"HYDRO MASSAGE HOT TUB" enjoying wonderful views across the valley.

We have enlarged our children's play area to include a TRAMPOLINE, FULL SIZED TABLE FOOTBALL to add to the swings, seesaws and table tennis.

To the pool area we have added a FULL SIZED SLIDE into the pool.

In the heart of Renaissance Italy, on Tuscany/Umbrian border, high on 400mt ridge, stands 'Podere Borgacciano'. 3km. from Monterchi, a medieval walled village (see Thames & Hudson's 'The Most Beautiful Villages in Tuscany').

Our lovingly restored 17C stone villa offers breathtaking magical views & tranquility set in beautiful mature gardens - wafting scents of roses, lavender, jasmine, rosemary and herbs. 5 acre grounds merge into panoramic countryside - fortified hilltop villages, castles, olive groves, vineyards, chestnut, oak and cypress woods, figs, sunflowers, poppies, corn, tobacco - enjoying total relaxation, peace and privacy without isolation. (village General Store 3kms). Magnificent 14mX6m infinity-edge swimming pool surrounded by lemons, Cypress and Olive groves with stunning views south from beautiful landscaped terraces across valley to the lush green Umbrian hills,

**SLEEPS 10 with ANNEX

POOL COMPLEX OPEN 28 April to 27 Oct 2012 : Magnificent 14X6 mt pool surrounded by 350 sq. mtrs of terraces, walkways, flower beds, cypress and olive trees. THE POOLHOUSE has a shower/ WC, summer kitchen and large shaded terrace,

table and chairs, barbeques and pizza forno, from which to enjoy al-fresco meals with stunning views across the valley. Mediaeval Lippiano Castle and the lush green Umbrian Hills form a backdrop.

We installed the finest pool equipment from the USA made by Culligan. The Diatomea Filter(Fullers Earth)filters out all particles over 0.50 microns. (The average Sand filter, filters out particles over 30 microns, making ours 60X more efficient) The Chlorination and Ph levels are computer controlled. Our groundsman cleans the pool and checks water quality weekly. An electrically controlled pool cover for insulation and safety is installed. The 14 mtr infinity edge allows you to feel as if you are swimming in the valley whilst listening to your favourite music from the outdoor speakers.

THE VILLAGE: Monterchi, its name derived from 'MONS HERCULIS' (hill of Hercules) whose cult was celebrated here in ancient Etruscan and Roman periods, is home of the famous Renaissance fresco 'The Madonna del Parto' (The Madonna of Childbirth) The mother of Piero della Francesca, the painter of the fresco, was born in Monterchi and the village became famous when in 1888 the fresco, painted in 1446 and considered one of Piero's finest masterpieces, was uncovered in the chapel of the cemetery. This restored fresco is now well displayed in the old village schoolhouse.

SIGHTSEEING: Podere Borgacciano is a 'Springboard' for sightseeing.

Florence (130 kms); Siena (90 kms);San Gimingnano (110 kms.) Assisi (75 kms) Pisa (150 kms); Perugia (65 kms); Arezzo (30 kms) (all distances approx.) are within easy reach. Rome, Bologna, and the Chianti wine countryside are within one to two hours travel. Both the Mediterranean and Adriatic coasts are no more than 2 hrs easy travel.

Local pearls such as Sansepolcro, Citta di Castello, Gubbio, Urbino, Anghiari, Caprese Michaelangelo (the artist's birthplace) and many more, abound with culture, art treasures, music and folk festivals.

Unspoilt TUscany

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 8 spent two weeks in this rustic farmhouse with fab views over unspoilt Tuscany. The gardens were lovely and the pool complex amazing - every detail had been thought of and no expense spared.

The nearby village of Monterchi was charming and there were a number of medieval hill top towns to explore with many of Italy's more popular tourist attractions within easy reach.

Podere Borgacciano gave us a holiday to remember and is highly recommended.

Peaceful & stunning location

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful location with many medieval hill towns nearby and stunning scenery. The house was clean, spacious and comfortable for the three couples staying there and well equipped. You do need a car to go everywhere, a small price to pay for the peaceful location.

The gardens were a blaze of colour and very fragrant, every part of the garden offered a different view of the Tuscan and Umbrian hills and countryside. A highlight for us was the infinity pool - an early morning swim with those views - a real treat. We were spoilt for choice with interesting places to visit and good restaurants, meaning a return trip is going to be needed!

We were made very welcome by the owners who recommendations proved to be excellent. They were always on hand if needed but did not invade our privacy at all. The local shops and restaurants also made us very welcome.

The house wine was good and it was a very nice touch to have a welcome pack there including homemade bread (delicious)on arrival. The local market was really good for local fruit, bread, cheese, meats etc.

Few negatives - we encountered a couple of small maintenance issues and these were dealt with.

We look forward to returning to Monterchi and Podere Borgacciano soon.

