2 Devon cottages (sleeping 4 and 5) with pool and tennis

These two cottages are tucked away in the hamlet of Stancombe which has been converted from a South Devon cider farm. They are about 50 metres apart and can be rented separately or together. Situated in 21 acres of outstanding natural beauty including orchards, woodland and gardens, they also have superb leisure facilities on the doorstep. Conveniently located for both the coast and moors with the nearest beach, Slapton Sands, three miles away at Torcross, they are within easy reach of Salcombe, Dartmouth and Totnes. Both properties have been fully refurbished to a high standard and are regularly used by the owners' family. They are a very comfortable base from which to explore the unspoilt beaches and towns of the South Hams.

Stancombe's extensive leisure facilities include indoor heated pool, tennis court and snooker room.

Close by are award-winning beaches, the coast path, Dartmoor, pretty seaside villages, sailing, and golf at Thurlestone, Bigbury and Dartmouth.

Stancombe: The 2 properties rented together sleep 9 although they may be rented separately:

Stancombe Lodge has 2 bedrooms, both ensuite – one double room with a king sized bed and one twin room with the option of a third bed if required.

Crocus is a one-bedroomed apartment with either a double or twin beds. There is also a very comfortable pull-down double bed in the lounge.

Both properties are entirely on the ground floor.

Facilities: The extensive leisure facilities at Stancombe which are shared with the thirteen other cottages which make the hamlet include:

A one-bedroomed apartment with an en-suite bathroom, Crocus was formed from the ground floor of a beautifully converted tythe barn at Stancombe Manor and opens directly onto gardens with a barbeque, and the tennis court and indoor pool are close by. The cottage offers a twin bedroom with ample storage, en-suite bathroom, kitchen including dishwasher and complete range of other equipment, dining area seating four, lounge which includes a TV and DVD player (there are DVDs and CDs, books and games in the property for guests' use) and also has a very comfortable pull-down double bed, ground-floor level throughout – no steps, cot and high-chair available if needed, well-behaved pets welcome. Tariff includes all electricity, heating, hot water, bed linen and full use of Stancombe’s facilities.

Loads to do without going anywhere.

Crocus is small but very comfortable. Really good to have indoor pool and tennis court and our teenage children loved the games room with table tennis and pool. Lovely beaches nearby and everywhere seems to be dog friendly.

Crocus has everything you need including some interesting books!

The Perfect Place to Unwind

We were so lucky to have excellent weather for our week's stay in Crocus in June. We went walking each day, sometmes on the coastal Path and sometimes in the scenic Devon countryside. The accommodation was first class and we made use of the well appointed swimming pool. Had the weather not been so kind we would also have used the snooker room and the well equipped games room. A tennis court was also on site for the more energetic. The gardens and grounds were immaculately kept and for those wanting to eat alfresco, there was also a barbecue area. We had meals out at one or two of the recommended local Inns - we particularly liked the Tradesmans Arms in Stokenham (where dogs are made very welcome!).

The only downside to staying at Crocus was having to leave after just 7 days. I believe a stay at Crocus should be available on prescription for those suffering with stress - an excellent holiday venue.

A truly lovely holiday

We arrived to a warm welcome and were told about the surrounding area and day trips available to us. Accomodation was lovely and very homely. Facilities on site were brilliant especially the tennis court which we made good use of! Overall a lovely, relaxing holiday that I would reccomend.

crocus at stancombe manor

We had a great time hit the weather just right. When we did use the pool at the property 95% of the time was just ourselves there. Area was nice and quiet but close enough to beaches etc. Staff were very helpful. property opened out onto a nice garden which our little 2 year old thought was great! pictures doesn't do it justice.A few suggestions, my partner would have liked a washing machine instead of a dishwasher at the property also addition of a gate on the path between car park and garden would have been good. Not that there was a lot of traffic there!

Owner's Response: We are investigating the possibility of providing a washing machine for next season. Stancombe is an old walled Devon farm in 23 acres of beautiful Devon countryside. Cars belonging to guests park there but there is very little passing traffic. There's a balance between gating off each exit to the farm and car park and retaining its beauty.

A beautiful place with great facilities

We booked last minute and the booking was handled quickly and personally. The cottage was well equipped and clean, with modern furnishings inside. It was a quiet place in a beautiful rural setting. We made a lot of use of all the facilities: heated indoor pool, snooker room, pool table, table tennis, tennis and pitch & putt! Highly recommended, especially if the weather is not great - lots to do.

A real gem

We (me, my partner and Oscar the dog) have just come back from a long weekend in Devon, and truly wished we'd stayed for a week. We couldn't have asked for a better location or place to stay. The apartment was clean and bright and well-maintained, we didn't want for anything. A morning swim was a great start to the day (we would have made use of the tennis court and pitch and put but for the rain). It was fun exploring the area and managed to walk every day (our water proofs came in handy!).

The owner was v helpful and always responded quickly to emails. I would definitely recommend this property/South Hams to friends and family.

Located in Devon between Dartmouth and Salcombe, Stancombe is conveniently placed for both the coast and moors. Its nearest beach, Slapton Sands, is 3 miles away at Torcross and the cottages provide comfortable holiday cottage accommodation from which to explore the many unspoilt beaches of the South Hams and to walk the coastal paths. Kingsbridge, Totnes and Dartmoor are also within easy reach.
