*AVAILABILITY 13TH-20TH JULY 2018* The Old Vicarage is a beautiful victorian house, sitting proud on the sunny southern slop of Lee Valley. Surrounded by beautifully kept gardens that slop down to the small church of Lee and village beyond. The house is a short walk to Lee bay beach with it's amazing slate formations, cave and rock pools, also some stunning cliff walks and our much loved local pub The Grampus. SMALL GROUPS - 10 guests or fewer please enquire directly for tailored small party quote.

The accommodation itself is exceptional, blending stylish, contemporary luxury, with delightful period character. All rooms are large, beautifully proportioned, with high ceilings and big windows. Log fires, huge comfy sofas, games room with table tennis, Wifi, oak table to seat 15, large gas BBQ on the terrace and badminton on the lawn. Plenty of room for families and friends to come together, really stretch out and relax. Don't expect to fight the crowds on the beach here, even in Summer this is a hidden gem!


Situated in the centre is a large hall with wood burner, old rocking horse, grand father clock, huge stained glass window and beautiful Victorian gallery staircase. Leading off are 2 beautifully proportioned, light filled reception rooms.

The drawing room a 21x17ft room with high ceilings, open log fire, huge comfy L shaped sofa, a bookcase of reading delights, 42' plasma TV, fully loaded ipod/docking station and double doors opening out onto views of the valley and garden.

The sitting room next door is ideal for the younger generation and doubles as a games room, with large flat screen TV, Wii, 400 DVD library, Cornilleau all weather table tennis table and cupboard full of games.

The Kitchen/dining room is a place for all to come together, 24ft long, with large solid oak farmhouse table and seating for 15, double range cooker, large fridge freezer, high end bosch dishwasher, microwave, food mixer/chopper and abundance of crockery/cookware/utensil’s.

The Office is the perfect work retreat, with a Mac desk top computer, wireless printer, stationary, skype acc and main line phone for guest use. Also a water rower!

Also downstairs is a wash room with washing machine, drier and second fridge. A separate drying room, boot room/ downstairs toilet.


2 super king bed rooms (1 en-suite), 1 king, 1 double and a twin room. All are large and light, tastefully decorated with a mix of antique and painted furniture. Crisp white Egyptian cotton linens, Coordinating throws, big fluffy towels and beautifully presented bathroom luxuries! There is a 2nd bathroom with roll top bath and a large shower room.


2 large attic rooms furnished with a full sized single and bunk bed in each. Sturdy enough for adults or teens, these rooms are perfect for kids or younger adult group.

THE BOTHY is our latest addition to the Vicarage, a small victorian dwelling directly behind and above the main house. This provides an extra king suite if required, it has all the charm, warmth and cosiness of a Snow Whites cottage, but with all the modern comforts of luxury living.The bedroom suite is floored in oak, with a wet room clad in slate leading off, all heated with underfloor heating. If that isn't enough in the Autumn/Winter months there is a wood burner to light. Although all our bedrooms are 'luxury retreats', we do recommend that straws are drawn for The Bothy, as everyone will want to sleep here!

GROUP SIZE OPTIONS: Our maximum adult capacity is 15, however The Bothy enables us to cater for a maximum of 17 guests when a mix of adults and young kids are wishing to stay. The Bothy, the 8th bedroom is an add on and extra in our rates if required. We also have 'A SMALL PARTY RATE' during low/mid season for up to 10/12 guests

The house is perfectly set up and well equipped to meet the needs of large groups, so it has always been very popular for Special occasions such as Anniversaries, big birthdays, hens and of course family holidays. If catering for your party seems at all daunting, we can also recommend a local chef. They are more than happy to do as little as deliver a home cooked dish for you to cook as your own or cater an evening in house.

BEACHES: There is a wealth of beautiful beaches in the area. Our local beach is great for children, the waters are calm when the tide goes out and there is a mixture of sand and slate shingle to sit on. The slate formations make a very dramatic and hugely interesting coast line here, with an abundance rock pools and even a cave! Woolacombe our next closest beach is completely different. Voted best beach in Britain by Coast magazine in 2012, this is 3 km long and several hundred yards wide, when the tide goes out, of beautiful golden sand. This is where you come to catch a good wave, very popular with the surfers and boogie boarders, however the beach is long enough that you don't have to fight for that wave.

