Overview

About the property

6 bedrooms (sleeps 11)

A spacious luxury trullo property that is unique to this region of Italy. This is a character property with trulli cones, vaulted ceilings, stone walls and stone and marble floors. The property is well designed, retaining all the character of the traditional trullo whilst offering very spacious and flexible accommodation spread across 2 wings. The layout offers a rare opportunity to benefit from some independent living with additional cooking/bathroom facilties and relaxation areas or indeed enables smaller parties to spread out and enjoy the luxury of more space. We are set up for families with babies making this a popular choice for young families. The trullo has a large private heated pool, a poolside gazebo and comfortable high quality sunbeds, all set in an enclosed garden in an elevated position. The property has both covered and open patio areas on both the south and east aspects for alfresco dining with high quality stone/aluminium garden furniture. The games room offers good entertainment to both children and adults alike and we have bikes available for guest use (x2 adult bikes and x2 11-14yrs approx. age) we can also arrange additional bike hire. We also have set up for guests access to a range of services including tours, pasta cooking evenings, and inhouse dining with a local chef preparing and serving a wonderful Puglian dinner in the comfort of the trullo. There is reliable wireless internet that is accessible throughout the property and also outside.

The setting of the trullo is what makes this property stand out from the many being advertised. It is accessed from beautiful country lanes (ideal for walking and cycling) It's set in its' own grounds on a hill surrounded by olive, cherry and almond trees with the most fabulous uninterrupted and panoramic views across the countryside to the Val D'Itria. The views are stunning by both day and night. It is just so peaceful - no traffic or aircraft noise at all. The only thing you will hear is the sound of hens, sheep and occasional dogs barking. The large roof top area is a great place to watch the sun go down and for star gazers it truly is a paradise with little light pollution to get in the way. The property is secluded but not isolated. The closest neighbour is situated nearby at the end of the drive who are typical elderly Italian farmers who are very kind but keep to themselves but they do not overlook the property in any way. Other neighbouring properties are dotted around on the approach but not visible from this wonderful property. If you are looking for privacy, seclusion but within easy distance of the unique and wonderful town of Alberobello then this will suit you perfectly.

Getting to Trulli Sulla Collina: Bari and Brindisi airports are conveniently located, both within an hour from the villa. There are regular flights into both airports from the North and the South of the UK. If you fancy stopping off via Rome or Milan there are cheap connecting flights from both down to both Bari and Brindisi. Alternatively there is a good train service to Bari from Rome. Another route is via Naples with an easy 3 hour (approx.) drive. Car hire is essential. (Google Earth Grid Ref. N 40° 45.156 E 017°14.215).

Family Entertainment: Knowing how important it is to have varied entertainment Sulla Colina offers guests access to a separate games room a great refuge for teenagers, with darts, table tennis, table football, giant connect 4. In addition we provide 2 flat screen TV's and DVD's, with a good size and varied selection of films to suit all ages, library books and board games are also available. Being music lovers ourselves we have invested in good quality music systems in both wings - in one wing we have a SONAS streamer and in the other we have facilities to connect wirelessly through an amp. We have a couple of small trikes for toddlers as well as pool inflatables and beach toys. We also provide bikes for guest use as this is a truly wonderful region to explore and very safe with minimal cars on the surrounding country lanes near the property.

Internet Access: The property offers wireless internet access

Activities , we are happy to arrange some special activities for you to increase the enjoyment of your stay e.g. Cookery lessons in pizza/pasta making, a Puglian chef to prepare and serve you in the trullo, help with car hire or indeed sporting activities on the coast. On booking we will pass your details onto our guest services team who will be able to support you in ensuring you get the most from your holiday.

The wings are configured as follows:

1. East Wing - this has its' own entrance off the south facing patio and is the traditional trullo wing, with beautiful cream stone trullo cones, in the main living area (snug) that add great character to the property. There is a main seating area in the large cone where the music system, TV etc are set up. There are in addition 2 smaller cones - one set up like a small office area, with desk, the other as a quiet relaxation area with easy chairs. A central fireplace separates this room from the dining room and kitchen area. Off this room are 2 large bedrooms (one set up as a double, the other as a twin) and 2 bathrooms with showers. There is a back door onto the east facing covered eating area and patio. Cream stone floors throughout with good quality (antique and modern) furnishings and very comfortable beds with white cotton bedding. The kitchen in here is small but well equipped with its' own oven, hob, fridge, freezer and dishwasher.

