Traditional galleried villa restored and re-designed by Naomi Cleaver
Featured in the Times '50 Best Villas in the Caribbean' list, 15 November 2014
'The overall effect is a mash-up of Mad Men, Rudyard Kipling and James Bond. Features include a deep veranda, white cathedral ceilings, old metal fans, white muslin and a bathtub at the foot of the master bedroom's four-poster.' The Sunday Times, 6 June 2013.
'Cross Gone with the Wind with an early Bond film (think Dr No) and the resulting style will be something akin to that of Naomi Cleaver's gorgeous house on the Caribbean island of Nevis: ceiling fans, white muslin, lush colours and romantic verandas, plus leggy furniture, graphic fabrics and sleek mid-century minimalism.' Katherine Sorrell, Daily Telegraph magazine, 23 October 2010.
'Naomi Cleaver has kept it simple – white-painted wooden floors, cathedral ceilings and walls (except in the living room with grey/blue tones inspired by a cactus in the garden). And she brought over her Fifties’ furniture that was upholstered to match. The whole look’s a fantasy blend of Mad Men, Somerset Maugham and James Bond.' Cheryl Markosky, Primelocation.com
The Galleries has 5,500 feet of living space, with two double bedrooms – one air conditioned – three bathrooms, large living room, vast kitchen, studio and an air-conditioned media room with WiFi, Hi-Fi, books and over a hundred movies on DVD.
There is an acre of garden, featuring mahogany, banana, citrus, palm and mango trees and a variety of cactus, and bird life including herons, white egrets, warblers, banana quits, grass quits, finches and hummingbirds.
Plus a 70 foot swimming pool, with outdoor shower, loungers and eating area.

Unforgettable Family Vacation!
About the Owner
We have been visiting for over 20 years, and we've owned the villa there since 2005. We lived there for two years 2008-2010 while we managed a major refurbishment. Naomi wrote her book 'The Joy of Home' there (Conran Octopus 2010).
Guestbook comments from the owner
The Galleries really has a sense of understated elegance. The photographs show exactly what the house is like. It really is that good!

Unforgettable Family Vacation!
I can't put into the words the unbelievable week we had in Nevis in the Cleaver's lovely home. The house is identical to the photos...stylish, comfortable, immaculate and the most amazing views from every window. The Cleaver's were beyond helpful before our arrival...sharing wonderful suggestions, contacts and recommendations for our stay. The house manager, Amelia, was lovely and kind and helped us feel right at home the moment we disembarked from the water taxi. Our family of four easily fit in this house and had tons of room to spread out. The pool! I have never been in such a pool...we spent countless hours floating and staring at the beautiful sky and foliage. If you are looking for a vacation that you will never forget, this is the house for you.
Amazing all round!
We recently had the pleasure of staying at The Galleries and I can honestly say this is a truly fantastic place to spend a holiday. The house is amazing, in a stunning location and stylishly decorated throughout. There is everything you need to relax and make it a 'home from home'. The pool area is so quiet and relaxing and if you are lucky (as we were) you will be treated to the sight of the monkeys migrating, on mass, migrating to another part of the gardens during the day - truly amazing to be so up close. I must also mention Amelia, the property manager, who is a true star. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left nothing was too much trouble - she provided information about the island, shopped for us, arranged car and bike rental, you name it she was on hand to help.
Regarding Nevis itself, it is a beautiful island and although it is quieter than the neighbouring St Kitts, there are plenty of restaurants, beaches and activities to keep you occupied. We particular like the sunset horse ride on the beach - fantastic views of the island.
In summary, I would not hesitate to recommend The Galleries to anyone looking for a stylish holiday base on a relaxed island with all the local support you need.
The most amazing house for the perfect getaway
The excitement started climbing abroad the water-taxi at Reggae beach in St Kitts. A speedy, fun crossing of about 10 minutes took us right to Ouialle beach where we were met by the House Manager.
From the moment we entered the front garden of The Galleries we knew it was something special. Once up the sweeping staircase at the front we entered into a relaxed, beautifully styled lounge. I felt all my stresses and troubles slip away. The view from the whole front of the house is really something special. We spent hot afternoons laying in the hammock or reading in the swing chair. You can never get enough of the view. The pool provided plenty of sunbathing and fun pool games, although beware of inflatables in the pool near the Aloe Vera plants!!! Cooking in the kitchen is a pleasure with plenty of work space, and a well stocked bar! The biggest decision we had was where to sit and eat. In the kitchen, outside the kitchen or up on the gallery. Evenings in were spent on the numerous seating areas around the Gallery, or watching films in the DVD room. The air con was a welcome relief from the heat and needed to just cool the bedrooms an hour so before bedtime.
The house is luxurious, immaculate and impeccably clean. The House Manager, Amelia was lovely and on hand at the end of the phone for anything.
