Very poorly maintained property

  • 2 of 5

The size of the house was perfect for our family. However, our experience was not great. The property had a very moldy smell. Furniture, sheets, floors everything was damp from the get go. The floors were in fact so sticky and dirty. We rented the whole unit...water when turned on in the bathroom downstairs the bathrooms upstairs received no pressure. We literally had to wait in line to use the shower. The beds had plastic noisy protectors. Sleeping was very uncomfortable. Coffee filters were not provided and the coffee pot was very dirty. They had rules to take out trash. In all the rentals I have used, we were responsible to tie the trash and leave it on the porch or deck. Here we had to hike up the hill and dump the trash ourselves. The place was swampy and filled with insects. Not cool...we paid money to experience no luxury...We had to cut short our trip to a night sooner...very unpleasant experience.

Amazing view of the mountains spacious house but very dirty

  • 3 of 5

Chimney Rock is a very nice place to wake up to very calm and the mountains is a great view away from the city, No reception but it was great . We were a family of 11 rented the whole chalet . 3 floors with kitchen , sofa couch very spacious over all very satisfied except it was extremely dusty. Superficially clean but everyone in my family was dying of allergies when we laid on the couch, bed, etc.

Decent Mountain Chalet

  • 3 of 5

Stayed July 22nd -24th for a joint bachelor/bachelorette party. Upon arrival there is limited parking in front of the Chalet, enough for about 3 vehicles. Door code I received did not work so spent 45 minutes calling the owner who found out housekeeping changed the code. We did receive an earlier check in which was great. It was about 95 degrees out that day and when we finally got inside the place was incredibly warm. No AC units were on and it took about all day for the place to finally cool down. Not every room has an AC unit in them and the 2nd floor unit did not work that great so that room was almost unbearable to sleep in the 1st night.

Place was pretty clean except didn't look like they cleaned up any cobwebs or spiders. Ants kept getting worse as the weekend went on. Kitchen has a limited supply of pans/dishes to cook with but enough to get by. DVD player on 2nd floor had problems working and kept freezing up so gave up on that. Did not use the TVs besides that. Wifi worked great.

Beds were pretty comfortable and clean with towels in each room. You will need to buy extra toilet paper, paper towel, and trash bags. No instructions on what to do with trash but we found a dumpster up the hill to take care of everything to make sure no animals got into it.

Not much for views with plenty of other Chalets close by along with trees. Covered common area next to the Chalet has a gas grill that would not light.

Bars in the area close by 10 so this was kind of dissspointing.

The Chalet is a decent place to stay for a weekend if you are looking for something relatively inexpensive and as long as you book the entire thing.

Not worth the price!

  • 1 of 5

We stayed in this cabin for only 2 nights so we could get ready for our wedding and explore Chimney Rock, let me tell you we had the worst time ever. First off the TV (yes there is only one TV for the top 2 floors) would not work we followed the instructions which are 2 pages long trying to get it work so that the kids could be entertained while I finished doing the all the girls hair and makeup, the housekeeper finally came by and got it working on our 2nd day there but she left the door unlocked with our valuables inside the cabin.

Secondly don't set a drink down anywhere in the cabin unless you intend on drinking ants because it didn't matter where we put our cups within minutes there would be a trail of ants to them (rain or shine) we were told they were trying to get out of the rain??

Lastly, when it did rain there was water pouring in through the bookcases and ceiling onto the bottom of the staircase.

The owners were contacted over all these issues and only offered excuses as to why each one was happening, there is no outside furniture for you to sit on and enjoy the beautiful view the cabin does offer unless you want to walk down 16 steps the back up 8 more to the covered deck beside the cabin and them you can enjoy the view because it is covered!!!! I tried renting the cabin right in front of this one because it was cheaper per night and had 2 hot tubs patio furniture and its on grill outside, but unfortunately it was already rented for our dates so I settled for this one. We will not be coming back to this cabin for our future anniversaries that is for sure.

Owner's Response: While we absolutely value guest reviews, in this case we strongly feel that the reviewer has unfortunately negatively amplified issues and not taken into consideration all the assistance that was provided to take care of the issues. To start, the chalet booking clearly states that the booking is based on the number of people, and while the booking was made for 8 guests, a total of 11 guests came in. When the housekeeper questioned this, she was not given any answer and instead was asked for extra bedsheets and towels to accommodate the extra people. The guests had come in with 2 airbeds that they squeezed in the living room and a bedroom upstairs. Ideally, she would have had to book the entire chalet and not just one unit. Then the guests would have access to 2 TVs and not one. Regarding the TV, if you are familiar with DISH network, you will never have problems with the system at the chalet. The guest was having trouble using the remote and following simple instructions. She did get it on the first night, but then started having issues again the following morning. Numerous emails (via VRBO portal) will demonstrate that we tried our very best to make her understand how to work the remote. We also made numerous phone calls, and tried to do the same. Finally, we asked the housekeeper to route a special trip to turn on the TV to make sure the guest is satisfied. It took her less than a minute to get it working and we also asked her to leave it on so the guest would not have any issues. Many unnecessary buttons had been pressed which led to this situation. After that we did not hear from the guest. The heavy downpour on one of the nights led to a minor leak via the chimney, (based on the pictures that we had asked the guest to send) and this issue has been taken care of since. This is a chalet in the mountains and some piss ants inadvertently entered the house. Our Welcome letter, which is sent to guests prior to their arrival, clearly states that guests may occasionally encounter bugs and insects in spite of the regular insecticide treatment that the cleaning crew provides on a regular basis. Please keep in mind that overall the chalet is always cleaned right before the guests come in. An exterminator has since taken care of the issue. It is unfortunate that the guest states that they did not have a good stay. We have documented evidence that we did our best to make her comfortable. At this point we are waiting for payment that the guest owes us.
