Details for holiday home PISCINE (With Pool & Private River beach), 3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 7, 1 Bathroom, 1 Separate WC

La Roque Piscine takes full advantage of the almost fortified position of the house, built on a giant rock overlooking the river. You enter via a walled terrace, with SPECTACULAR VIEWS of the Orb, its valley, vines and the mountain of Naudech (750m). In the middle of the terrace is a black-liner swimming pool (9m x 2.25m), with sunbeds, deckchairs, and a large dining table in the shade.

You can come into the house by the ancient front door, or through French windows to the comfortable salon (sitting room), which provides welcome relief from the summer heat. Like nearly all the rooms, the salon has beautiful hundred-year-old original coloured, patterned floor tiles.

An attractive corridor with Escher tiles and original artwork leads to a smaller, more intimate terrace at the eastern end of the house, looking down to the river over the medieval bridge, and up to the village on the hill opposite, ideal for breakfasting in the sun or eating out on warm evenings.

Fantastic property. Lovely kitchen with great views. Bedrooms light and airy but have shutters to keep heat out during day. Garden is gorgeous. We loved eating the fresh figs from the tree. The river is just wow. Kids swam, fished and kayaked every day. Local restaurant is lovely. Loads of the things to do nearby. Local markets fantastic. Gorges d'Heric is superb - gorgeous walk (husband went for a run on the nearby GR too) and beautiful rock pools to swim in. We stayed in La Roque Riviere (the downstairs one without a pool.) Met the neighbours who used their pool every day but we simply swam in the very safe river. Would definitely come again. Lady who showed us round was really friendly and helpful.

Stylish and comfortable house

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at La Roque Piscine. The house was well equipped and stylishly furnished. We enjoyed the area around the pool and walking down to the river bank. The kayakers regularly paddling by were making the most of the river. The nearby old village of Olargues is designated one of France's most beautiful and Lamalou les Bains provided a good shopping base and numerous restaurants. We made the 2 hour trek up Gorges d'Heric and also drove over the spectacular Millau viaduct. The Blue Lizard restaurant across the bridge does good food although the adjacent shop was closed while we were there.

A very restful break in an area popular with walkers and cyclists due to the lovely scenery and quiet roads.

  • The pool is 9mx2.25m and 1.5m deep. Although it has an automatic hard cover, there is no barrier immediately around the pool, which makes it less suitable for small children (unless constantly supervised). ELDERLY, INFIRM AND WHEELCHAIRS Although the accommodation itself is all on one level. there are a number of steps from the street to the terrace and from the terrace into the house. The private river beach is accessed down a series of steps through the attractive Mediterranean garden terraces, OK for adults and children, but definitely unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. The public beaches nearby (less than 5 mins walk) may be more accessible for someone with only moderate mobility problems. SMOKING Smokers are requested to smoke only outside the house.
