About this property

Just Remodeled! Central Air, Level Beach, Quiet Setting & Great for Kids!

What a nice, peaceful place for a family getaway! Owasco Lake is one of the more undiscovered finger lakes, so if it's a little R&R you are looking for, this is the spot. New central air for 2021 so no worries about being uncomfortable on those hot summer nights.... We also just finished a large remodel to the first floor living area and kitchen. It is now one big open floor plan with fabulous views of the lake! The cottage now has new cabinetry, soapstone countertops, and all new appliances. There is a bedroom and full bath on the first floor and three small bedrooms and a half bath upstairs.
The lakefront here is very clean and great for swimming and water activities, not to mention the excellent fishing! Use the two kayaks on site, rowboat, fish off the dock, bring your own boat or rent a motorboat from a nearby marina. You are sure to catch perch, bass, pike, trout, and maybe some walleye. The level beachfront, along with a gradual walk into the water, make this property perfect for people of all ages!
This early 1900's cottage has had new flooring installed throughout and has updated baths. Brand new couches and all new high quality mattresses in 2019. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake from anywhere on the first floor or lounge on the spacious lakeside deck with comfy dining and patio furniture. Sit back, relax and watch the kids and family enjoy the water right from the deck.

Weekend Getaway
We visited in November and enjoyed a warm and cozy lake atmosphere. We ate in and dined out and explored the area. We had a wonderful stay.

Filthy Unsafe & Totally Inaccurate Description of Property
We reviewed the photos and reviews of this property and were looking forward to checking in and enjoying a few days of vacation. Our arrival and check in consisted of entering an unlocked open cottage and being assaulted with what smelled like a curious mixture of mold and mice feces. We were dismayed by the dilapidated condition of this cottage. Our photos are very different than the photos that were presented on the VRBO webpage. We will include them so that all can see what we saw. Within minutes of arriving, wife began getting watery eyes, itchy skin and difficulty breathing. We immediately began looking for a clean hotel to check into for the night. We were unable to endure the mold and filth for more than an hour so we finished our search in our car. Besides the pervasive odor of mold, some of the highlights of our experience related to this filthy unsafe “cottage” were noting that the furnace with visible open flame was inches away from a highly flammable curtain serving in the place of what should have been a fire block or door. The Circuit breaker box had appeared to be old spaghetti painted over wiring emanating from and haphazardly stuffed into an old ceiling material. The stairs upstairs were narrow, uneaten, filthy, and certainly not up to code. The dock was uneven unstable and unsafe. The back deck was filthy and filled with old wet leaves. The upstairs had multiple unsafe uneven flooring variations that are obvious trip hazards.

Short but great vacation
Great place for “short runaway”. Beautiful cottage and super nice host. Right on the lake with private dock and a smal beach. Super!!!

Lovely vacation house on Owasco Lake
My boyfriend, sister and brother-in-law rented this lovely home on the shore of Owasco Lake. We loved the way it was decorated! It had a large deck with patio furniture, full size grill and a long table for outdoor dining. It was a few short steps to the water and dock which were only slightly lower than the grassy area. (No steep inclines or steps!) It had one bedroom and bathroom in the ground level and other bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom with toilet and sink. The kitchen was large enough for us to cook several full meals, the appliances, counter and kitchen table were all very nice. It had all the cookware and serving ware we needed and we prepared several full meals while there. The living room had comfortable furniture that would seat 7+ people. The AC and heat worked well. There was a wood fire area near the water and we used that several times. We launched our boat from the boat launch on the north side of the lake then docked it at the house. I highly recommend taking a boat trip down the canal as it was beautiful and the so was the park area around it. On rainier days, we took a trip to Skaneateles and toured some of the small shops and restaurants. On another rainy day, we drove all the way around Cayuga lake, stopping to do some wine tasting at some lovely wineries. The owner of this property responded to our inquiries and provided a lot of great information. We could be more pleased with our vacation there.

We are both teachers in the area and are easy to get in touch with, especially in summer during your stay. We live fairly close to the cottage so whatever you need we are right here!

Why they chose this property

We loved the character of the cottage and worked hard to keep it during our renovation. There is original wainscoting and woodwork and has a New England feel to it. We also were happy that it was level for our small children at the time with a nice gradual walk out into the water. We could easily watch them play in the water while lounging on the deck. It's also only minutes to the city of Auburn, so very convenient!

What makes this property unique

Convenient to town and no stairs, cliffs or seawalls which are common on the finger lakes.
