Beautiful Apartment near beach and all facilities in Flic en Flac Mauritius

Overview

Property

Updated: 21-Nov-2016
2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin), 2 bathrooms sleeping 6 people (plus 1 baby)

Air-conditioned ground-floor apartment featuring open plan living and dining area and a newly fitted, modern, well-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar (microwave, oven, hob, kettle, toaster, fridge-freezer, washing machine, place settings for six, cooking utensils, iron and ironing board all provided). The living area benefits from satellite television. Sheets and towels are also provided for our guests.

Our apartment is situated on a small upmarket complex of 36 apartments in Flic en Flac on the sunny West coast of Mauritius. The complex benefits from 2 swimming pools (one of which is only a few paces from the front door!), one with a children's pool. It is only a 5 minute walk from the renowned Flic en Flac beach as well as all local facilities including supermarkets, banks, pharmacy, taxi rank and a selection of restaurants. The complex has 24 hour security and there is a secure parking place available.

Local Facilties: Flic en Flac has everything required for a relaxing beach holiday. Within a 5 minute walk of the apartment, there is a supermarket which provides fresh bread each morning as well as all requirements for a self-catering holiday. There is also a small shopping centre with shops selling beachwear and souvenirs, a pharmacy and a cashpoint. Also within 5 minutes are a number of good local restaurants including Chinese, Italian and local cuisine, as well as bars and the casino. Life in Mauritius is inexpensive (provided you stay out of the big hotels!!!) and a three course meal for two with drinks will cost approximately £10 - £12. Many of the restaurants offer a takeaway service should you fancy a quiet evening in the apartment!!

Flic en Flac beach is one of the best on the island and only 5 minutes from the apartment. Its fine white sand stretches for several miles and the beach slopes gently into the sea making it ideal for children.

Local Excursions: Close to Flic-en-Flac are several interesting excursions:

Quatre Bournes market: Quatre Bournes is located 20 minutes inland from Flic en Flac by local bus service (bus stop 300 metres from the apartment) or taxi. Thurs/ Sun are best for clothes/souvenirs and Wed / Sat for vegetables / local produce. Markets offer a wonderful opportunity to see local life and to buy good value local crafts, but do remember to barter!! Quatre Bournes also has a shopping centre (Orchard) next to the market.

Casela: Casela is only 10 minutes from Flic-en-Flac and is a must for families. There is a small zoo with local wildlife, a safari ride and you can fish for little tilapia fish which the children love. Located on a hillside, the views from the restaurant are spectacular and the food is excellent and inexpensive.

Exploring further afield is worthwhile. Coach trips can be arranged through the tourist office or a taxi hired for a full or half day. Car hire is also easily arranged.

Holidaying in Mauritius - yes, it is affordable!!: A holiday in our apartment makes Mauritius affordable. Air Fares are £500 - £600 through much of the year, rising up to £800 in peak Christmas and school summer holiday periods. However, the cost of living in Mauritius is less than half what it is in Europe so your spending money will go so much further.......Mauritius with its uncrowded beaches of fine white sand, warm clear waters, friendly people, staying in a spacious 2 bed air conditioned apartment with swimming pools and tennis court costs little more than a holiday in Europe, especially for those impacted by the fall of the pound.

Our apartment is also an excellent, affordable option for either honeymooners or people wishing to attend weddings in Mauritius, particularly those taking place in the West Coast hotels which are around 5 minutes away by taxi (we can arrange taxi transfers to hotels across the island if required). We can comfortably accommodate up to six people.

A great base for our holiday

  • 4 of 5

This spacious apartment turned out to be an excellent base for our stay in Mauritius this summer. There were four of us but it would sleep 6 at a pinch, although two would have to sleep on a sofa bed in the lounge. We were met at the airport by a member of the owners' family, shown the facilities and made to feel very welcome. The property is accurately described; the kitchen is fully equipped with a four-ring gas hob, large fridge and microwave oven. There is a washing machine ... though it was on its last legs when we stayed and satellite TV (always one English channel available, plus a lot of Premiership football with French commentary!) The pool was being serviced during our stay but we were able to swim in an adjacent complex. Within five minutes' walk there is a reasonably large supermarket (Spar), the beach, two Internet cafes, numerous restaurants and bars, a doctor (which we needed as my daughter got tonsilitis while we were there), a casino, and lots of shops (with hideously inflated prices aimed at tourists). We ate at (and would recommend) Chez Pepe - an Italian restaurant about 1 km along the seafront and Domaine Anna (about 4 km away on the road into Flic en Flac - but this is quite expensive). We didn't do any of the many tours on offer as we have friends on the island who were our guides. A taxi onto the central plateau (Quatre Bornes, Phoenix) cost us 400 rupees (about £9.00) - the same bus journey was less than 100 rupees (about £2.20) for all four of us. DO: visit the Crocodile Park to ride on the giant tortoises; go to Blue Bay and go out onto the reef in a glass bottomed boat (both cost 1000 rupees - about £22.00). DON'T: pay inflated prices for souvenirs.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Mauritius International Airport at 45 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : at 300 Metres Nearest Restaurant : at 200 Metres Nearest Beach : at 100 Metres Car: not necessary

Our apartment is situated in the small resort of Flic en Flac on the West Coast of Mauritius. The beach is only a 5 minute walk from the property and is a long stretch of fine white sand backed by shady filao trees which slopes gently into the warm Indian Ocean. The sunsets are particularly beautiful from Flic en Flac Beach. Within Flic en Flac are all requirements for a self catering holiday (shops, restaurants, taxi rank, pharmacy, bank). Many activities can be arranged locally including trips to points of interest across the island. Of particularly interest are trips to see the dolphins in neighbouring Tamarin Bay, visits to the Hindu Holy Site of Grand Bassin in the Southern Mountains, trips to Casela Park which is a zoo with examples of local Mauritian wildlife (and some animals from further afield!!) and lots of activities for children and the unforgettable Ile aux Cerfs on the East Coast. Car hire can also be arranged for those preferring to explore themselves!!

Other Activities: zoo, quad biking, local markets, traditional Mauritian folklore evenings (sega dancing)
