About Andrew Martin

We love Cornwall & our part of Cornwall. After many years in London we moved back to Andrews home in the West Country to enjoy a better lifestyle. We bought Rowse - a 400 year old farmhouse & estate - in 2004 & have worked hard to restore it. It is now a beautiful home for us & our guests to enjoy.

Andrew Martin purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Andrew Martin chose Pillaton

We bought Rowse because of its secluded, peaceful location & its beautiful 40 acres of woods, pasture, streams & gardens. It is important to us that our guests enjoy their holiday, and as self catering cottage users ourselves, we have made sure our 3 cottages are comfortable, clean, well equipped and most importantly fun to stay in!

On so many occasions our guests tell us they have never been so relaxed after staying here - Rowse is a special place!

Cottage was exactly as described. Photos spot on. Kitchen is larger than we thought, and was really quite nice for daily breakfast as well as evening meals on the few days that we stayed "home". Extremely clean, perfectly maintained. Living and sleeping areas perfect. TV, audio system, all perfect. Lounging in the living area was perfect after each of our daily daytrips. Private estate is itself rich with history, it's 400 years old. Modern amenities in historic buildings... do take the time to pause on this while there, it's to Andrew's credit how the accommodations are while still respecting their history. There's a "respect nature" touch to everything they've done. Recyling, proper waste disposal - present and well thought through without being overbearing.

Andrew is super. Communication before, during and after our stay beyond courteous. Couldn't help but like Andrew - just a good guy. We can't think him enough! Everything is well prepared, local info, tips and such all available in a book in the property, and Andrew keeps pulse on how guests themselves find the tips he provides and adjusts if needed.

There's a Waitrose, Tesco, Lidl and Morrisons all within a short drive from the property - your self-catering needs are all easily met.

We went pretty much anywhere and everywhere from this cottage on a daily basis. Jazz/Blues festival in Plymouth to walks all the way at Lands End (a bit of a drive but don't let that scare you off). Looe, Falmouth, Salcombe, all easy drives from the cottage per day. For us, a Cornwall/west Devon perfect central spot to stay and start/end from each day.

(Sea)food throughout Cornwall was amazing... (we're first-timers to the area).

Our approach was to check the weather, take the tips from Andrew, and use online maps/tips/reviews/guides to plan out day trips. Internet in the cottage was fine for this but wifi speeds too slow to stream video. Our needs were met. If you want/needs faster speeds, we found T-Mobile had 4G speeds/connections at the property, Vodafone and a couple of others were slower and probably won't support streaming needs but normal email and website access over the wifi on the property is fine (you *are* in a 400 year old cottage - not in a city centre).

Would we stay here again? Absolutely. Now just hoping that this property won't be fully booked due to popularity the next time we want to come here!!!

Gorgeous cottage in beautiful, scenic setting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Tikkidew for 4 days in February, it was a lovely little holiday. We were welcomed by a home made Cornish cream tea, the best, softest scones any of us has ever had! The cottage was really beautiful, perfect for a romantic break. It got a little cold in the afternoons so we had to use the fireplace which made our stay even more cosy. We used the nearby China Fleet Club every day as you get a free membership when renting the cottage. This lets you into the club, however you still have to pay to use the pool, spa and gym, although these are all reasonably priced. All in all, a lovely place for a relaxing holiday!

Great location and well presented property

  • 4 of 5

We rented this property for 6 nights over the New Year period. We were provided with easy to follow directions by the owner which greatly assisted us arriving in the dark. Andrew the owner met us promptly and let us into the property and explained all the relevant appliances in the cottage.

It is a converted barn and as a result has a very high ceiling and because of the loft bedroom meant that the central heating did not sufficiently warm the cottage up. We do not know if there was a problem with the radiator in the front room which caused this. The heating in both the bathroom and kitchen worked very well and these 2 rooms were cosy. However, there is a log burner in the front room and this did give out a lot of heat when used. Due to the time of year it was very cold and we used it every evening. It was lit for about 3 hours a day and that was sufficient to heat the room. This did use 1 bag of logs per day which were available at the nearby garden centre for £3.85 per bag.

