Simply perfect

  • 5 of 5

We (family of 4 from Germany) had a wonderful week in Canal View Cottage. Everything was as described and the location is simply perfect. We loved being so close to the lock and the Canal which was always entertaining. Bike rides along the Canal and to the various locks are wonderful. Carcassonne is only a short drive away, there is a big supermarket in Trèbes where you can get anything you need and if you feel like go the beach you can reach the sea in about 1 hour.

Ann-Marie and Adrian are absolutely nice and unobtrusive. In Marseillette you can get fresh bread at the local bakery (short bike ride) and the village itself is rather quiet. Canal View gives you a little more shade than Olive Tree cottage, which was nice, as it was quite hot while we were there. The pool is set amidst olive and almond trees (thanks for the almonds!) with some lavender in between so there was no way we would have traded with the boaters on those hot days!

We would love to go back and spend some more time in this lovely place.

Perfect Property, Great Location, Lovely Owners

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay celebrating our wedding anniversary at Canal View. The friendly owners live in an adjacent farmhouse and nothing was too much trouble. The gite is as described and the pictures you see are what you get. We enjoyed lazy afternoons by the sparkling pool which has been upgraded and refurbished recently. We cycled into Trebes and ate at the wine bar and at the Algerian restaurant Argan in the side street just over the bridge (both recommend). There is a large Intermarche Supermarket which had all you will need.

All said, the gites offered by Ann-Marie are excellent and I am happy to give them a 5* recommendation and we look forward to another stay.

Great property, lovely location.

  • 5 of 5

Really lovely house. Tastefully decorated and equipped with good quality, comfortable furnishings. Nice kitchen with all the necessary equipment. Beautiful bedrooms and bed linen too. Large patio with table and chairs, loungers and deck chairs.

The area is very picturesque with and the Canal du Midi winding through vineyards, all with a backdrop of hills and mountains. The owners are lovely; very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. There is another cottage on-site (Olive Tree) but the properties are back to back and have separate entrances so there is no loss of privacy. The garden is huge and has a good-sized pool. We loved this place and have already booked for next year! Well done Adrian and Ann-Marie!

A Perfect Spot on The Canal du Midi

  • 5 of 5

We loved our 2 week break at Canal View Cottage. Its location alongside the Marseillette lock is perfect for gongoozling and the views towards The Black Mountains are spectacular. The cottage is very well equipped and has everything you need to feel at home. Ann-Marie and Adrian are right next door to provide advice and information and If you ask nicely, they might even let you take Inkie, their gorgeous Black Labrador for a walk along the canal. We would recommend Canal view Cottage unreservedly. Just one tip, if you're a sun-lover you should definitely consider the adjacent South-facing Olive Tree Cottage as an alternative.

Lovely property, peaceful location

  • 4 of 5

Really beautiful spot right on the canal. The gite is simply lovely - very well furnished with comfy bed and well equipped kitchen. The hosts were more than helpful with suggesting bike hire etc, but in the end we just relaxed by the canal and did some local touring by car. The nearest supermarket is a short drive away so best to arrive with some basic provisions.

The only thing that may be an issue for some people is the toilet on ground floor, which may be a problem for people who usually get up a few times overnight as there is a rather narrow staircase to negotiate.

Would absolutely love to stay again some time.

Owner's Response: It was lovely to welcome you for your brief stay. It is nice that you found the Gite so comfortable. We spent a lot of time and care fully redecorating and refurbishing the Gites. The effort has been well received by all our guests. The Gite is configured to provide the best facilities for the guests which is 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and a separate WC. Whilst the Gite is large for a 2 bedroom property it is simply not possible to have the bedrooms, bathroom and WC upstairs. The configuration we have used is the same as the majority of 2 bedroom Gites which are on 2 floors Ann-Marie and Adrian

The village of Marseillette is close to Carcassonne in the southern Minervois region of the Languedoc. It sits between the Canal du Midi and the river Aude. A typical French village with a population of around 700, following alongside the Canal du Midi which is extensively used by hired boats & privately owned yachts and barges. It's a fabulous location for seeing the area or if you need your batteries recharging then you don't need to travel too far to see authentic French life. We have a wonderful Boulangerie, bar, hotel & hairdressers in the village.

The property is at the edge of the village and virtually surrounded by vineyards. The local industry is wine making!! Plenty of picturesque places to visit close by and historical sites. If you like walking, sight seeing, bird watching or wanting to just sun bathe then everything is here.

Trebes close by, offers all the necessary facilities such as; Grocers, petrol, supermarkets, chemist, newsagent, banks etc. All major stores and supermarkets are found in Trebes & Carcassonne. There is a mini supermarket in Capendu only 2 kms away open 6 days a week and sells most items. Marseillette is a great base for exploring the beautiful countryside and discovering new local wines. Cathar history, Beziers, Minerve, Caves / Grottos, Narbonne & the Mediterranean Sea, Spain are all close by.

Golf: Carcassonne has a beautiful 18 hole Par 71 - 5,758 metre golf course playable all year round with views of the Pyrenees and which is only a 20 minute drive away.