All the beaches are dog friendly.

THE GRAMPUS: A couple of hundred yards from the house and on the way to the beach you have our much loved pub The Grampus. A quaint, privately owned, family run pub full of atmosphere, with a great pub garden, some superb red wines (produced by our neighbours in Gigondas, on there 16th century family run estate) and dog friendly.

WALKS : There is a wealth of stunning walks from the front door. Cliff walks from the house westward to Bull point, Morte Hoe and Woolacombe or east to the Torrs and Ilfracombe, there are also trails through the woods. Exmoor National Park with its wild open spaces also provides a wealth of interesting walks, riding and cycling. More info about the various activities can be found at the house.

We came across Lee Bay through friends who invited us to stay. We fell in love with the area straight away, it was such a hidden gem! A couple of years later I came across The Old Vicarage Lee in the Sunday Times for sale, from that point my husband and I went through a lot of what ifs! When we were invited down again to visit our friends in Lee a couple of months after, we decide to view The Old Vicarage, the house won us over totally, it had such a wonderful aura about it. that was the day we became determined to change our dreams into reality...

What makes this house unique

The house is far more than just a rental to us, we consider The Old Vicarage our home. The house is full with all those home comforts that make a stay more welcoming.

The combination of a house with warmth, atmosphere, a breath taking sunny aspect, situated above the most delightful little church, in a pretty village with a fantastic local pub, all a short stroll from some of the most stunning and dramatic coast line in the uk, makes it a unique place to visit..

We had a splendid week at the Old Vicarage, enjoyed by all 17 of us. It's a delightful house, and feels like a "home" thanks to all the furnishings and pictures you have left there. We particularly liked having three living rooms on the ground floor so that all age groups were satisfied. And of course we had the annual village fete in the field opposite where our youngest boy reached the finals of the goal kicking competition! The village is incredibly unspoilt, lovely pub (we went to a music night), and welcoming locals. We'd love to come again if we have the same sort of numbers, but this was a special occasion (Golden Wedding) and we may not get them all together for some time.

  • All the bedrooms are large and airy with high ceilings, stylishly decorated with a range of antique and painted furniture. The beds have top of the range Hypnos mattresses, Egyptian cotton bed linen, coordinating throws and big fluffy duvets. All the rooms have wardrobes or chest of draws and the larger have both. The Attic rooms are most suited to children but the beds are full size so can accommodate adults. Bath towels are provided and luxury 'Branche d' Olive' bath products are complimentary. The Bothy is our newest addition to the house, positioned directly behind, above the main house, just a few steps away. We have just finished renovating this very sweet Victorian out house into another main suite. The bed room is oak floored with underfloor heating. The ceiling we have kept pitched to expose the beamed ceiling. in case the heating isn't enough in the winter we have also added a wood burner, for that extra cozy feel!

The Old Vicarage is surrounded by 1.5 acres of garden, orchard and wood. The lawn area is perfect for badminton so there is a net and several rackets provided. There is also a lovely wooden swing in the garden for the kids. We have numerous bits and pieces for the beach ie. buckets and spades, boogie boards, picnic basket and plastic picnic ware. Then when back at the house there is a special wash area round the back to de-sand it all! The house is well equipped for children, with plenty of board games, books, table tennis and Wii to keep them amused. There is also cot, high chair, changing mat, stair gate and numerous plastic cups and plates. A chef service is available for those who would like a night off from the cooking.

