About Sarah Flint

Although I'm busy in Toronto raising two young children, my favourite in the whole wide world is sitting on the back deck of our cabin in the Kootenays, enjoying a campfire, glass of wine and gazing at stars.

Sarah Flint purchased this house in 2009

Why Sarah Flint chose Central Kootenay H

'The Kootenays are one of the last great places in all of North America. It is the safest, least touched, cheapest, most visually dramatic recreation area left.'

- Andy Cohen, BC Division of Resorts of the Canadian Rockies

Excellent stay!!

  • 5 of 5

House was perfect. Well laid out and well supplied. Very clean. A/C is an added bonus!! Easy check in and check out. Tremendous views. Directions to rental worked perfectly. Do not be concerned about taking a regular car on the road .... it is not a problem.

As pointed out, the path to the water requires some effort but it is well worth it. The dock is a great place to hang out. You can kayak in peace all day .... hardly any other boats on the lake. The water is crystal clear. FYI - there is no beach and the water is deep right off the dock. Utilize the provided life jackets if required. Make sure to check out the waterfall.

Cell and data service at the house can be spotty but you aren't going to need it with all the scenery and amenities. It is a 10 min drive to Silverton to if you need a data fix.

I came from the north. House is about 90 minutes from the ferry.

Note that the closest gas station in New Denver closes at 6.

Book this place with confidence ..... just not when I want to stay there again ;)

Beautiful and enjoable stay for a family of 5.

A stunning view of Slocan Lake. Very lovely modern cabin with all you need for your stay. We made great use of the kayaks and paddle boards that are available to the guests. Do bring good footwear to make the treck to and from lake. We certainly will come again.

Amazing cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Valhalla View. Not only is the view breathtaking, but the cabin is secluded, luxurious and spotless. In order to get such a great view, the cabin is situated high above the lake. This makes the trip down to the lake a bit long, but you're rewarded by a gorgeous and clean glacier fed lake. There are kayaks to use and we loved just jumping off the dock into the water. The hike back up to the cabin can be tiring, especially after a few hours of exercise on the lake. I noticed that a few of the permanent owners had quads to go up and down. We planned on seeing more of the local area, but the cabin and lake were so relaxing that we didn't leave the property enough. Overall, we loved our stay and hope to return next summer.

Sophisticated Cabin Overlooking Tranquil Lake

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is definitely well decorated, yet still has the rustic feel that we wanted. The kitchen looks like it came from a Home magazine, stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, warming oven, wine refrigerator, blender, coffee bean grinder, you name it and it was there! The washer and dryer came in handy also. The view from the living room and dining room was breathtaking! The satellite tvs, worked well, In the evenings the outdoor deck/ balcony was very cozy and we enjoyed the outdoor gas Bbq and fireplace. The owners paid attention to details here, there were binders with maps and local activities, umbrellas, flashlights, etc.

This place is beautiful, I almost feel bad about writing anything negative. You do need a rugged vehicle to manouvre the access road, and there is a short steep incline walking up to the cabin. The walk down to the beach takes 15 min to half an hour. It is EXTREMELY steep and I would not recommend this for children under 12, or over 50, or for anyone physically impaired. I am in my 50s and I could not make it all the way down. Thankfully a nice man came with an ATV to get me back up the hill. At the bottom there is a dock that you can jump off and swim. I would say that even though the cabin wasn't water accessible for us, this did not take away from our trip at all. There are lots of free, beautiful beaches in the nearby towns that children or older adults could easily use.

We had an activity filled week, visiting attractions in the area. We loved this cabin and we were happy with our choice.
