About this property

Freida Historic Farmhouse Bellingen - Sharing country bliss together

FREIDA HISTORIC FARMHOUSE BELLINGEN

We welcome you to stay in our beautiful home - Freida Historic Farmhouse . Located in Gleniffer, the jewel of the beautiful Bellinger Valley, our classic Australian farmhouse has become very popular for gatherings of families and friends, particularly multi generation get-togethers. The home is very spacious and has a special ambiance. The original owner, famous pioneer midwife, Freida Hicks, cared for women and babies across the Bellinger Valley in the late 1800s. Many say you can still feel that care.

They describe Freida as a step back in time.

The house has an old world feel, full of period features, high ceilings and original old floors. The four double size bedrooms have french doors which open out onto big wrap-around verandahs. The wood fire in the lounge room and the claws foot bath which looks out to the trees and local mountain ranges, are both very popular with guests.

Freida has a fully equipped roomy country kitchen and loads of space to hang out, catch up and relax. The verandahs have an outside dining table, a hammock and a number of couches and chairs for resting, chatting and bird watching. On ten acres, you look out across rambling gardens, old orchards and an abundance of beautiful birdlife.

With excellent NBN internet, Freida is also great option for those seeking a beautiful country location to work remote.

We attract great people who appreciate life's simple pleasures - loved ones, good food (probably also wine :) ) and being in nature. Check out the 80 plus reviews that we have received from very happy guests.

There's loads to do in our area - swimming, hiking, kayaking, picnicing.
- Freida is 10 minutes walk from the beautiful Bellinger River - highly recommended at dusk.
- She is 10 to 15 minutes drive from the now famous Never Never River.
- Half an hour's drive further up our road sees you up the mountain to Dorrigo and its world class National Park. This is a must for anyone new to the area.
- Twenty minute's drive back into vibrant Bellingen has you shopping, coffeeing, dining, chilling and crowd watching in one of the most interesting towns on the north coast of NSW (Byron now comes to us!! :) )
- If you have time you will also want to continue on to the coast to swim and walk along our sensational beaches (particularly the Urunga Boardwalk over the estuary).

We allow 2 day stays, mainly so that people find us when searching for weekend escapes. But we seriously encourage you to think about a longer stay. Most people who have stayed for only 2 nights have said it was not enough time and that they "haven't even lain on the hammock yet" and feel that there is so much more to see and do - and just not do.

Ask us about our "stay for 5 nights, pay for 4" option.

We also offer two bedrooms in the garden apartment below the house for larger groups and special friends and return guests.

We can also potentially support small special events. We have some wonderful catering and music connections, and hospitality experience.

We hope to host you soon - feel free to reach out with any questions or special needs.

90 year old birthday celebration
The property was perfect for our gathering with plenty of room for all of us. It was very spacious yet the fireplaces made it feel very cosy. The beds were super comfy hence everyone slept well. The seating around the verandah enabled people to get some quiet time if needed and the hammock was a hit. The supersized oven made cooking a breeze. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of cutlery, crockery and glassware. Liz was easy to deal with and ensured the rooms were configured to suit our needs. A beautiful place to stay, near beautiful waterholes. We can’t wait to visit again.

Truly fabulous country retreat
Frieda Historic Farmhouse is a fabulous home to truly feel away from it all. Four huge bedrooms make this an ideal property for the large or extended family. The property was very clean and filled with everything you could want to have an enjoyable get away. The hosts were just lovely and very accommodating. I would truly recommend this property to clear the head and breathe in the fresh country air. Kerryn

Oh Frieda you are amazing!
What a beautiful home in such a gorgeous location. Directions to the property were perfect, we would have been completely lost without them. My family and I enjoyed our weekend break so much we are already looking at booking again for next year. The house was perfect for our family and everyone said how comfortable the beds were. We enjoyed the fire each night and breakfast on the verandah, also the fresh garden flowers in each room was such a sweet touch too. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay!

Beautiful Fridas
We loved our stay at this beautiful old rustic property. The farmland setting is idyllic and the property manager could not have been more helpful. The house takes you back to a bygone era with amazing wrap around verandahs and furnished with some lovely period pieces. The sounds of the bush are very evident with lots of frogs and birds close to the house. The 20 minute drive to Bellingen on narrow and winding roads was not a problem but some may see it that way.

We were so excited to find Freida, which we bought in early 2017 from lovely Helen and Tom. It was like a dream come true. And it's a return home - my 3 children were all born here. Once you have lived in this valley it always stays a part of you.

When I was I younger, I worked in hospitality management so part of the dream with Freida was sharing the property with others - with guests and with family and friends. It is the most delightful place and everyone who comes here seems to loves it.

We all love travelling and hope to also attract international visitors here. In time, we are also keen to develop 'Freida' as a place for families and friends to come together to for small weddings. There is an abundance here, particularly at the Gleniffer Church and Hall. Also for cultural activities like dance, yoga and art. 'Freida' is a perfect setting for people to have time together. And she is just a little bit romantic :)

All in good time ..... 'Freida' is definitely a work in progress.

PS. That photo is not me - that's my octogenarian mother in the Never Never at our most recent family gathering at Freida (I reckon that image says it all!)

Why they chose this property

What we love about Freida seems to be the same thing that everyone loves about it - this feeling of stepping back in time - and the sense of peace and tranquility, you can't help but relax. And of course, the birds and environment.

And the region. As anyone who has been here knows, this is a very special part of the world. The valley has a climate and pace all of its own. Sometimes mellow, sometimes dramatic - and other times just sweltering tropical hot. Our winters are divine.

Also the history of the house is unique and we all feel a special connection to Freida and are so grateful of the association and having the chance to continue on her spirit of care for community. Her story is remarkable, particularly given how tough the pioneering days were here.

What makes this property unique

A country destination to wind down, recuperate, share time with loved ones in a stunning natural environment
