About the property

‘Zalia’ is a contemporary luxury villa, with a private pool and panoramic views

“Casa Zalia”, Fuerteventura, is part of the small collection of private luxury holiday homes of the Zalia Retreats portfolio.

You approach the Casa along a lane, which winds upwards through the typical lava fields of the island, passing homes where aloe vera is farmed, where dry stone walls tumble down the hillside and where goat bells sound the goat herder’s arrival. The distinctive chimney of Casa Zalia appears and its white walls sited in a pocket of black rock stand against the brilliant blue of the sky.

Architect designed to maximise the enjoyment of the island’s climate and landscape with spacious outdoor facilities sheltered by the house’s own structure and the traditional dry-stone walls which border the garden. There are sun terraces protected from breezes by the design of the house and from the strong sun by a shady pergola. Steps lead to yet another terrace on the roof with views to the sea and Lanzarote in the distance.

The spacious living area incorporates vibrant furnishings with dove grey ceramic floors and signature white walls; vast windows, which overlook the swimming pool, allow reflections to dance on the walls. This room has a wood burning stove for any evening when you may want to be cosy, to watch a DVD, to play music or to simply make your choice of the available SKY channels.

The dining table in this room is large enough to seat six to eight for a simple supper or a more formal celebration by candlelight with white china, napkins and gleaming glasses.

The adjacent kitchen area affords a space for a casual breakfast or a place to sit and chat with the cook! There are all the necessary appliances – a large fridge freezer, oven, hob, dishwasher and washing machine. The view across the fields opposite encourages you to linger here, although there are several options for eating out in nearby Villa Verde.

Move a little further into the house, down a step or two, again overlooking the pool into a corridor which in time will showcase contemporary art works and currently offers a number of useful guides to the island. All three bedrooms open from here and are decorated with style but offer a degree of real comfort and seclusion. Smooth, white bed linen and silk taffeta curtains have been imported from the UK together with a range of occasional furniture. The largest of the bedrooms has an imaginative use of space. Large windows enable drowsy holidaymakers to watch the moon cross the sky (or to check on the prospects of the day’s excellent kite surfing). On a lower level, a bath is incorporated with a perfectly placed tiny window offering the bather a private view of the garden. Just to the left is the door to the en suite wet room, with rainfall shower and lavatory.

The second double room again opens from this corridor but overlooks the Casa’s pool. There is lots of wardrobe space for even a relatively luxurious collection of holiday clothes, a dressing table and a choice of lighting. A third bedroom with more than enough space for full size twin beds and side tables offers flexibility for families or groups of friends.

Wonderful! 4.8/5 -

Had a wonderful stay at Casa Zalia. I felt like I was living in a home normally found in the pages of Hello Magazine! Absolutely spectacular. The master bedroom was better than any 5 star hotel. The villa was clean and had everything you could need. Outdoor space fantastic - lots of different areas to relax. Grocery essentials were also left for our use. Communication with the owner was easy and he gave us many tips and recommendations for the island. We were very happy to be away from the busy resorts but could be there in around 10 minutes if need be. Lots of supermarkets around the area and a lovely bakery 20 minutes walk away. A car is essential. Driving is very easy on the island. I felt the Villa was perfectly placed to visit all the main areas in the North of the island. I would wholeheartedly recommend this villa and would love to come back. Also - the beds - so comfortable, better than my own.

Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

I cannot fault this property at all - the pictures do not do it justice. We had a fantastic, relaxing week and hardly left the villa because we loved it so much.

Views are spectacular of the surrounding area and islands.

Joseph was always quick to respond to any emails sent before our travels and was incredibly helpful and professional.

I would recommend the property and zalia retreats to everyone. We cannot wait to return again to Casa Zalia.

Lovely holiday in beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

Villa was amazing. Weather was perfect around about 23* for most of the week.... So nice tan.

Lots to do.. Highlights were walking up the volcano behind the villa, only took about an hour. Amazing views from the top.

Cycling from correlejo along the coast line although the road was a little bumpy. Nice shops in town and restaurants especially along the sea front...

A wonderful holiday. Thank you 😃😃😃

Excellent family holiday.

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Casa zalia with my 6 yr old son, and my mother. Had an amazing week, well equipped, lovely and clean, both my son and I loved the pool, a little cold at this time of year, but well worth a dip after our fun filled days. Sand dunes were my little ones favourite, visited these most days. Our favourite restaurant had to be Casa Marcos, great food, great staff, definitely worth every penny.

Can't wait to return again. Thank you for an awesome week. 😄

My family voted Casa Zalia as the best!

  • 5 of 5

We have holidayed in many villas and my family voted Casa Zalia to be the best!

The house beat all our expectations and was spotlessly clean for our arrival.

Stylishly furnished and well equipped.

The views from all the windows, the pool, the volcano and Lanzarote in the distance made it a special location and perfectly located for all the beaches in the North.

The pool isn't heated but the children still loved it.

Beds were so comfy that we are planning to buy the same bed for our own home.

Can't recommend Casa Zalia enough.

Beautiful location but not well-maintained

  • 2 of 5

The location is beautiful, the views over the island are stunning and the villa has all the facilities you can wish for. However, the maintenance and cleaning are below standards. Especially the cleaning. The floor was dirty and sticky when we arrived, the freezer was filled with (half-eaten) food of previous guests and the closets and rugs were extremely dusty. No good value for money in our opinion. Too bad, because otherwise this villa would be a real gem.

Owner's Response: I have to say, it is disappointing to see this guest wrote the above. The guest on arrival made several claims around the cleanliness of the home, which were not correct and our housekeeper, who we have used since building our home, validated this immediately . The main aim of this guest, was to secure a reduction in the amount of their stay. Given that the guest was so dissatisfied, I offered a full refund to them and the opportunity to choose another home or hotel, as I do not want our guests to be unhappy on their important weeks holiday. They declined this offer and then sent daily emails about receiving compensation from me. Our aim and goal is to ensure guests enjoy their holiday and they return or go to our other 3 homes we have listed on homeaway.co.uk ref 1092358, 1152338 and 415384, all with over 41 reviews giving them 5 star. Whilst I accept any feedback, as this allows me to improve the service we offer, on this occasion, it was not is correct and does not reflect the standard of property I am offering.
