Fantastic Stay in Capestang

  • 5 of 5

Spent a fantastic week here with extended family in May 2008. Capestang was wonderful - perfect size place to stay with bakers, market, restaurants, cafes and bars right on your doorstep and smack bang on the Canal du Midi for many a pleasant walk. Le Manoir was beautiful: great rooms, tonnes of space, great cooking and entertaining areas and a lovely pool and garden. Eilis could not have been any more helpful nor the local helpers. Highly recommended and hope to head back one day.

Fabulous property in the heart of a lovely town

  • 4 of 5

Fabulous property in a brilliant location for all the towns cafes and restaurants and yet once inside the walls it was lovely and quiet. We struggled with our lack of french with the housekeeper but as we had no issues and everything was taken care of this wasn't an issue and there was a phone number for a local couple of english speakers if we had needed it. The house was well stocked with everything you needed including pool towels which is unusual from my experience. I would highly recommend this property if like us you like to be able to go out at night without having to drive but you want a large house with all facilities. Most large properties tend to be in the countryside. The pool area was fabulous and spacious.

A wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

When we walked in we were just amazed at the place, the photos don't do it justice. 12 foot celiings, 6 bedrooms with en-suites, 3 of them were HUGE suites (One guest said "I don't think I ever have to leave this room"). There is a dining room and a lunge so there is plenty of room to spread out and large meals aren't a problem. Then there was the the pool and the courtyard to top things off. The place is simply and well decorated and not lacking in anything.

Add to this the town, with 2 markets a week (we never went to the InterMarché), being in the middle of wine country, and long walks along the canal, and you are set.

We spent a wonderful week, lounging around the house, lounging around the pool, evening drinks in the square and home cooked meals in the Manor. We couldn't have asked for more

Great Holiday Destination

  • 5 of 5

The house in capastang was more than we could have hoped for. We were a group of 7 adults. The equipment in the house was excellent. The owner had given lots of local information to us with lists of restaurants. The house was in excellent condition when we arrived. The pool area was very very nice. There was plenty of chairs tables etc. The village was great, had some lovely restaurants. We didnt have a car but were able to use the public transport to travel to other towns and villages nearby. There was a market twice a week in the village square, which was very good. Lots of fresh fruit, veg, fish and cheese. The bakery had all sorts of delicious cakes. There was also a very good butchers in the square. Its lovely to walk along the canal de midi. The weather could not have been better. All in all the I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to friends, although I don't think its suitable for young children. I hope you enjoy the property as much as we did.

a taste of rustic France!

  • 5 of 5

Nine friends (aged 50+) stayed at Le Manoir beginning of October and had wonderful weather. The house is rustic and beautiful, full of character. The accommodation was clean and welcoming.

Perfect location for visiting the surrounding towns like Bezier, Sete, Carcassone etc. Enjoyed a lovely bike ride along the canal du midi to Colombiers. Also the local beach was ideal.

Capestang being a wonderful French village with markets, restaurants, boulongeries and supermarkets.

The pool and furniture was in a lovely setting and made a relaxing break.

Hope to return to do more sight seeing in the future, need to improve our French and remember to bring earplugs as the church bells are constant! Be aware of the varied french opening times.

We would recommend to friends and the customer service was excellent.

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We have just concluded a holiday for ten in this gracious house. We were charmed from the moment we walked into the courtyard and through the front door and the fact that it is 50 metres from the town square means that a real French village holiday experience is inevitable. The house is grand but not luxurious. Rather it is rustic and charming - it has a history and when you are staying there you feel like you are living part of that history. The dining room, with table seating 12 is the heart of the house and the holiday. The outdoor area is fantastic with pool, deck chairs, great gardens and an arbor with table seating 12. Two of the bedrooms are vast so if you are lucky enough to "win" them this will add another dimension to the stay. All bedrooms and bathrooms are satisfactory. There is so much to do in the area around the property but you can also have great holiday without a car because of the location of the property and proximity to areas like the Canal du Midi ( just a 200metre walk from the house). Good choice of restaurants within walking distance and endless places for wine tasting and buying. Thoroughly recommended.

Suggestions for improvements: Provide pool towels; line the cupboards and drawers in bedrooms;tablecloths; a top sheet on the beds is really needed in the warm weather as the doona is too hot; provide some cleaning implements - toilet brush and cleaners, broom, mop etc as when you stay for two weeks you do need to do a bit of cleaning youself.

Capestang is a beautiful 13c village on the Canal du Midi, and is surrounded by lovely vineyards and woods for walking and cycling and riding. There are lots of very good markets in this area, both for wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables and general goods. The coast is 20 mins away with sandy beaches, some excellent fish restaurants and the fish market of Sete. For history there is the ancient walled city of Carcasonne, the Roman town of Narbonne, and the city of Perpignan. Montpellier, the buzzing university town, is only an hour away. Spain is only an 1 1/2 drive away and has a very different style to France. Or just sit by the pool with a book.

Other Activities: Cruising on the cana du midi
