Large stone farmhouse plus characterful cottage in idyllic rural hamlet - Fig Tree Cottage

Overview

Property

Updated: 26-Nov-2016
Stunning setting in 9 acres of rolling countryside- for parties from 2 to 13.

Welcome to Les Chataigniers, where two houses, an enormous games room and heated swimming pool overlook nine acres of garden, fields and woodland. Take a look at our aerial video further down this listing in order to fully appreciate the setting and understand the layout of our property.

Visitors remark on the beauty and tranquility of its setting, at the end of a country lane in a tiny hamlet on the Tarn/Aveyron border. Exploring the glorious countryside around, on foot or by bike, is a delight. A short drive or woodland walk brings you to our nearest village with its bakery, butcher and general store. Further afield are historic bastide towns, vineyards, castles, lively markets and wonderful outdoor leisure opportunities.

If you are a group of friends or extended family looking for a place to enjoy each others company but escape to your own space when you need to - you will find it at Les Chataigniers.

SURROUNDINGS: COURTYARD

This large open space allows an evening game of boules, a barbeque by the farmhouse steps and freedom for young children to run around in safety.

CLUBHOUSE

Cross the courtyard to this enormous space where you can hide from the noonday sun and enjoy a game of table tennis or billiards, or watch a family film in an evening.

SWIMMING POOL

Out of the clubhouse, across a terrace with tables and chairs and down the steps is the 8m x 5m pool with its decked surround and sun loungers. It is fully fenced and all access points are individually locked. Optional pool alarm for extra security. Spectacular view!

LAWNS & TERRACE

Near the pool is a shaded seating area beneath a willow tree for those who wish to escape the bustle of swimmers. Below the pool is a level, grassed games area perfect for croquet or other ball games, with swings, climbing frame and slide.

MEADOW

Below the complex of Les Chataigners is the meadow; play a game of rounders here, or adventure across it to the woods above the stream.

Wonderful rural retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay at Fig Tree Cottage was as wonderful as our first .

After a busy week in Provence we were glad to relax in the peace and calm of this lovely part of France. As always a really warm welcome from Christine and Mark who are always on hand if need arises, but are also sensitive to their guests privacy.

The Cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. Sitting outside or on the balcony gazing over the beautiful countryside is so relaxing. Then a dip in the pool to cool off followed by a game of table tennis in the great games room filled our days. However it is not remote with excellent restaurants nearby and plenty of places to visit.

We love it so much we a returning again for a longer stay in 2017.

For a taste of real France, excellent facilities and time to chill out we have no hesitation in recommending Fig Tree Cottage for a memorable holiday.

Absolutely wonderful holiday location!

  • 5 of 5

We started coming to Fig Tree Cottage in 2013 and have come every year since! Chris and Mark are wonderful and Les Chataigniers is absolutely beautiful. We initially came following a friend's recommendation as we were looking for a first holiday with our 18 month old - and now couldn't think of anywhere better: we spend most of our time in the pool, or in the barn - which is full of entertainment for our daughter (and us!); we enjoy the log fire in the evenings; pain au chocolat from the nearby village in the mornings; and engaging with the chickens during the day!!

We couldn't recommend this holiday destination more!

Lovely rural retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Fig Tree Cottage. The cottage is in an idyllic little hamlet in the south of France, surrounded by gardens through which our toddler could happily roam - highlights included sitting on the old tractor and collecting eggs from the hens. The cottage was spacious (bigger than our house back home!) and had everything we wanted, including plenty of family friendly touches. And just next door is a huge games room and a brilliant pool. Chris and Mark were great hosts, warmly welcoming us after a long journey and helping when needed, and letting us chill out the rest of the time. We'd love to come back again soon for another dose of rural French relaxation! Oly, Katja, Flo x

A Fantastic Location with Amazing Hosts

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay, the location was stunning, the accommodation was perfect for our self-catered family holiday with 4 adults and 3 babies. Our hosts couldn't have been more helpful but managed to achieve the perfect balance of being there when we needed them but we never felt overlooked.

We'll definitely be back, hopefully in 2017!

Relaxing holday, stunning cottage

  • 5 of 5

Fig Tree Cottage was the most beautiful, relaxing holiday let we have been to. The welcome was very warm, great friendly couple. Spotlessly clean and well maintained. I would recommend the cottage to anyone with no hesitation. The pool was very clean and well placed to relax looking at the amazing scenery. Chris even baked a cake for our arrival and it went down a treat (had to get the recipe)

Our grandson loved going to collect fresh eggs from the 'girls' every morning.

This is by far the best holiday we have had in years and we will be back to stay in the house the next time. Thank you both so much Mark and Chris

Home to 10 of France's 'Most Beautiful Villages' - as well as the world's highest bridge at Millau - Aveyron is rich in culture, history and natural beauty, yet remains relatively undiscovered. This is the place for people who love the outdoors! Walking, riding, photography, cycling, fishing, kayaking - all can be enjoyed amidst stunning surroundings, clean waterways and pure air. Those with an interest in history will delight in exploring its bastide towns, its castles, its churches and cathedrals. For gourmets, there are several Michelin-starred restaurants close by - or shop for the freshest of ingredients in a vibrant marketplace then bring them home to cook at leisure. If you can drag them away from the pool, children will find much to entertain them in the area too - Cap Decouverte is a theme park with a difference; Micropolis, the city of insects, is fun AND educational. During the summer, street theatre and festivals are common, and of course every village has its own fete!