2. West Wing - this has its' own entrance off the south facing patio and is the larger wing and is a traditional style Italian building with tall ceilings, stone and marble floors. The main room is an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge. The kitchen is well equipped with its' own oven, hob, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. A breakfast bar offers a nice area for preparing food and for socialising whilst you cook. There is a dining area opposite with an extendable table and then a comfortable seating area with sofas and TV. The 4 bedrooms are accessed through a door (which does mean you are able to close off the bedrooms if you have young children from any noise happening in the living area) off this room and are situated along a corridor along with 2 bathrooms with showers. There are 2 good size double rooms with large double beds, a twin room and a single room. All bedrooms in both wings have mosquito nets and portable fans.

The grounds are extensive and completely surround the property on all sides. The wider grounds are planted with olive, cherry and almond trees and left in their natural state, the grass just being kept cut. The grounds closer to the property have been landscaped and planted with shrubs and trees. The pool area is separate and is another landscaped area that has been enclosed with stone walling, railings and is gated. The gate can be locked using a combination padlock that we leave available for guests. The pool is heated and retains a good temperature for swimming even in the off peak weeks, there is also a cover for the pool so when the nights are cooler this cover retains the heat overnight. The pool is open from April to end October.

There are many choices of seating area all having differing aspects. The south facing patio has a covered eating area and a large in situ marble table and chairs with a further extension of the patio that is under Italian oak trees that offer natural shade. Both wings have direct access onto this patio. There is an east facing patio again with covered seating area, set up with a good size round aluminium table and chairs and extends beyond the covered area for sunbathing etc

There is extensive patio area for seating surrounding the pool area as well as a covered gazebo to offer poolside shaded relaxation/ dining as an option.

There is external lighting in all these areas that is time controlled so will come on automatically together with pool lights.

Finally there is an extensive roof terrace that is accessed through a locked gate at the rear of the property with a flight of stone steps that accesses onto the whole roof area. There is a light that lights up the steps but the roof terrace is unlit so as to benefit from the amazing vista of stars. It's a great place to sit on the low walls and take in the views at sunset.

About Jenny Turner

I am married with 3 children, 2 grown up girls of 25 and 22 and a son of 15. I used to run my own business that focused on supporting organisations to develop excellence in customer service - something I am passionate about. This focus on a positive service experience is at the heart of what I look to achieve for our guests. I know myself how I want to be treated and I look to ensure our guests get a really positive and memorable experience when they choose to holiday in our villa.

Jenny Turner purchased this villa in 2004

Why Jenny Turner chose Martina Franca

We fell in love initially with the position of this property with its truely stunning views across rolling hills. Compared to the many others we looked at this was the one that stood out from the crowd. We have not been disappointed. The views during both day and night are spectacular - it really offers peace and tranquility and yet is only 5 minutes drive from Alberobello. The other attraction as well as being a trullo that exudes character, was its' unique layout being in 2 wings. We love to holiday with friends but also value a degree of privacy and independence at times which this offers. The icing on the cake is the close proximity to Alberobello, a thriving and totally unique town with a wonderful atmosphere and many good quality restaurants where we love to try the local wines and thoroughly enjoy all the wonderful italian culinary delights.

What makes this villa unique

The Layout - we can offer something a little different for the more discerning guests that want the enjoyment of holidaying with other family or friends but also wish to have some personal space and privacy.

The stunning views afforded to you as you sit by the heated pool relaxing in the peace of the countryside

A pool that is enclosed offering greater peace of mind when travelling with young children

A management team that share my vision of providing a truly memorable experience for our guests and go above and beyond in meeting requests for various leisure pursuits - whether it be pizza making lessons, a private chef or for the more active Segway tours, cycling, golf or sailing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time at your villa in Puglia. We stayed there with our whole family (9 persons). The rooms were all very well equipped and the garden and the terrace were beautiful. The best thing for our three little children (3, 3, and 6 years old) was the swimming pool. They spent so much time in the water, swimming or playing with the little plastic boat.

