Nice villa and pool but shame about the constant flies and smells from local surrounding pig farms.
The villa was reasonable and the outdoor space and pool were great. Owner was fairly quick to respond to any issues where he could. The fundamental problem with the villa and resort is the local pigs farms (there are a lot) which produce a dreadful smell and more flies than I have ever seen in my life. Consequently it was impossible to enjoy the outside space, let alone eat outdoors. Even in the pool the flies buzz persistently around your head. The resort was obviously hit hard by the recession and has a ghost town feel about it - the main areas appear to have empty shops that have never had tenants. No idea about the golf although the course looked rocky and dry. Other sports facilities were tired, with old equipment produced on hire. We had several power cuts while we were there, resulting in sitting in darkness for a couple of hours. Nothing in the sorrounding area. Definitely need a car. Local town Fuente Álamo has supermarkets but not much else... for any reasonable shops or restaurants you need to travel to Murcia or Alicante. Would we stay there again? ABSOLUTELY NOT! By contrast we stayed at El Plantio golf resort in Alicante for last night... so much better and what I would expect from a 4/5 star golf resort... shame we did not book there instead! When we arrived at the villa and were met by the smell and flies, I was told by the owner “it is the countryside!”. There were no instructions within the villa to help you with how to operate washing machines etc. Worse still... while the bed sheets were clean the quilts were heavily stained, dirty and clearly had never been washed. We were provided with towels - some of which had holes in! Just a bit of pride, care and basic attention needed! Disappointing.
