About the property

The main house sleeps 4 to 5 people with separate studio that sleeps upto 4.

Ambiance Nostalgic. The little hamlet of St Mediers next to Montaren is a short drive from Uzes , about 10 minutes by car. La Bergerie is a renovated Sheep - Fold with walled Garden and shady tall trees surrounding the property - a private place - that stays cool during the hot Summer months - although the pool with sun terrace has the sun all day , giving you the choice of Sun or shade.

If your not into walking; transport is necessary - if only a bike to cycle down to the village to buy bread or a newspaper.

At the large supermarket at Montaren you may buy Groceries,Household Goods, Clothes and Petrol. There is also a Pharmacy.

This house also makes a Cosy Haven in winter with central heating + fire place in the Salon. There is a good size kitchen big enough to eat in as well as tables and chairs on the terrace and in the garden.

There are 3 double bedrooms including the Studio with it's own shower and w.c.

The Studio is ideal for Grannies, Nannies, Friends or Family who need a little space. The House + Studio may sleep up to 9 including children. For comfort 6

Great place to stay and wish we had longer

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 weeks in September. The property was lovely, peaceful but not too remote and great for relaxing.

The accommodation was very comfortable and the kitchen was great to work in if you like cooking ( good quality pans and equipment).

The pool is a good size and was excellent to swim in. There is sun and shade around the pool so will suit all.

The are countless tracks for walking and cycling right on he doorstep which was fab so the car stayed in the parking spot for most of the holiday. BUT you really do need a car if you want to sightsee or shop. Internet, and sat TV was also a plus.

The property was clean and sheets, towels and pool towels were also provided, included in the cost.

Uzes is a lovely town but if you want to go to the Sat market, which is a must, get there early preferably before 10am worth getting up for.

I would certainly recommend this to friends and family as this is such a find.

Thanks Shirley for providing such a great place. We will hopefully return soon :)

Owner's Response: Thank You so much for your review and it was very good to meet both of you. To buy a paper or a loaf of bread many people enjoy the walk down to the village and back - although for most people it is at least half an hour or more there and back ! But on a bright and sunny morning that's fine if you like early morning exercise ? Otherwise the supermarket is just a short drive where you may shop - and stock up with everything for the week - if you want ? If you are into cycling there are some lovely places to explore around St Mediers as indeed there are some some beautiful walks . Hope to meet you both again it will be a pleasure !

Lovely Traditional French Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Bergerie at the end of July (2012) for a week and had a fabulous time. We are a family of six with four grown up sons and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The peace, tranquillity and traditional French feel were the main plus points, but when we were ‘in’, the boys had plenty to do with the pool, UK satellite TV and free WiFi.

The pool is lovely, a really good size and wonderful for the week we were there as the temperatures were in the mid-thirties all week. The Bergerie itself is equipped with fans for the bedrooms and, despite the heat, was cool enough without air conditioning. With two boys sleeping in the “annexe”, there was plenty of room even for our large family. It is spotlessly clean and very well equipped with added touches such as guide books, cool boxes, plenty of outdoor seating and an excellent range of kitchen utensils. We particularly enjoyed eating in the shade of the veranda although there were always plenty of sun traps around the pool and garden.

The Bergerie is quite remote, which is good, but a car is necessary even for the morning bread run to Montaren, unless you are a keen cyclist. The nearby town of Uzes is lively, with some good restaurants and has a traditional market twice a week. There is a good Supermarket just outside Montaren which is in easy striking distance for stores and supplies.

The owner was very helpful throughout and a delight to deal with.

Owner's Response: What a lovely review and - thank you. When you arrived -- I must admit I was a little worried ! Not for any other reason than I did not know the ages of your children beforehand, and when 4 young adults arrived I must admit I was a little unquiet about the situation i.e. What will they do ? There is not a disco within walking distance -- or even to be found on a long run ! Within 20 minutes whilst explaining where everything was - with an odd comment from somebody in the family - I began to think " they will be fine and I think everyone will have a good holiday ". I am so pleased that you did. Because I think in the future it may be a little more difficult (ages - education etc ) to have a family holiday ? So --- I am pleased it was at St Mediers in France Thank You for staying at La Bergerie. My very best wishes to all of you. Shirley.

Great find, great owner

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at la Bergerie in August 2011 for two weeks and had a very relaxing stay. Situated in a small hamlet it is quiet and peaceful but not totally remote, being only about 10 minutes drive to the beautiful town of Uzes and 5 minutes drive to a large supermarket. If you are a walker or a cyclist the surrounding area will really be a wow factor but you could equally enjoy days out and /or sitting by the pool.

Shirley , the owner , was extremely helpful and went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable. The house itself is very clean and well equipped, particularly the kitchen where the quality of pans, utensils, glasses etc was excellent. Whist we didn’t have enough of us to require using the beds in the additional annex, it was useful to have another shower and toilet . There is Wi-fi and satellite TV, plus abundant fans for hot days (although the house interior is quite cool even when it’s 36 degrees which is a welcome relief) . A good range of books gave this homely touch.

The pool is wonderful and a very good size. Although the house and garden area is very shaded, the pool gets the sun all day so this suits both sunbathers and those who prefer shade. There are plenty of sun loungers and outside tables and chairs. The beds were comfy and linen and towels plentiful.

There is plenty to see in the immediate area and Uzes is truly a delight but we can also recommend Anduze and Nimes. If you want to go further afield it is easily less than an hour to Avignon and the beach at Grande Motte. We often walked into Montaren to the bakery and post office and it took about 20 minutes, however you do need a car as Shirley makes clear.

We would recommend this wonderful find !

Owner's Response: I would like to give this family some stars as well. For making good use of the facilities on the premise. Enjoying the surrounding countryside to the full and over all being so pleasant, understanding and very constructive - one of them in particular ! La Bergerie has wonderful walks all around it and short drives to small villages with local wine producers or other home made or home grown produce. In St Mediers you may buy olive oil a short walk away from the house . And then there are the wonderful Uzes markets - Wednesday and Saturday - just a short drive away Thank You very much for your review. You are VERY welcome. Very Best Wishes From Shirley.
