About the property

4 bedroom Holiday rental cottage near Lough Eske Castle & Harvey's Point Hotel

Brachan Brae is a luxurious 4 bedroom holiday rental cottage. All bedrooms are en-suite. Sleeps 8. The cottage consists of a well equipped kitchen cum dining room with an open fireplace. Opening out from the dining room is a sun room, where guests can relax, chat and enjoy the craic. It is a great "gathering" room. The living room has an open stone fireplace where you can sit and enjoy the smell of turf burning. Baby sitting service can be provided. Also, qualified guides are available upon request.

Brachan Brae Cottage is available all year round with a minimum stay of three nights.

It is ideally located for weddings in Lough Eske Castle Hotel or Harvey's Point Country Hotel which are both less than a 4 minute drive away. The cottage nestles in the foohills of Bluestack Mountains on the 'Bluestack Way & Bluestack Drive', County Donegal where you get stunning views over Lough Eske.

The cottage is located in a quiet scenic area, approximately 4.5 miles from Donegal Town. This is a bustling tourist town where you can visit "Magee of Donegal" - famous home of Donegal Tweed, Donegal Castle and Abbey, Donegal Railway Heritage Centre. "Donegal Bay Water Bus" is a "must" for all visitors to Donegal Town. This is trip out on Donegal Bay where you can enjoy the history and stories of the locality, hear a few Donegal "yarns" and enjoy a bit of music. There are beautiful sandy beaches nearby in Murvagh, Rossnowlagh, Fintra, Ardara and Glencolmcille. County Donegal has some great golfing - the nearest links courses are :Donegal Golf Club Murvagh, Narin/Portnoo Golf Club and Bundoran.

Why not experience the wonderful hill walking along the "Bluestack Way" or in the National Heritage Areas. Brachan Brae Cottage is a great location for touring Donegal - Glenveagh National Park, Slieve League (the highest sea cliffs in Europe), Gartan Outdoor Activity Centre, Doagh Island Famine Village, Lough Derg and Ionad Cois Locha.

Sligo is less than an hour away - where you can visit the Yeats Country, Benbulben and Mullaghmore or enjoy a game of golf at Rossespoint or Strandhill.

You can catch a glimpse of the Golden Eagles soaring above the Bluestack Mountains or wander through the old oak woodlands of Ardnamona, a National Parks & Wildlife Service Nature Reserve. Derry City is just over an hour away where you can enjoy a walk on the Walls of this historic City.

Fishing is another great past-time in the locality. You can fish (with a permit) in Lough Eske or why not try some deep sea fishing in Killybegs?

The house was clean and cosy, just ideal

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time in Donegal, with a family wedding in Harvey's Point - the house was a few minutes drive from the hotel and Donegal town.

The house was clean and cosy, just ideal for a getaway in Donegal.

Mairead & Patsy were wonderful hosts.

Would highly recommend.

Great location but some concerns

  • 3 of 5

Lovely location, ideal for the Harvey's Point hotel (5 minutes drive) where we attended a wedding. The house is plenty big enough for up to 10 people, has a lovely sun room overlooking the lake. What stopped this scoring higher than three stars was the slightly tired look inside, with well worn furniture, and some maintenance is overdue in the bathrooms. Also I had trouble getting directions and access details from the owner, only after a couple of reminders did I receive these about 5 days before we travelled.

Perfect place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

Great location, large rooms, and very personable owners. Our family of 6 had a really nice stay in this house. Kitchen was well-equipped and quite spacious for eating and relaxing. The sunroom was utilized as a goat viewing spot. ;). We spent a very enjoyable evening sharing ice cream with Patsy and Mairead and girls.

We would highly recommend this place - it was a comfortable home away from home.

Lovely cottage, lovely location, great value!!

  • 4 of 5

A party of 10 of us (aged 21-29) stayed at this lovely cottage as friends of ours were getting married, with the reception taking place at Harvey's Point (which is literally a 5 minute drive from the cottage! - great location!)

Upon arrival to the cottage, it was a very easy process of getting into the cottage and we were really impressed with the condition of the cottage! Very spacious living areas, large living room, hallway, kitchen/dining area with an extended glass conservatory leading onto the patio. There were 5 large rooms, 2 downstairs and 3 upstairs. Most having ensuite bathrooms. The overall condition of the property was excellent!!

As a group of 10, we were able to enjoy sitting outside in the garden and didn't feel like we were disturbing any neighbours, as there wasn't any in close proximity!

This property was excellent value for money, with all of the kitchen equipment you would expect for a self catering cottage. We all had a wonderful time and it made it extra special being able to all be in the same cottage. We would definitely return!!

We did hire cars, as we drove from Knock airport to the cottage, and we do recommend hire cars, as its about a 10 minute drive to the local convenience shops (we used SuperValue supermarket which is just off the Diamond square in the town) we also ate in one of the restaurants in the Diamond and had a few drinks in the town, and getting a taxi back to the cottage was really easy! All of the taxi drivers knew of the cottage, and everyone was so friendly!

If you are looking to stay close by to Harvey's Point or in Donegal in general, i really recommend this lovely cottage! We were sad to leave!!

Just back from a lovely weekend at Brachan brae, the cottage is extremely spacious and is well equipped with everything you need for a get away.We had a party off 5 adults 2 teenagers a five year old and a baby and the cottage was more than enough room with all rooms ensuite, Mariead came by the first evening to ensure we had settled in ok and advised of a few activities in surrounding area, Patsy came by on the Saturday and removed the rubbish and then came back a few hours later with a new born easter lamb so the children could see, which made their day, was a really nice gesture, also he had his sheep dog fly with him which the children enjoyed also, thanks folks for letting us stay in your lovely cottage, will see ya again soon.

The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and guests can also enjoy fishing at Lough Eske or a round of golf at Donegal Golf Club, Murvagh. Great to see that the children enjoyed the wee lamb & seeing our Sheep Dog "Fly" in action. Thanking you for your comments and looking forward to seeing you again in the future. Mairead & Patsy

Notes:

  • A beautiful house overlooking Lough Eske & nestling in the foothills of the Bluestack Mountains in County Donegal. Ideal base for Hill-walkers of for golfers or simply for 'getting away from it all'. The house was completed in April 2005 and is large and comfortable. The owners live less than a mile away and are able to offer advice on things to do locally. Both owners are qualified walking guides. The property is ideal for those attending weddings or functions at the nearby Harveys Point Country Hotel or Solis Lough Eske Castle Hotel. While you are in Donegal why not relax and unwind in Spa Solis at Solis Lough Eske Castle which features eight treatment rooms, a thermal suite and relaxation area and a spacious 12m indoor swimming pool
