About Francis & Anja Stileman

We stumbled across the village of Vejer in January 2000 and fell in love with the truly Spanish atmosphere and the wonderful weather. Where else in Europe can you lie on the beach in January?! Within a week we had bought our first property and we have been holidaying in the village several times a year ever since. We now have 3 properties, which you can see these on our website Having browsed our website, we hope you will decide to explore the area yourself and stay in one of our 3 properties, which we have lovingly restored. We are sure you won’t be disappointed.

We spent an absolutely fabulous week in this fantastic property. We loved Vejer and we were very happy to return to La Piconera after every trip. After renting houses Spain for several years, we can honestly say that no-one has taken as much trouble as the owner of this house in restoring with such taste while retaining character.

The house was spotlessly clean and everything has been thought of. The accommodation is very comfortable and very well equipped. There were more pots, pans and utensils in the kitchen than we could every use and we enjoyed cooking some lovely fish bought at the local market. We also appreciated the selection of books, playing cars, draughts and dominoes. The lounge is cosy, the bedrooms spacious but the highlight must be the terrace! The chairs are comfortable and we abandoned several planned outings in favour of relaxing in the sun on the terrace with a glass of wine and taking in the breathtaking views!

The beaches are spectecular and we had them all to ourselves! (El Palmar and Bolonia were our favourites). Vejer is a good central point from where to explore this part of Spain and we can recommend a trip to Seville, Cadiz and Tangiers. Vejer itself is a lovely little town, very Spanish and unspoilt and we had plenty of opportunity to practise our Spanish. There are some good restaurants (El Califa, El Convento, La Posada) very reasonably priced, all just a few minutes walk from the house. Also try La Taperia for tapas.

We were impressed with the very quick and efficient way the owner dealt with our enquiry. We were sent a map and clear instructions and had no trouble finding the house. We were met by the lovely Estrella, who lives next door and who made us feel very welcome. All in all a perfect holiday and we will certainly be back later this year.

La Piconera fantastisch

  • 5 of 5

Great value for money.

'I visited Vejer with my girlfriend and we had the most wonderful time. The house was extremely clean and comfortable with great interior and fully functioning kitchen and bathroom. It was easy to find from the airport (Gibraltar) and we hired a car and explored some of the fabulous beaches nearby. Vejer is a very quaint village with lots of fantastic bars and restaurants - perfect for couples or families. We had a brilliant time and would definitely go back. Great value for money!'

Perfect Location and Great Views

  • 4 of 5

La Piconera had everything we needed for our 10 day stay. The traditional apartment is well equipped and being so close to the town centre is perfectly situated for enjoying Vejer. We particularly liked having breakfast on the little terrace and also sitting out late at night after eating out at one Vejer's many restaurants. The terrace has great views over the town one way and a rural view for miles on the other. The apartment is on quite a steep hill so if you aren't very fit when you arrive, you will be when you leave! We hired a car and visited the beaches at El Palmar (fairly busy) and Canos de Meca (almost deserted). All in all it was a nice holiday mix of a lovely town with good bars and restaurants with easy access to beaches.

highly recommendable!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and me spent 5 nights in La Piconera in March 2011. We loved the place: very clean, well-equipped (several electrical heaters for chilly winter nights, washing machine, fully-equipped kitchen, extra duvets, towels), wonderful view from the roof terrace. Gives you an idea of how life is in these traditional townhouses. You feel like a true inhabitant of Vejer when staying there. Only a few steps and you are right in the centre of this little town. Free parking is very close. A good base for exploring the Costa de la Luz. And very reasonably priced as well.... Don't hesitate to book.

Unique holiday home

  • 5 of 5

What a cozy and beautiful hide-away amidst andalusian inhabitants! Vejer still is a "real" town with small shops of everything, barbers, butchers, etc. Tourists are the minority, and people treat us foreigners very friendly, especially when we try to speak Spanish...

Living among the Andalusians is not silent, because they love loud talking everywhere - but that is part of the characteristic life style.

"La Piconera" is small and needs good legs because of the many stairs, but the "reward" is the breathtaking view from the roofterrace. Here you have breakfast and dinner or a glass of wine at night.

The house is nicely renovated and decorated and extremely clean.

We enjoyed staying there and surely will return!

Nearest Airport
40 Kilometres
Car: recommended

Vejer is a white, hilltop town on the beautiful Atlantic coast of Andalucia. It is a magical place to explore with dozens of small tapas bars, narrow streets with patio pots overflowing with flowers. The beaches along this coast are amongst the best in Europe - huge stretches of golden sand that are - weekends aside - virtually deserted. The coast is dotted with small towns with bars and fish restaurants from where you can watch the wind- and kit-surfers. Surfboards and equipment can be rented near Tarifa, where you can also go horse riding. Lunch goes on forever.... this is a part of Spain where mass tourism is unknown, the pace of life is very slow. The stunning mountains of the Alcornacales National Park are nearby as is Europe's best known birdwatching area, Donana National Park. Golf at the Montenmedio Country Club is only 5 km away. Towns such as Medina Sidonia, Cadiz, Tarifa, Sevilla and Gibraltar are well worth visiting and there is a regular ferry service to Tangier in Morocco.