Storybook Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We had seen all the photos of the villa before going, but they could not compare to actually seeing it in person. Wow! We got very used to the view from our bedroom window, seeing for miles across the valley to the hills and towns beyond. Imagine walking out into the garden and picking ripe grapes, plums, and figs to eat - not to mention the fresh chicken eggs we collected every day. The property is filled with gorgeous trees and plants of all kinds, including fresh herbs that we picked and used for out dinner on a daily basis.

The rooms were comfortable and clean and we only needed the air conditioning a couple of nights as most evenings cooled down quite comfortably. We appreciated that the three couples each had their own bathrooms very much.

The pool complex was straight out of a Hollywood movie. The exceptionally large and refreshing pool was just what we needed after a day of sightseeing, and being ballroom dancers, we were thrilled with the outdoor lights and sound system so we could dance by the pool under the starlight - which we did.

Sunday's fresh market in Monterchi served us well, as did the local supermarcato. Local pizzerias provided us with great local food for those nights none of us wanted to cook!

If you're looking for a little piece of paradise and a place to call home while exploring beautiful Tuscany, look no further than Podere Borgacciano.

Fantastic pool area beautifully landscaped garden

  • 4 of 5

Magnificent private pool is the right description with breathtaking views. Very well equipped with bbq and outdoor kitchen.

For once the house has more than enough sun loungers and plenty of thoughtfully placed shades areas. The pool area is beautifully landscaped and a very peaceful place to spend the day

Our hosts were on hand and very generous and charming with local information on restaurants and towns to visit

The house was well stocked and the gardens beautifully landscaped with great views in all directions

The House is surrounded by good walks and it is a great opportunity to have a beautiful renaissance master piece on your route to the supermarket!

Absolutely loved this place and the Lessers

  • 5 of 5

Let me start out by saying that I am usually suspect when all the reviews of something are all extremely positive, but Podere Borgacciano lives up to the hype. We were three couples and stayed for a week in June/July and were delighted with the house, the grounds, the pool and especially the Lessers themselves who we were lucky enough to meet and visit with during our stays.

Being on both sides of the rarely traveled road (pool on one, house on the other with a 20 step walk between the two) you are afforded great views of two different valleys and two different Italian states (Tuscany and Umbria). The grounds a teeming with plants like rosemary and lavender which attracts a variety of fauna including butterflies and the coolest tiny hummingbirds I have ever seen. They actually look like insects they are so small, but look closely and you will see their tiny wings flapping away as they dart from blossom to blossom.

As others have said, the house and pool house are well appointed. Plenty of plates, bowls, pans, pots etc. if you care to cook. We were there during Porcini season and took full advantage of them being available. We utilized the pizza oven and grill for a couple lunches including Porcini pizza.

We cooked most meals including one at the pool house that the Lessers joined us for. This was one of three evenings we shared with Janette and Danny. What a great couple. We were regaled with stories of their past and their family, sharing our own and had a great time meeting and getting to know our new friends. Truly new friends.

Locally we visited Anghiari (cool little village), some wineries within an hour or so drive (Villa La Ripa and Tenuta Vitereta, try them both), Citerna (home to Imperia, who we unfortunately did not get the chance to meet due to our own schedules), Arezzo, Lippiano, and San Sepulcro. We never felt the need to venture more than an hour from the villa preferring to be there each night for dinner. The local grocery has everything you need. Don't worry about the language barrier. Marcello and Tina are fun with Tina just going off in Italian despite us telling her we didn't know much. Hand gestures and a few words got us by each time we visited.

A great and enjoyable stay. Highly recommended

Tuscan Gem!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure to stay at “Podere Borgacciano” for 11 days and I have to say if you want a true Tuscan experience, this is absolutely the place to stay. It has been said in other reviews but it is certainly true, pictures do not do the property justice. The grounds are absolutely beautiful we couldn’t have asked for more. It was very difficult for us to want to leave the property to go sight seeing particularly when we were lounging by the pool gazing out over the Italian countryside with castles and farms in the distance, while sipping the wonderful house wine produced within miles of the villa. We could not have asked for anything more, but I must say the highlight of the trip was having the opportunity to spend an afternoon and evening with the owners, Janette and Danny Lesser, they are delightful people and extremely knowledgeable about the area and its history, in fact they are very knowledgeable about a wide range of topics which made for a number of fascinating conversations. The Lesser’s, joined us for a lunch prepared by Imperia. We started our lunch at about 1:00 and didn’t finish until 7:30!, we didn’t want them to leave but they had been up since very early in the morning. We felt very lucky to spend so much time with them, and by the way, if you have a chance to have Imperia cook you a meal, I would highly recommend it. The lunch she and her assistant prepared at the pool was remarkable. Our entire stay at “Podere Borgacciano” was enchanting, and we can not wait to return.
