Traditional French farmhouse full of charm - sleeps 13

Updated: 22-Oct-2016
Three bedrooms, three reception rooms, two bathrooms, kitchen + huge garden.

If you are looking for luxury and high tech - this property is not for you. What you will find here is lots of character, charm and space. We have owned this beautiful farmhouse for12 years and visit frequently. The majority of time is spent around the huge circular table that seats 12 comfortably. There is a very large log burning fire that men enjoy making and everyone enjoys sitting around. The kitchen runs alongside the dining room with a huge opening between the two, which means that whoever is cooking can still be part of the group. This works really well and there tends to be quite a few chefs in the kitchen, whilst the rest of the group relax by the fire and around the table. We deliberately have no phone or T.V. However, there is a room full of games to suit everyone. There is a large barn with a ping pong table that can be used even when it rains. There is a small pool table and also a table football. We have 5 bikes (one's a tandem). The front garden is totally private.

We can arrange evening meals on an ad hoc basis.

Hi Freddie

Just a note to thank you for our week in your farmhouse in Buire Le Sec. Claire was most helpful.

We loved your kitchen/dining area and our 'adult' children really appreciated the range of equipment they could use - especially the table-tennis and the trampoline. We indulged in fresh strawberries from along the road and, on Claire's advice, went along to the village fireworks on July 14th. For a rural community, they put on an amazing display! We also explored some of the beaches and the area - and took you up on the recommendation for Brasserie de la Plage in Merlimont! With many thanks, Alison.

Superb place for family holiday.

  • 5 of 5

Two families of five stayed here (4 adults and 6 kids) and it was one of our most enjoyable holidays helped by the house being ideally suited to us all. The kitchen and dining room were ideal, had everything we needed, the games room/sitting room was great although not used that much with people tending to prefer to sit around the large dining table and chat, eat, drink, play cards etc. The bathrooms were also ideal as were the bedrooms which had comfortable beds and really were only used for sleeping. We all went out and about every day of our fortnight, the beaches on four or five occasions, nearby Montreuil, Disneyland Paris and Arras among places we went. The gardens at front and back of the house were used a lot for barbeques, kids playing, there was a large trampoline that was popular, and enough space to play lots of games of badminton. The table tennis table was used quite a bit as well. The men and boy used the pool table only once and there was also a table football game which we didn't use. There were loads of games in the games room and some outside toys in the barn for the younger kids.

The house was generally very well maintained with everything working and was furnished nicely with a mixture of older and newer furniture and was not spotless with a few cobwebs here and there; a bit like our own houses in fact but could in no way be described as unclean. There was no TV or internet and this for all of us including our teenage children was a breath of fresh air; there are so many other ways to spend time than have your face in a screen! Parking outside the property was never a problem with room for three vehicles; we had two. There is a restaurant in the village that we visited once and would recommend and there are several other nearby villages with various shops and other amenities. The owner was very speedy and helpful in all correspondences, (Thank-you!) I would not hesitate in recommending this house as a holiday stay for families or anyone in fact.

Excellent for children in bad weather

  • 4 of 5

The farmhouse is very well set up for children of most ages, including a large trampoline which was very popular, and subutteo, as well as lots of other toys and games. It needs a TV screen & DVD player but luckily we took our own. No wifi was a real nuisance - granted the website warns of this. The bathrooms are pretty primitive with no shower curtains, and the house as a whole is clearly lived in and well-used by the owner and their families. The kitchen is reasonably functional for simple meals, with plenty of fridge space. The beds are hard but clean - and plenty of them! It smelt musty but that might have been partly because it was so wet. I've given a 4-star rating because the house was a godsend in a week of continuous heavy rain and with three over-active children. Otherwise I would say it merited 3 stars. The location is poor, on a main road and no shops or cafes nearby. The owner is accommodating and helpful, the guardienne next door was friendly. The Opal Coast is stunning of course, and there are quite a few activities for children along from Berck to Boulogne, especially the famed Nausicaa aquarium.

Well located farmhouse in lovely area

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights and explored this area of France as much as time allowed! The farmhouse is great for kids, a trampoline, loads of space for us all to spread out, a games room with ping pong table and a games room full of board games, AND a pool table! Certainly no time to miss the wifi and TV! It was lovely and hot so we had dinners outside. The farmhouse is very well equipped with everything you could need in a self catering house, thank you for letting us stay Freddie!

Great for a bunch of kids

  • 5 of 5

If you have kids aged 6 upwards like us, then this is the place for you. There were 5 kids (age 6-11) and 4 adults on our trip and it was the perfect holiday home. The completely enclosed outdoor spaces are huge and the kids can run amuck with no worries. It is close to some of the best ww1 memorial sites such as Vimy Ridge with it's reconstructed trenches and the 11,000 British graves at Etaples, as well as being only 20 mins from Agincort if you fancy a bit of older war history! We found everything we needed in the house ... Along with some items that we didn't realise we needed such as the tandem ... Gave the neighbours something to smile at. Table tennis tournaments took place while it was raining. One tip is that you might want to take your own set of snooker or pool balls. There is a great half size snooker table but we could only find a few balls to play with. But Perhaps there is a set somewhere that I couldn't find. There seems to be most things you could possibly want here. It is just as described in the particulars.

  • It is a farmhouse in a rural location, so there may be the odd spider or insect and it is a very old property that is kept clean, but will not be spic and span. The baths are very small and most people shower. We want to be as honest as possible regarding details of the farmhouse. I would say that our many friends who have stayed with us over the years have found it very relaxing and have enjoyed the surrounding area which has something to offer everybody. Our pricing is very low, so that we can attract new bookings. Similar properties are charging allot more, so please take this into consideration before leaving negative feedback. However, we would appreciate any constructive criticism, so that we can improve our service.