The property is in a great location and is of a large spacious size perfect for larger groups

The house is situated in a small village with a lovely pub and a dramatic beach just a few minutes stroll down the road. The larger towns of Ilfracombe and Woolacombe are just short drives away too where there are loads for most age ranges. The house is well equipped and large so there’s plenty of space if a few families are staying. Lovely kitchen where you can all get around the table for meals then 2 sitting rooms if the kids and adults want to separate. For very young children there are a couple of features that you just need to be mindful of which is the steep garden (typical of the location) and the bannister where the spindles are a little wider than regulations today but a stair gate was provided to stop the very young from venturing unsupervised. Our kids were 2,3 and 4 and didn’t have an issue. Overall a brilliant stay in a lovely house surrounded by beautiful gardens and scenery with loads to do either a short walk or drive away.

Fantastic accommodation!

The house is very well-appointed, spacious, clean and comfortable. The large kitchen table is great for meals and getting everyone together - we accommodated 15 plus a toddler with no problem. We all commented that it didn't feel like a holiday rental - it felt like a home, and we made it so for our three day visit.

The ping pong table got some good use, and the afternoon sun in the living room made it a great place to relax (and the couches are super comfy). Easy access to the coast path and Lee beach were great for walks.

Highly recommend staying here!

Warm and comfortable stay for all ages

Beautiful house for a long weekend celebrating our mother’s 70th birthday. Fantastic for all ages and lots to do inside the house wheather you want to relax or there is use of computer, console etc so happy teens! Fantastic bedrooms and the kitchen itself was very well equipped. Would definitely visit again.

a great family holiday

We've been to Lee before and love the village but this was our first visit to The Old Vicarage. We found the house charming and very comfortable. There is lots of room for a large party. We enjoyed badminton on the lawn, watching DVDs from the extensive library and playing games on the kitchen table. We also spent a few sociable hours at the Grampus. I would recommend this house to anyone in need of rest and recuperation in a peaceful location.

The Old Vicarage is ideally placed within lee village itself and for the numerous activities and sites of the north Devon area.

Lee itself is a very quiet village, quite unspoilt and authentically English. It hosts only the small church of Lee with its local arts gift shop and The Grampus pub, with a lovely garden and delicious food!

Lee Bay, is a pleasant stroll from the house, a kids haven, with a wealth of rock pools, caves, coves and secret passages to explore.

For a more traditional beach, with miles of flat sand and dunes, there is near by Woolacombe or Croyde, offering some of the best surfing for professionals and amateurs on the Devon coast.

The area is perfect for walking, with a host of stunning coastal walks on your doorstep and Exmoor near by.

Ilfracombe, which is the nearest town, a 10 minute drive, offers the famous Victorian tunnel beaches, aquarium, harbour and trips to the National Trust Lundy Island to see puffins and seals. The artist Damian Hurst also has a restaurant here and of course his Verity statue stands proud on ilfracombe key.

OTHER ACTIVITIES: We have an extensive list of activities for all ages at the house, to include museums, gardens, water and dinosaur parks, bowling, cinemas, cycling trails, swimming with sea lions, golf, Clay pigeon shooting, archery, abseiling, coasteering, gorge scrambling, horse riding and many more of which can be found in the near by area.

GOLF: You are spoilt for choice in North Devon with clubs like Royal North Devon, Saunton and Ilfracombe all being near by.

Royal North Devon is the oldest course in England but also seems to be the one of the friendliest.If you have never played here before it maybe worth hiring a caddie! Saunton, another links course, boasts the East and West coarses of which Nick Faldo said 'I cannot think of anywhere in England where 36 holes could be more enjoyable'. Ilfracombe, which is 3 miles away is a very relaxed privately owned beautiful cliff top course, with spectacular views along the magnificent North Devon coastline. This is a great course for teenagers to take on Mum's or Dad's as it may not be the longest course but the undulations and the prevailing South Westerlies will challenge golfers of all standards.

For youngsters there is a driving range and a par 3 pitch and putt course approx. 2 miles away.

4 night midweek stays available after a long weekend booking or out of season, please enquire.
Our change over day is generally Friday or Monday.
The main house has a maximum adult sleeping capacity of 14 guests when there are no additional children. When there are children 10-11 adults may sleep comfortably in the main house.
£400 damage deposit (depends on party size etc).
We welcome a max. 2 dogs on request. (charges apply).