The landscape around your villa is very beautiful. We liked the "Trulli" and the pretty little towns, Alberobello, Martina Franca, Ostuni and most of all Locorotondo. We had our meals either on the terrace or at the restaurants in Alberobello which were very good. Our favorite was the very friendly restaurant "Fidelio".

We were also very pleased with the agent in Puglia, especially as we arrived nearly two hours late (problems with the flight). The supermarket was closed and our grandchildren were too tired to have a meal in a restaurant. So the agent led us to a place where we could order pizzas to take away and he waited with us until the pizzas were ready.

We all are very sure that we will come back to your wonderful place!

The property is situated within 3 acres of olive and almond grove in a hill top position in rural countryside but within 5 minutes of Alberobello. The approach to the property is down very pretty, quiet stone walled lanes, ideal for walking and cycling. It's position offers some of the most fantastic views across the Val D'Itria and being in this position the property benefits from a cooling breeze during the hot summer months. The nearest town Alberobello which is a UNESCO heritage site and a unique and fascinating place to explore with its' thousands of trulli. Restaurants and coffee bars are plentiful, good quality and very friendly, being full of character, many being trulli buildings. There are many small shops to explore - ranging from good quality clothes shops through to traditional bakers, butchers etc There are large and well stocked supermarkets on the outskirts of the main historic centre and about 5 minutes from the property. These stock branded goods as well as having excellent delicatessen counters for wonderfully fresh Parma ham, olives, sun dried. Tomatoes, cheeses etc etc

The Thursday market in Alberobello is a must, the array of fresh fruit and vegetables is fantastic and the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of how the locals live is a real cultural experience.

We also can help advise and organise some local experiences - including a pasta making evening with a very skilled local lady who will teach you how to make Orrichette (the local pasta in the shape of little ears) and include this in a wonderful local meal all prepared and dished up for you. We also can arrange for a local Puglian chef to come to the villa and cook for you. We have bikes at the villa for your use, but should you need more bikes or local car hire again we can help. (We do have 2 adult bikes and 2 teen bikes available for guest use)

Notes:
The fabulous 10 x 5m heated tiled pool is a feature of the property that is set in an enclosed walled landscaped garden in an elevated position with stunning views across the Val D'Itria (Open from end April to end Oct subject to weather). The pool has been enclosed sympathetically to retain the character and views, but does provide a greater degree of security and safety for families with young children, with its stone walls and pretty iron fencing with lockable gate. The pool is equipped with 10 aluminium sunbeds and benefits from a pergola providing permanent shade with an aluminium table and 4 chairs. The pool is cleaned regularly throughout your stay to ensure your maximum enjoyment. The villa has 2 patios, both with covered and open areas. The south facing patio is large with a stone table and seating for 10. The east facing patio has a large aluminum circular table with seating for 6. Large parking area with shade at the rear of the property. A large BBQ is available.

A wonderful villa for a perfect family holiday.

  • 5 of 5

We spend two weeks in the amazing villa , Trulli Sulla Colina, near Alberobello. We are a Dutch extended family of 3 generations, 12 people, 6 adults and 6 children, age 8, 6, 5 ,4, 3, and 1 year. We felt at home.

The house was clean, toys for all the kids, good beds and soft towels.

It was comfortable having two very complete kitchens to cook for a big family. We ate very often altogehter at "home".

The first week the weather was not that good, so the pool was cold. The second week the sun came and the solar heating did her work well. We could all relax. A top priority was to have a safe place for all the young children, - the fence off lockable swimming pool area, with its non slip pool surround.

Thanks Jenny for your good service. We would like to recommend Trulli Sulla Cortina to all our Dutch friends and relatives.

