About the property

5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 8 - 11

This large secluded Victorian house has breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside towards Rye. Inside rooms are light and airy. The property has just undergone a total restoration and refurbishment. Period features have been lovingly restored and the ambiance of the family home maintained. The house is surrounded by three quarters of an acre of enclosed gardens and in addition there is a fenced, hard tennis court. The south facing brick paved terrace is a gorgeous suntrap with lots of flexible seating. The driveway provides parking for at least four cars.

A welcome hamper is provided for each booking.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had at The Highlands. My elderly parents particularly enjoyed it as they were able to access everything easily having the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. The house was comfortable and family friendly and we were lucky to have good weather and take advantage of the use of the tennis courts and the lovely sheltered garden. We would definitely consider returning to this property and have already recommended it to several friends.

Thank you

Beautiful house in Rye

  • 5 of 5

Ideal property for a family break. The house was lovely with plenty of character, and situated in a quiet road. There were 3 generations of us with 2 dogs. Plenty of room and everyone loved the Jacuzzi. We all enjoyed playing tennis on our own court! We didn't get a chance to use the garden much, as we were only there for a weekend, but it's a great space for barbecues and the dogs loved the space to run around. Will definitely return, hopefully for a week next time.

Relaxing, quiet, fully equiped in a good location to access many attractions.

  • 5 of 5

The house lacked nothing in both the kitchen and the other parts. Good to have a tennis court although not much real tennis was played. Centrally located to access Kent and Sussex attractions. We went out every day as the weather was so good (no rain). Useful having a shop in the village and the supermarket in Peasmarsh (a few miles away) has almost everything. We have visited the area many times before (parents lived on the East Sussex coast) and we had a wonderful time visiting it again from our base in Iden.

The Highlands

Great property for a family get together. Very homely and well stocked. Plenty to keep the children amused. We loved the tennis court and the jacuzzi!. The local pub serves great food and is within walking distance. A great success..thank you.

A lovely house in an idealic location

  • 5 of 5

'The Highlands' was absolutely perfect for our weekend family break. Eleven of us (aged from 9 months to 68!) enjoyed the generous accommodation and the views of the surrounding countryside. The facilities were excellent and ensured our stay was like a real home from home. The children enjoyed running around in the garden and the Mums and Dads enjoyed playing tennis on the full-size tennis court. The local pub, which is within walking distance, serves great food and has a fine selection of beers. The charming town of Rye is about a ten minute drive away. We therefore have no hesitation in recommending this property. The Jolly family.

lovely characterful property

  • 5 of 5

The house was furnished in an appropriate style. Chairs and beds were comfortable and of good quality as was the garden furniture. The bike was a bonus. We played tennis and croquet to the accompaniment of a pair of stoats who were much less interested in us than vice versa. The kitchen equipment was plentiful but slightly eclectic - we couldn't find a fish slice. The jaccuzzi was a winner. The pub and shop were a short stroll away and the food was good. We had five cars and easily got them all on the drive. The only thing to be aware of is that the lounge isn't huge but fine for the 9 adults we had in out party. A great place for a family reunion.

Absolutely lovely.

  • 5 of 5

The house was lovely, and had a wonderfully warm and welcoming feel to it. We had 11 of use staying in the house, and we could all fit round the huge table in the dining room to eat together. The kitchen is nicely stocked with pans big enough to cope with the dinners that we cooked together. There were also a number of china serving dishes, etc, which added to the experience. It felt like this was a family home that we were borrowing for a week!

The garden and tennis court were well maintained, and everything in the house was beautifully clean on our arrival.

The only issue that I could see, would be if there was a large party of adults, that there would not be enough room for everyone to sit comfortably in the sitting room together. This is clearly stated in the house description, but it would be something to be aware of. We had 4 kids with us, so this was never a problem.