Plenty of wildlife visits the house. A group of Donkeys pay a little visit, monkeys are plentiful about 5.00pm in the afternoon, the humming bird was a real treat, and we loved watching the trees light up with the night flies.
The house is positioned well to visit Ouallie beach and Pinney beach. Both sandy and perfect for swimming. They are walkable, but would recommend a car for the stay. Particularly to stock up at the supermarkets and to explore the island. Car journey to Charlestown is about 10mins and there you have the choice of 2 supermarkets. A visit to the natural hot springs is recommended, we were only brave enough to dip our feet in. Horse riding on the beach is a real treat I would recommend.
Pinneys beach has great beach bars for food and drink, where you really get the Caribbean vibe. Would also recommend Bananas.
Overall The Galleries made the most perfect holiday for us. It's luxurious both in its decor and the comfortable furnishings, soft towels, and great quality bedding, and you still get that view from the showers.
We loved Nevis and the Island life and hope to return to both the house and Island one day.
Charming! All that we expected and more!
Our stay at The Galleries was wonderful. The manager, Amelia, is delightful and so helpful. The property is clean and well maintained. We all enjoyed sailing, snorkeling, biking, and even hiked to the top of Mt. Nevis! We loved our pool time with the monkeys in the backyard. I will recommend the house to family and friends. Oliver and Naomi, the home owners, have a real jewel! Thank you for sharing your home and your knowledge of the island. We hope to return in years to come.
Perfect Nevis Villa
Wow! We have just returned from a week's+ stay at The Galleries. It was perfection. The owner, Oliver, & local villa manager, Amelia, are fantastic and communicated regularly leading up to our arrival--making everything seamless. The villa itself is beautifully decorated (no surprise given Naomi's talent) and is situated among fruit-laden trees & vibrant flowers, which attract green vervet monkeys and beautiful birds. The villa is a short distance to the island's best beaches and the well-maintained pool is perfect for lazy afternoons. We were a family of four (two adults and two young children) and it was a delight for all ages. We highly recommend this special villa.
Beautiful Caribbean Villa
The Galleries was lovely. It was our second stay at this stylish and elegant villa which recently received a decorating update—now with two master, ensuite bedrooms, on each side of the comfortable, airy living room, and a small kitchen and media room to the rear. A very large kitchen and third bedroom and bath are on the lower level. There are so many screened windows that there are always breezes throughout. This home has all the modern comforts, plus its architecture, with a wide, wrap-around veranda, makes one feel a part of an earlier, romantic age. The lap pool is so inviting, set away and below the house, surrounded by trees, with monkeys adding that touch of the exotic. Oliver Cleaver makes all the arrangements for the rental and arrival so smooth and easy. After a long flight, it’s wonderful to be met at the St. Kitts airport, driven across St. Kitts to a water taxi, whiz across the water to Nevis (it’s so exhilarating), and be met by Amelia Chiverton who will help make your stay on Nevis very comfortable. The very clean rental car arranged through Oliver offered good cushioning on Nevis’s sometimes bumpy roads. Also, you’re an easy drive to nearby restaurants, like Chrishi Beach Club, where you can enjoy lunch and then laze on lounges on the beach. Don’t miss Golden Rock for its lobster sandwiches and its beautiful, ever-expanding garden and Bananas for its coconut cake and another pretty garden. Have fun comparing rum punches everywhere—I even found that I liked the rum punch at Montpelier better than Sunshine’s Killer Bees (though we did go to Sunshine’s three times during our stay. The whole grilled fish there is delicious.) Everyone on Nevis is very friendly. Staying at The Galleries on Nevis is the perfect getaway.
From the Owner
“The villa is elegant and funky, mainly stone and wood with natural breeze and a wide wraparound veranda gallery. There is secluded 70 foot pool and large airy kitchen. Nevis itself is small and peaceful (there are no traffic lights!) but with plenty to do - hiking, cycling, sailing, golf and tennis - plus beautiful beaches and romantic plantation house restaurants.”
Activity and Interests
Nevis is old-fashioned Caribbean. Just five miles wide, it’s a relaxed island rounded by beaches and rising through rainforest to a 3,200 ft peak.
“On the map Nevis is a pool of green champagne. Life here seems defined by the constant, although somewhat half-hearted, struggle to achieve maximum comfort for minimum effort.' Sunday Times, April 11, 2010.
Nevis has plenty of places to visit, from old plantation inns (like Montpelier, where Nelson was married in 1787, and The Hermitage), to funky beach bars (Double Deuce, Sunshine’s) and romantic restaurants set high in the rainforest (Golden Rock, Bananas).
There is tennis and an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr. championship golf course. Hiking, cycling and horse riding are easy to arrange, as well as scuba diving and kayaking. We can also organise fishing charters and day sails.
We can also arrange car hire for your stay. But please note: there are no traffic lights on Nevis
