Stylish holiday accommodation for families in a stunning rural location

Overview

Property

Updated: 20-Jun-2016
Luxury accommodation, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, heated pool

Le Cognassier and Le Cerisier were originally 18th Century stone barns and we have converted them into beautiful holiday homes.

Decorated and furnished to an exceptionally high standard, they are brimming with charm and character. With families in mind, we have blended modern comforts with our quirky vintage finds to create stylish and relaxed interiors. Set within a blissfully tranquil, walled garden the gites offer a haven of peace and an opportunity to escape to the countryside and experience the simple pleasures of French life. Within striking distance of large towns and the stunning beaches of the Atlantic coast, they also provide the perfect base for exploring this beautiful, unspoilt region.

Our aim is for you to completely relax here so we have equipped them with everything you need to feel totally at home.

Rooms are spotless, generously proportioned, airy and light. We have a passion for all things French and have thoughtfully furnished each gite in an original style which combines the needs for modern living with a charming quirky touch.

The kitchens have hand painted units to create an individual look and we have provided high quality appliances including a dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge/freezer ( with chilled champagne ), electric cooker, induction hob, and microwave. The kitchen equipment should please the most enthusiastic cook. There is an open plan dining area with table and seating for 6.

In the sitting room you will find comfortable sofas, armchairs and painted furniture accessorized with some of our vintage pieces. The TV has English channels and there is a DVD player, iPod dock and free Wi-Fi. Numerous books, toys and games are available for all ages.

Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms - a king, a double and a twin - with superb views of the pool, gardens and neighbouring fields of sunflowers, and a large family bathroom with WC. Downstairs there is a shower room with WC.

Each gite has its own gravelled, private garden with teak dining furniture, sun loungers and a barbecue. The gites are joined but do not overlook each other and offer total privacy.

Little ones are extremely well catered for. Cots, stair gates and plenty of baby/child equipment are at your disposal. See list here

For winter or longer lets our gites are open all year round and are heated throughout.

The large, walled gardens offer an extremely safe, enclosed area for playing, with fruit trees affording shade from the sun. There are swings, slide, small trampoline and trikes. Young children can build their own château in the sandpit or potter about happily trying to catch Twiglet the cat! Older ones may like badminton or trying their hand at a game of boules. There is plenty of room for a game of football with Dad.

The heated swimming pool has a Roman end with steps making it ideal for all ages. It is fenced for total safety with child proof gate and is surrounded by flowering shrubs. The decked area has parasols and teak steamer chairs with plump cushions. Arm yourself with a good book, iPod or just your own thoughts and feel the stress melt away.

For the nocturnal, our night skies are incredibly clear and offer fantastic stargazing opportunities.

About the Owner

We have lived in France for 10 years and our children have grown up here enjoying the freedom of rural life. Over the years we have gathered lots of local knowledge and can recommend places to explore and restaurants from family friendly to gourmet dining.

We work continually to keep the gites and gardens ship shape but are always happy to stop and chat to our guests and get to know them. Our children are always on the lookout for new playmates too!

If you are considering buying a property in France we will gladly share our experiences (good and bad!) over a glass of wine.

Our passion for antique and vintage living has led us to create our online boutique www.chateauchicdirect.com which sells original French furniture and accessories. Stock is available to purchase on site with a guest discount.

Beautiful retreat and very toddler friendly

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully renovated cottage, with a relatively private sunny garden perfect for sunbathing or eating outside. Such a gorgeous place for parents to relax without worrying too much about the kids. We were holidaying with a 21 month old toddler and there were plenty of toys to keep him entertained in the house as well as the swings and slide, sandpit, trikes, pool etc. outside. The house was well "baby-proofed" too, with stairgates, high chairs and most breakables out of reach. Very well planned out for a toddler-friendly holiday. It is a countryside retreat, and you really need a car to drive anywhere. But there are plenty of options for day trips within an hour's drive.

An excellent gite in beautiful rural France

  • 5 of 5

Le Cerisier was a very comfortable and well equiped Gite - a real home from home and fitted out to a very high standard. It is in a beautiful rural location and when we were there, there were fields of sunflowers as far as the eye could see - very peaceful and idyllic! When the sun shined we enjoyed relaxing with a glass of wine in hand and watching our 3 young children (aged 9, 7 and 3) roam free and enjoy their freedom in the large walled garden knowing that they were perfectly safe. We also enjoyed the swimming pool on site and many a great BBQ and leisurely lunch comprising great fresh French produce acquired from local markets. When we could tear ourselves away from the relaxing and peaceful location we did manage trips by car to may locations - Ile de Re, La Rochelle and Puy du Fou to name a few - we even managed a day trip to Paris using the excellent French Railway system. Our hosts, Sue & Simon were very welcoming and very attentive and it was lovely to share a glass of wine or two with them! However, the best bit by far according to our children was being able to play with Harry & Lucy (and the cats Twiglet & Pilchard!) and being allowed the freedom to roam wild with them - they are great kids and their mum and dad should be very proud of them!

Still Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our sixth consecutive holiday at the Paine family's gite in Tout Y Faut and it was as wonderful as ever. It's the perfect place for a relaxing family stay - huge enclosed garden, roomy and beautifully fitted out accommodation, secure pool and congenial hosts.

Already booked for our seventh three-generation holiday in 2012!

The Perfect Gite for the Perfect Holoday

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here for 4 years running and each time have had amazing holidays. Both gites are perfect - beautifully decorated, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The garden and pool are wonderful too - especially for young children - with plenty of space for running around whilst parents can relax in the gite's own garden area.

Sue and Simon are great hosts - nothing is to much trouble and their local knowledge is invaluable.

Despite having spent 4 holidays here, we still have yet to see and do all that the local area has to offer! It has the perfect mix of beaches, towns, cities, villages and countryside all within a 45 minute drive.

We've yet to find a holiday home that betters this one!

Brilliant Family Holiday

  • 5 of 5

The property exceeded my expectations and the owners were extremely helpful and kind. Their children were a delight and made the holiday very memorable for my children aged 5 & 2.

There are some great things to see and do within a 45min drive we visited Cognac, La Rochelle & Il de re. There are some good markets locally and some really pretty villages to visit.

I would definintely recommend this gite to my friends.

Location

From the Owner

Our properties offer superior quality and a relaxing retreat away from it all. The interiors are styled with a French look, furnished with vintage and antique items (nothing too breakable) to create a luxurious yet comfortable environment to enjoy your holiday. The garden is extremely safe for young children with a walled surround and gated and fence swimming pool. This gives you the freedom to relax, knowing that the little ones are safe.

Facilities

From the Owner

Many people comment on how peaceful and pretty it is here, whilst being very accessible to all local amenities, including bar/restaurant and pizzeria within walking distance. We love this region of France as there are so many things to see and do in the area. You can do something every day for 2 weeks and still not see it all. The area offers fantastic cycling opportunities as it is fairly flat and the roads are very quiet even in high season. We even have a bike company who will deliver and collect from your gite! With young children of our own we realise how difficult it is to please everyone but we think we've cracked it. Mum and Dad get a chance to kick back and relax whilst the children play. Harry will happily challenge anyone to a game of cricket or football and Lucy is content to chatter and play on the swings. As for the accommodation, our reviews speak for themselves.
