About this property

Oceanfront suite. stunning views, magnificant gardens , a tranquil retreat

The suite is located in our primary residence. It has a fully separate entrance. We are following all BC Health suggestions and recommendation for cleaning and sanitizing between guests. Please note that we will be leaving a minimum of 24 hrs between all guests

Chimera is something so fabulous it cant really exist. But it does here in Victoria. A quiet retreat from the pressures of life, a place to be close to nature, tranquil and unhurried , it is situated on a point of land reaching out into Esquimalt harbour on an estate that has to be seen to be believed. Nestled off a spacious deck at the waters edge is a 2 bedroom suite with private entrance . The suite is the lower floor of a large house and is a walk out suite with lots of windows and natural light. . The newly renovated kitchen provides everything you need to enjoy local produce and the comfortable light and spacious living/dining makes life easy. The bedrooms are provided with fine linen and plenty of storage and offer one queen sized bed in bedroom 1 and a queen sized bed and one twin bed in bedroom 2. The sofa opens out to provide more sleeping accommodation with a large queen sized bed. The 2 bathrooms (one ensuite the other a 2 way bathroom offering ensuite from Bedroom 2) are well appointed with luxury soaps and supplies, shower, vanity and toilet. There is an in suite laundry with washer and dryer.

The large deck reaches out from the suite to the water and provides a wonderful place to sit and soak up the sun. There is a barbeque and dining facilities on the deck. To one side is our 84 ft private dock so if you want to arrive by boat ask us about moorage or bring your kayaks ( or use our 2 sit upon kayaks or large inflatable boat- life jackets provided) and use the dock to launch and explore the waters around Cole Island, a 1857 Royal Navy building, originally for storing ammunition. The soft pink bricks of the old building glow in the sun and provide many photo opportunities.

Enjoy the local wildlife, magnificent blue herons, mink, otters, seals, swans, geese and eagles. Go crab fishing off the dock. On the other side of the property is Tovey Cove a small secluded beach with a access a few minutes walk away. The shallow water means that it warms quickly. Esquimalt Harbour is a busy working harbour and there is always something to see, with boats going in and out , canoes, kayaks, paddleboarders, divers and fishermen.
View Royal is a small community within 15 minutes of downtown and has a large supermarket, medical facilities, liquor stores and restaurants. Victoria General Hospital is a few minutes away. The Galloping Goose is a wonderful bike and hiking trail which goes from downtown Victoria , through View Royal and onto Metchosin, and Sooke . It is 60 kms long and you can get onto it within about 2 kms from the house. Bring your bikes. Thetis Lake is a wonderful hiking trail and great place for a walk It is only 1.5 kms away.

What a view!
Excellent communication with Jean both prior to arrival and during our stay. She met us on arrival and provided us with really useful information on area and property. The property itself is perfectly located and met our needs. Difficult to find negatives but a recommendation from us would be a simple whitewash colour scheme interior may turn this into the stunner to match the surroundings. The view from the deck is to die for! Several secluded coves and use of property kayaks/ canoe. Brilliantly located just 15 minutes from central Victoria.

Beautiful
A lovely property with beautiful views over the bay, lovely gardens, decking and seating areas. Jean was very welcoming and helpful. The property was a good size for four adults. A lovely stay with Bryan and Luna the dogs popping in to visit. Thank you Jean

Amazing Location, wonderful views
This was an amazing apartment in a very special location. The apartment was large and clean with comfy beds and excellent showers. The use of the canoe and kayaks was great - there was a little island to paddle around and explore. Jean was a perfect host, making sure we had everyhing we needed, but also giving us space to enjoy the place. Overall, an exceptional holiday apartment, with beautiful views, and outdoor seating to enjoy from every angle.

Fabulous Position
We stayed at the property for 3 days as part of a family trip involving my husband, myself and our 2 sons of 18 and 22. It has a lovely position on the water, with convenient access to Victoria by car whilst being far enough out to be peaceful. The owner was very welcoming, but respected our privacy during the stay. The accommodation itself was good, although possibly more suited to a slightly younger family than ours, due to what seemed to be narrower than average single beds in the second bedroom. The kayaks and dinghy available for our use were an added bonus. We felt that the provision of some form of heating/ lighting on the front of the deck overlooking the water would be beneficial as this is an appealing place to sit in the evening and take in the view.

About the host

Hosted by Jean McKay

Host profile image
Jean McKay has lived in Victoria for 28 years after spending time in UK and Australia. After traveling the world and seeing many wonderful places she chose to make Victoria her home.

Why they chose this property

Jean fell in love with the property the moment she first set foot on it almost 10 years ago. Over the past 10 years she has completely rebuilt and renovated the old house . Jean feels that she has a responsibility to take care of and protect the grounds with their old stately arbutus trees for future generations. She is privileged to get to live here but never takes it for granted.

What makes this property unique

Sitting on the porch, gazing through the graceful twisted trunks of aged arbutus trees, watching the sparkling water and the light shining in from all sides. Watch to see how many seal creatures and birds you can spot. Did you see the seals, otters, mink, raccoons, blue heron, eagles ? Enjoy the spectacular gardens and views showcasing the Olympic Mountains and breathing in all that fabulous fresh air bring a sense of peace and oneness with the natural world. Come here for a holiday and find a world you may have forgotten still exists.