The cottage was very clean and looked modern and recently refurbished. The bed was comfortable and the linen was fresh. The kitchen was a very good size and well equipped with an electric fan oven, 4 rings hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. There was sufficient cutlery, plates etc for 2 people.

The cottage is part of 3 rentals plus the owners house. There was no other properties nearby which made for a quiet and peaceful break. Just what we were looking for. The nearby Weary Fryer pub is about a 15 minutes walk over the brow of a steep hill. It is worth the effort because the food was good, the beer was looked after and the staff friendly.

The location is excellent for exploring eastern Cornwall and western Devon. We stayed on the Cornish side and loved visiting the local towns and countryside. Saltash was disappointing but Looe, Fowey and Mount Edgecombe Coutry park made up for that and we did enjoy some great walks in those 3 areas.

We would thoroughly recommend this property as a holiday rental to any couples looking for a quiet break in a wonderful part of England.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review - its much appreciated. We are delighted you enjoyed your break here in our lovely part of Cornwall - many people do not realise how beautiful this South Eastern corner of Cornwall is! We are sorry the lounge heater seems to have under performed. Yes it was very cold at the time, but we have never had a problem with the heater before and it is designed to heat that space with a fan assisted boost. So maybe there is a problem, and we are getting it checked by the engineers now. Again thank you for telling us. Thank you also for leaving Tikkidew so clean & tidy. We hope your journey home was OK & we look forward to seeing you again one day. Kind regards to you both. Andrew

Tikkidew Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Tikkidew - Rowse Farm Cottages

  • 5 of 5

Its hard to write an honest review of Rowse and the hospitality offered by the owners, because if I do we may find it is always fully booked! We have stayed in Tikkidew on several occasions now and our expectations are always exceeded. Sally and Andrew are the perfect hosts unobtrusive but available when needed. The accommodation is well laid out and furnished and we have yet to find that a item we need is missing. We take full advantage of the golf offer at St Mellion and whilst we have experienced some changes over the last couple of years as the two courses have undergone development and improvement, they are great courses which we throughly enjoy playing.

Our golfing holiday at Tikkidew

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to Tikkidew and our fourth to the Rowse Cottages. The cottage is iseal for us as we spend most of the day on the golf courses of St Mellion (which is only a 5 minute drive away) and enjoy long, peaceful evenings in front of the woodburner when we return. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge area is large enough to entertain 2 guests as well. Andrew and Sally are excellent hosts and we always look forward to our cream tea upon arrival! We feel so much at home here and would highly recommend the property to any fellow golfers and couples looking for a lovely setting and wonderful value for money. Paul and Hayley, Haslington, Cheshire.

January 2017. PLEASE NOTE GOOGLE EARTH PHOTO IS 2005 & 11 YEARS OUT OF DATE! ALL OUR COTTAGES NOW HAVE PRIVATE GARDENS. Rowse is not a working farm, but is a 40 acre private estate set near the beautiful, protected Tamar Valley in South East Cornwall. Although easy to access, this region is often referred to as the 'forgotten' part of Cornwall. It offers peace & tranquility but is in easy reach of the many fabulous beaches, great coastal walks, pretty little villages, the dramatic moors such as Dartmoor & Bodmin Moor & many of Cornwall's and Devon's well known attractions.

So, if you would like a really quiet place to stay, relax in 5 star comfort and want to enjoy one of England's most beautiful counties, then a holiday cottage at Rowse would be ideal for you!

As a bonus, guests staying in all our cottages (2 adults & 2 children per cottage) receive free memberships at the exclusive China Fleet Country Club 10 minutes away. These allow special discounted rates for the leisure club and golf all year round. Please contact the owners for more details.