Owner's Response: So delighted you had such a good time. We so want for our guests to feel at home and do try and focus on all the details that make the difference around both comfort and safety. We always have found that the 2 wings with the 2 kitchens etc is a real bonus for large families as you have all the benefits of communal living but with the room to spread out and achieve some independence too. Glad you enjoyed the heated pool. Hope to see you with your friends and relatives for a return visit. Jenny

Enjoyable two weeks in Puglia Trullo

  • 5 of 5

The Trullo House was completely equipped, easily adopted to eight person group. Surroundings with fig, olive and chess nut trees were charming. It's was nice to return there from our daily trips to other Pugliese towns.

The personnel responded very well and quickly to some abrupt problems like missing of tap water one morning. The heating problem of the few first days was handled promptly as well.

The driving instruction from the Autostradale to Alberobello meeting point was not exact enough, it's even misleading. Also the hiking maps (in house files) for Trullo surroundings could have been more accurate. However, we enjoyed in walking twice longer routes in pastoral environments in sunny weather.

Early October seems to be still warm enough in this area for outdoor activities and even for swimming in the sea.

We can strongly recommend this property to all kinds of groups from families with children to groups of senior citizens, like us who look for good food, excellent wines and cultural objects.

Wonderful villa in great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 weeks and cannot recommend this villa highly enough. The property layout is excellent it's 2 wings offering some independent living amongst a family group but with many communal areas both in and outside where we could all be together. The setting is truely beautiful and the photos do not do justice to the stunning views and the peace and tranquility of this amazing villa.

The property was immaculately clean and very well presented. Beds super comfortable and nice touches with fixtures and fittings. Games room, bikes, heated pool and the pasta making evening (which was outstanding) all added to our experience. Both the owner and local team were very helpful and we had the best holiday. We will be back next year.

Wonderful Italian Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The property is ' trulli' gorgeous. Incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Everything you could possibly need has been placed at your disposal. Easy drive into Alberobello and surrounding towns. The tour guide provided by the owners was immensely useful, we sampled all the recommended restaurants. Would love to return again.

Tranquil and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Ideal location to relax in seclusion whilst being close enough to Alberobello to be convenient for restaurants, local entertainment, supermarkets and the historical culture of the area.

The property is exceptionally well maintained with plenty of outdoor options for eating and chilling. The pool's hill top location provides outstanding views and a welcome afternoon breeze.

If you take time to walk or cycle (using the bikes provided by the owner) in the surrounding countryside you will not be disappointed. The locals will always talk to you and on one occasion, we were given local produce to bring back with us, freshly picked by a farmer.

With an hours drive, Martina Franca, Locorotundo and Ostuni and the Adriatic beaches are well worth a visit. Try and time the Ostuni visit with the antiques market.

We will be back! Thanks

A lovely hideaway in the hills above Alberobello

  • 5 of 5

The gardens and setting of this villa are outstanding. The property is set on the top of a hill with fantastic views of olive groves in every directions. In the early evening light it looks like a painting. We spent a very lazy two weeks with grown up children and their friends lounging around the pool. All the outside space is excellent, particularly the covered terrace, and the sitting room worked well for Italian themed movie evenings, following cocktails on the roof, with the lovely views of the sunset.

The beds are very comfortable and the whole property is very well maintained. The games room is a really nice addition, especially as the wifi is not the strongest/fastest. Puglia Arrivals were fantastic, and very responsive. We loved the dog at the end of the drive and he hung out with us. Lido Sabbiadoro at Capitolo Monopoli is a really wonderful beach, 20 euros a day pp for sun loungers, umbrellas, showers and a very nice bar. Absolutely worth the money. Also we had two fantastic meals at Il Quercia in its new location in Alberobello. The only drawback at the house is the size of the kitchens when cooking for a big party, but both are well stocked.

Alberobello is a 5 minute drive, and perfect for drinks, shopping and poddling around. We were warned that it would be 'very touristy', but even in late July it's quiet compared with Tuscany or the Amalfi Coast. We also visited nearby towns of Martina Franca, Locorotondo and Cisternino - all perfect for a late afternoon stroll. All in all we loved our stay and would strongly recommend the villa for a mixed age group.
