About Paola Pardini / David Hayward

Me and David during our gardening time.

We moved to the countryside to spend our free time outside enjoying nature.

I'm from Lucca and David is english. It could be work!

Paola Pardini / David Hayward purchased this apartment in 2001

Why Paola Pardini / David Hayward chose Capannori

We love to travel and we'd like to meet at Stonehouse the people that we couldn't meet away.

This house was the property of Agostino, the old farmer who lived here a long time ago, with his animals and his vegetable garden. We renovated this building to preserve the character of a farm house.

Our guests say: 'home away from home'. This is our goal.

What makes this apartment unique

When we were looking for a farm house, we saw this property and we thought: 'this is it!'.

We saw the mountains around, the churches on the hills, and the sunflowers. The colours around helped us to decide.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As we are packing for leaving tomorrow morning we realized we have got a great time at your place.

Most of our drives have been not more (or much more) than an hour and that allowed us to get the most out of our time.

You were very kind on our arrival and have been helpful and precise in your advice.

Just what we hoped for!

  • 4 of 5

Loved our stay at this beautiful old stone house. The owners live on site and were so helpful with directions, suggestions for shopping, etc. The grounds are gorgeous! Food and wine, and homemade jam, were provided for our first night which was appreciated. Aside from the couches needing replacing, the entire apartment was spacious and delightful. It had lovely little decorative touches to make it homey. The beds were comfortable and we had two full bathrooms for the four of us (2 retired couples). The house is in the country but only minutes from a grocery store and other shops. We made dinner most evenings after touring all day. The location, near the walled city of Lucca, it is central to so many towns - we spent a week exploring Tuscany (including Pisa, Siena, Cinque Terre) and absolutely loved it. The roads were narrow and curvy but quite safe if driven appropriately. Would highly recommend it.

Quaint farmhouse - great location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent three evenings at the Old Stone Farmhouse this past week. We loved the location and found it to be near many of the places we wanted to visit such as Lucca, Pisa and Florence. We liked that it was tucked out of the way an truly in the country. The inside of the rental was plenty large for all 5 of us (2 parents and 3 adult children). We enjoyed that it had wi-fi as well. The only drawback was that it was cool in the evenings and we were actually cold in the house. We didn't know how to work anything and we got in too late each night to want to bother Paula or David. So just a heads up on that if you are from America.

Owner's Response: Hello and many thanks for your review, very welcome. We are very sorry that the apartment's temperature was not comfortable enough. In this season (spring on), the apartments are already warm, but if our guests need to turn on the heating we have no problems, but we need to know it and we will do it immediately. Having no request, we thought it was okay. We're sorry you did not tell us. Thanks again for your visit and we hope to see you again in the future. Best regards paola and david

Quiet, clean, spacious, and friendly. Definitely a 5 star accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

We were very glad to have found this place. Paola and David were wonderful hosts and very helpful, as this was our first time visiting Italy. We were greeted with a delicious fruit torte and bottle of wine upon arriving. We drove to many of the places they recommend and were not disappointed. I was given a bottle of wine from a local winery from Paola for a birthday present. How thoughtful!

We highly recommend the Stonehouse for a very relaxing and quiet stay. Neil and Claudia Gardner and Mauriann Barton, Bellingham, Washington and Edmonds, Washington.

Relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our time at this lovely farmhouse. Paola and David greeted up upon our arrival and provided some welcome treats in our apartment. The property was lovely. I enjoyed looking at the flowers and soaking up some quite time. (I found travelling in Italy to be a bit overwhelming with the so many tourists in the cities. You will not find this to be an issue here!) Thank you for your hospitality!

Old stone farmhouse (StoneHouse) near Lucca, Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

The property itself was stunning, surrounded by beautiful flowers and greenery, and included several outdoor seating/dining areas. Every morning when we got up David and Paola were out grooming the grounds, and always so friendly and cordial. We shared the 1st floor apartment with our daughter and husband and found the accommodations to be very clean and comfortable for the 4 of us. It was very quiet and peaceful. Paola and David went far and above the call of duty in helping us make the most of our visit to this beautiful area. They were outstanding hosts and gave us great recommendations! This location was a good starting point for day trips in the area. We explored Lucca, Pisa, the Garfagnana region/Barga, wine country from Chianti to Siena (and the winery at Castello Vicchiomaggio at Greve in Chianti is worthy of a visit - call ahead for a tour and lunch), the beach at Viarreggio, and of course, Florence. Even though we had a rental car, we took the train into Florence City Center, which I would recommend over driving and trying to park. A rental car with GPS to help navigate the area roads is a necessity. Within walking distance of StoneHouse is a restaurant, Paolo & Paola, which had excellent food - best pizza ever! Another restaurant I would highly recommend is Pizza Man in Florence, which was near our airport hotel on our last night. Very friendly staff and they specialize in home made pasta - delicious! HomeAway is aptly named, as every evening when we returned to StoneHouse we felt like we were going home. Thank you Paola and David!

EXACTLY as advertised! Beautiful farm house in the heart of Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Paola and David were the consummate hosts. They were there to welcome us in person along with homemade goodies (fresh fruit tart and wine and juice). Their recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing were spot on. Their responsiveness to our queries and willingness to help was the key to our wonderful time in Tuscany. I would stay there again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend this charming place!!

Our house is a few miles from Lucca in the green of the Tuscan countryside. The village is S.Ginese di Compito and the adress is Via Centoni, N° 14.

The town of Lucca, with its famous ring of walls, can be reached in a quarter of an hour.

The motorway, which is close at hand, brings you in less than an hour to the artistic treasures of Pisa, Florence and Siena.

The rolling hills of Chianti country and the Etruscan town of Volterra can also easily be reached. For rest days, there are many interesting excursions locally - on foot or by bike - to explore the Bientina marsh with its interesting birdlife, or the Pisan hills.

The Appuan Alps, with their spectacular summits and historic marble quarries are less than an hour away, whilst on the other side of the Garfagnana valley there are the more gentle slopes of the Appenines.

For those who prefer the sea, the riviera is half an hour away at Viareggio, whilst the wilder coastline of the Cinque Terre is only a little further .

Other Activities: birdwatching

Ski: Possible to reach the Abetone Pass in 0 minutes for piste skiing.
