2 Devon cottages (sleeping 4 and 5) with pool and tennis

These two cottages are tucked away in the hamlet of Stancombe which has been converted from a South Devon cider farm. They are about 50 metres apart and can be rented separately or together. Situated in 21 acres of outstanding natural beauty including orchards, woodland and gardens, they also have superb leisure facilities on the doorstep. Conveniently located for both the coast and moors with the nearest beach, Slapton Sands, three miles away at Torcross, they are within easy reach of Salcombe, Dartmouth and Totnes. Both properties have been fully refurbished to a high standard and are regularly used by the owners' family. They are a very comfortable base from which to explore the unspoilt beaches and towns of the South Hams.

Stancombe's extensive leisure facilities include indoor heated pool, tennis court and snooker room.

Close by are award-winning beaches, the coast path, Dartmoor, pretty seaside villages, sailing, and golf at Thurlestone, Bigbury and Dartmouth.

Stancombe: The 2 properties rented together sleep 9 although they may be rented separately:

Stancombe Lodge has 2 bedrooms, both ensuite – one double room with a king sized bed and one twin room with the option of a third bed if required.

Crocus is a one-bedroomed apartment with either a double or twin beds. There is also a very comfortable pull-down double bed in the lounge.

Both properties are entirely on the ground floor.

Facilities: The extensive leisure facilities at Stancombe which are shared with the thirteen other cottages which make the hamlet include:

A two bedroomed house with en-suite bathrooms, Stancombe Lodge has been developed from two adjoining centuries-old barns and forms part of Stancombe Manor. It has been refurbished to a very high standard as the owners’ second home. The property opens directly onto its own terrace with own table and chairs; tennis court and indoor pool are close by. It is at ground floor level throughout, centrally heated and double-glazed and includes full use of Stancombe’s facilities.

The cottage offers a double bedroom with kingsize bed, a twin room with third bed if needed, two bathrooms, kitchen including dishwasher and complete range of other equipment, dining area seating six, lounge which includes a TV and DVD player (there are DVDs and CDs, books and games in the property for guests' use), cot and high-chair, bed linen, tariff includes all gas and electricity.

Superb New Year Getaway

A last minute decision to getaway for a few days for New Year took us to Stancombe Lodge. We arrived in the bright Devon sunshine, to a immaculately clean and welcoming cottage. Everything you could possibly need is provided, including the wonderful indoor pool and tennis court, which our 8 and 10 year old boys loved. The snooker room, and games room also provided lots of entertainment! The surrounding area is fantastic, and despite being chilly we made the most of bracing cliff walks, and beaches. The welcoming pubs all over the area made for a very relaxing break. The Lodge, and the other properties, really do provide a getaway from it all but close enough to so many amenities that you could never get bored! Thank you.

Perfect cottage, ideal location

Stancombe Lodge was delightful, clean, homely, and in a great location. Our 2 and 6 year old sons loved the pool and the playroom - in fact we had to drag them away crying to go to the beach! Our boys also loved the stream that ran into the pond (fenced off), after breakfast their favourite activity was to float balls down the stream. Great beaches within easy reach - we loved Mill Bay (National Trust beach). It was also fab to have an area out back where we could hang up wet towels after the beach. It was also very easy to deal with the owners, ask any questions and details on how to arrive were received promptly. The only thing I'd recommend is to have a visitors comments books as sometimes you can get good recommendations from previous visitors - it may have been at the bottom of the magazine/leaflets basket but we never made it to the bottom of it!

Review for crocus stancombe manor

The hamlet was just as is shown in the photograph with very well trimmed gardens.The property was very clean and well maintained, there was everything you needed in the cupboards. The shower in the bathroom was powerful with plenty of hot water. All the facilities were in close proximity. The countryside is really stunning with lots of lovely walks, and the pubs roundabout are pet friendly. Overall I would recommend this property to anyone looking to get away from it all for a quiet break. Thank you very much.

Fantastic holiday in the Lodge

We had a great week in this property. It was very clean, well equipped and everything had been recently renovated, particularly the 2 en-suite bathrooms. The patio at the front is lovely for eating outside, and it's location - right next to the pool - was a big plus for our swimming-mad toddler. The site is quiet, friendly and very pretty. Another great facility is the games room, which has a pool table, table tennis table and also lots of things for younger children - play kitchen, toy garage, games, books, jigsaws etc. Perfect! We will be back very soon.

Stancoombe Lodge

We stayed at the lodge for a long weekend in October and it was lovely. Everything was spotless and the kitchen was well equipped. The dishwasher was great and a new experience for me. The pool was lovely and everything was so peaceful. We had 2 children aged 7 and 2 they thought it was great, they loved to run around.

We would definately return.

Crocus was the base for our family of 4 holiday last June (at that point the boys were 3 years and 9 months old). The eldest would have happily not left Stancombe and spent the whole day in the pool or running around the lawns. We had stayed at stancombe several times before the cottages had be sold off and had found the porperty excellent then; and were pleased to still find an excellent standard. As noted with a young family the facities on site are perfect, pool, tennis courts, play room, BBQ & Picnic tables in listening distance from the cottage. The only thing lacking in the cottage for us was a washing manchine. It also stands as a good base for traveling around the area, which has wonderful beachs and excellent pubs! A fantastic part of the country to holiday in.

We plan to return again this year.
