We were scheduled to stay at this property starting Tuesday, Jan. 1st to Jan. 31st.
Upon arrival, we noticed a musty smell. The floors were dirty. There was roach gel on top of the fry pans, along with a dirty dustpan. The bathroom cabinets were filled with the owner’s private belongings, as was the bedroom. We pulled the covers off the mattress. It had dried blood stains, other yellowish stains, and blood trails along the edge of the mattress. The mattress in the second bedroom was worse than the first bedroom. We decided to sleep in our vehicle that first night and thought we’d reevaluate the next day. In the morning, we knew we could not stay here. We saw insects on the mattress and on the floor. We contacted VRBO. They said they would contact the owner and we should come back at 4pm. Upon return, we saw that nothing had been cleaned. The owner did respond in the evening and said she was bringing a new mattress and said that the earliest she could get there to clean the property was FRIDAY. We asked VRBO what we should do in the meantime. Who would pay our expenses until the unit was fumigated for bugs and professionally cleaned? There was no answer. We were told the owner did offer to bring a new mattress that night, but we were afraid that we might contaminate our own luggage and belongings with bugs if we stayed there. We do not know if she ever brought a second mattress! We took photos and send them to VRBO. Don't be FOOLED.
