Why Philip Crow chose Gaiole In Chianti

The picture tells it's own story! A stay in Gaiole in Chianti puts you at the heart of fine wine and fine food.

What makes this apartment unique

Borgo di Gaiole mixes old with new and is a unique development. It offers all mod-cons including air conditioning and excellent on site facilities, whilst remaining true to Tuscan architecture and traditions.

The location offers all the benefits of a classic Chianti villa holiday with rural peace and quirt, whilst being within easy walking distance of all you need; and as an added bonus you have all the sophisticated modern facilities of the Borgo immediately to hand.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We've had a fantastic time here this week. The apartment is so welcoming and we've loved making use of the sun terrace with it's beautiful views. The 'red folder' has been very useful and we've managed to tick off most of the 12 recommendations and even did both of the short walks to Vertine & Riecine on a couple of evenings - some steep hills, but well worth the effort!"

Fantastic base for exploring Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Gaiole in Chianti which is in the heart of the Chianti Classico region with outstanding views and plenty of wineries, picturesque villages and restaurants to explore. The Minore apartment was very well equipped and of a very high standard with plenty of facilities in the borgo including a gym and pool to relax in on hot summers days. Bikes were available but we had hired a car and decided to explore that way visiting Florence and Sienna which were well worth the trip.

The file of information was invaluable giving great ideas of places to visit and a list of restaurants some of which we visited and were not disappointed.

We certainly recommend Casacorvo and hope to be able to get there next year too.

Fantastic home from home

  • 5 of 5

My wife, daughter and I stayed in the Minore apartment for a week and we all absolutely loved it.

It was our first holiday in Italy, and the apartment is so clean, comfortable and well equipped that it truly was a home from home, which we all looked forward to returning to after hot days spent exploring Tuscany.

We all enjoyed the pool and my daughter loved her first taste of table-tennis.

The apartment's guide book is full of ideas for things to do and the small town of Gaiole is charming, with a convenient supermarket and some nice local restaurants. I miss the sound of the church bells already, and we would all love to visit again someday!

Special stay in a special place

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I stopped in Casanova Maguire in September 2017 and had the perfect holiday. The apartment has everything you would possibly need and much more besides, the owners have thought of everything. The owner was attentive courteous and extremely helpful, and clearly has excellent taste; the apartment has been tastefully renovated to a very high standard, maintaining many original features. The location and borgo are simply blissful, in short I could never recommend this apartment enough. Perfect!!!

Owner's Response: We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. Chianti is a fantastic place to stay in the late summer - just that little bit cooler to help enjoy the cities, the castles and of course the vineyards! We hope you will be back soon!

Superb

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay was excellent. The owner provided very detailed information concerning the property, travel information and places to visit. The property was extremely well appointed and equipped. The wine on our arrival was very welcome!! The staff who looked after the property were very friendly and helpful. The Borgo is in easy walking distance to the small town Gaoile, which is also pretty and friendly. We particularly liked being able to get into Sienna quickly and easily. The 30 minute drive meant that we visited 3 times during our stay. We would recommend this property and hope to visit again ourselves.

Great base for enjoyable Tuscan holiday - but you'll need a car.

  • 4 of 5

An attractive and well appointed/equipped apartment in a tasteful complex, situated high above the small town of Giaole. Patio offers great views of town and ideal location for early morning or late evening refreshments. Excellent support from workers on and off site. We didn't use the communal pool, but particularly enjoyed the opportunities for biking using the cycles provided with the apartment - though the hills are a good challenge in the heat! Siena, Florence, San Gimiagno all within easy reach by car, which we would suggest is essential if staying more than a few days.

The owner, Phil, was a great correspondent and couldn't have been more helpful.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your helpful comments and delighted you enjoyed your stay. Yes, I agree most guests will need a car, both to maximise benefits of local options, and indeed to reach Gaiole in the first instance. Unfortunately, public transport is not the regions greatest strength.

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

By far the best part of our trip to Italy! This is definitely a place to visit. The owners Philip an Ann were amazing! They really made this trip special for us. There are vineyards and tastings to do all around the area. Just a few minutes walk to town to have a taste of their pastries and coffees. The tiny town is exactly what we envisioned. The people are so friendly and the area is breath taking. In the Chianti Hills where the vineyards are a backdrop to everything was wonderful to wake up to each morning The apartment was perfect! Loved sitting out on the veranda in the morning. Area is perfect for biking, walking, hiking and a short drive to Sienna(25 minutes) Florence is about an hour or so. But honestly once you come to this little town you won't want to leave. There are just so many little villages around the area to explore. Philip and Ann have a list of things to do and places to see but my favorite was our lunch with Chef Simone! Best meal ever. I can still taste the salted cod! The wines are spectacular but my favorite is a Chianti Classico. Since back in the states that is my go to wine. Thank you Ann and Philip for making our 30th Anniversary so incredibly special and a memory that I will not forget.

There are over 100 wine producers in Gaiole commune alone, ranging from the world renowned Castello d'Ama through to small family vineyards.

A centre for local business, Gaiole offers 5 restaurants, 3 cafe bars, 2 delicatessens, a great value pizzeria, a tourist office, pharmacy, ATMs and shopping for all local delicacies and holiday needs.

Famous for it's cycling festival, L'Eroica held every year during the first weekend in October, the village also hosts frequent concerts and festivals.

It is an excellent centre for walking and cycling, the Siena-Florence long distance footpath runs along the ridge above the village, and there is a maze of way marked 'strada bianchi' (unsurfaced roads) criss-crossing the surrounding hills and valleys just waiting to be explored.

Vineyards and olive groves abound, amongst which sit the majestic castles of Meleto, Brolio and others, and from the atmospheric ruins of Montegrossi gaze down on your accommodation and wonder at the magic of Chianti

Other Activities: cooking courses, scooter hire, wine tours
