About the property

Brick & flint barn, charming and spacious, sleeps 7, Family friendly/3 night min

Happy to offer 3 nights min. during non-peak periods. Set within the grounds of The Old Manor House, this charming brick and flint Barn offers the desirable combination of spacious and well-appointed accommodation, with a central location in Cley Next the Sea. Full of character, it comprises 2 generous double rooms, one with an en-suite shower room and the other with an adjoining family room. Sleeping up to 3 people, the family room is divided from the main double bedroom by a door, but does not have a separate entrance, so is suitable for children. The ground floor bathroom has a bath with integrated shower, washbasin and WC. High grade, Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels are provided.

The kitchen is fully equipped, including a new (2016) Miele oven and Miele hob, microwave, Bosch dishwasher, washing machine and fridge. Outside there is an attractive garden area, with a BBQ provided in the summer months.

The main living/dining area is spacious, with a comfortable seating area and log burner. There is a large, wall-mounted TV with Freeview and internet TV. In addition, there is a DVD player and a selection of DVDs for you to choose from. The dining table is situated near to the kitchen and sits up to 8 comfortably. One wall is almost entirely book-lined and includes a mixture of fiction and non-fiction.

For guests with small children, we have 1 high chair and a booster seat, a travel cot and both sets of stairs are fitted with stair gates.

The local area itself has lots of things for younger children to do, including crabbing at Blakeney, the seal trips from Morston and Blakeney Quays, plus within walking distance of the barn is a small playground. North Norfolk itself is full of fun activities for children and we have details within the barn.

There is parking for 2 cars directly outside the barn.

(Please note we have a FRIDAY turn around day and we have a no smoking and no pets policy.)

Manor House Barn is centrally located within the picturesque, coastal village of Cley-Next-the-Sea. An area of outstanding natural beauty, Cley village has much to offer visitors, who often return year-after-year to enjoy its many delights.

Once in Cley, there is a wide range of distractions all within easy walking distance. You could stroll to the beach, accessed via the marshes, and watch the sea fishing or simply enjoy a walk along the shingle. Alternatively the Norfolk Wildlife Trust visitors centre is nearby and is the perfect place from which to take in the marshes and bird watching facilities.

Within Cley village itself, you can lose yourself amongst its charming shops, pubs and restaurants. These include:

Artemis Cafe (outside seating over looks the marshes and is superb)

The award winning Picnic Fayre Delicatessen

Cley Smoke House - with a mouth-watering array of fish

Made in Cley pottery studio

Pinkfoot Gallery

Crabpot Books

The famous Cley Windmill.

From Cley you are perfectly located to discover the delights of the North Norfolk coast - a journey you can make by foot, car or the efficient coastal hopper service.

Neighbouring Cley is the pretty village of Blakeney, which offers sailing, crabbing, and a national nature reserve. From Blakeney Point you can go seal watching and boats can be hired from either Blakeney or Morston Quay.

North Norfolk is home to some of the finest stately residences. Holkham Hall, Blickling and Felbrigg, are all within easy reach.

Morston village, only 3 miles from Cley, is home to the superb Michelin starred restaurant Morston Hall. Offering guests a wonderful gastronomic experience - it does require booking well in advance.

Other local restaurants and pubs we would recommend are:-

Wiveton Cafe, Wiveton

The Cley Windmill in Cley (will need booking in advance)

The Anchor at Morston

The Wiveton Bell, Wiveton

The White Horse, Blakeney

Dunn Cow, Salthouse

The are all charming and offer excellent food.

For unspoilt sandy beaches, Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham offer fabulous, wind-swept coastlines. But if it’s traditional seaside towns you’re after, Sheringham and Cromer are also close by.

The charming market towns of Holt and Burnham Market are both well worth a visit, with Holt just 10 minutes drive from Cley. Both offer a rich variety of shops, galleries, restaurants and pubs, including the award-winning The Hoste Arms in Burnham Market and Holts’ renowned restaurant and delicatessen, Byfords.

Details on all these attractions and many more are available within Manor House Barn. However, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any specific queries about North Norfolk generally.

For a family it's great space, the layout is very open and works well , we didn't forget had anything missing at all , very well equipped and beautifully presented . Booking was very simple and Rachel helpful. We would certainly recommend it to anyone wanted to explore Norfolk as the location is perfect too.

Great property in peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

Manor House Barn is a lovely property and in a great location for exploring North Norfolk. The property is exactly as described with a very large living area - great for a group - and a small but well stocked kitchen, including a washing machine and dishwasher. Beds were super-comfortable with nice linens and the bathrooms were modern with no end of hot water!

Rachel was also very helpful and even loaned us her electric hand blender for the duration of the stay. Recommended!

Great cottage and superb location. So much to do and see.

  • 4 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at the cottage and plenty of room for 2 families.

It had everything we needed and within easy walking distance to two great pubs with wonderful food in the village.

Loved Cley and all it has to offer and the rest of North Norfolk.

A perfect stay for anyone who can easily get up stairs to their room and families too.

Thanks for having us.

Lovely property in a good location.

  • 5 of 5

As an extended family of seven with ages ranging from 4 to 68 the property matched our needs completely. The North Norfolk area is beautiful with plenty to do to suit all ages. Our highlights were the beaches at Wells and Holcomb, the Holcomb Estate, the steam railway and crab sandwiches at the Artemis cafe in Cley!

Great stay, lovely property and location

  • 5 of 5

Large living room, light and airy, plenty of room for the kids on wet days. Property perfectly located for shops and within walking distance of beach. Well equipped kitchen, full cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. We felt the house was sufficiently 'lived in' for us to be able to relax with small children. Small garden with BBQ and table for dining. Lovely bed linen and towels, excellent quality. Parking for 2 cars. Great property for a family, we will be booking again.

About Rachel Wastnage

David and Rachel have lived in Cley Next the Sea since 2009 and have been running the barn as a holiday rental since 2010. David works as a Fund manager and lives in London during the week and Rachel, a copy writer, often joins him and works from their Shoreditch flat. It is an interesting contrast to rural living, but they try to spend as much time as possible in Cley and are almost always there at weekends to ensure their guests settle in. Between them they have 6 children aged between 21 and 14 - Grace, Josie, Oliver, William, Henry and Eve - so their lives are kept very busy. The whole family loves the North Norfolk coastal area, so it really does appeal to all ages.
