Spokane, Wa.

Not as advertised!

  • 2 of 5

The Villa itself was nice enough but there was no heat until we complained. The temperature dropped to 6 Celsius and we froze, the caretaker provided small room heaters that broke after ten days and we were told we had to go without until they could be repaired! We complained to VRBO and in the third week of our stay the owner had an engineer fix the system, should have been done the first day. The advertised access to the fitness center was very misleading, first of all it would cost us an additional 200 euros and even then it was only the exercise room, the sauna and hot tub were not available. The knives were chipped, bent and so dull as to be useless. The utensils, pots and pans were broken, cracked and cheap to begin with. You can do much better elsewhere in Marrakech, keep looking.

Owner's Response: This review is headed not as advertised and is a total exaggeration by this client and a very unfair rating bearing in mind our last 10 reviews were 5*. To claim 6 degrees inside a villa in Marrakech does match the reality as indicated by weather charts. It was unfortunate that the heating system required attention which was sorted by our manager. The client chose not to use the log fire so we supplied additional temporary heaters. We do not advertise inclusive access to the fitness centre in the 5 star resort hotel. It can be used by clients but 200 euro?, in Morocco all prices are negotiable. We do not control the prices the hotel set but bear in mind the guests required 1 month membership for 2 persons. Natasha and I visit regularly and check all chipped plates and damaged items have been replaced by our manager and/or full time maid/cook.

The villa was better than I thought it would be. Big clean and well laid out. Lovely pool with a lush garden. Nice roof terrace where we had evening drinks. The BBQ provided was a great addition. Layla the maid cooked breakfast and did the cleaning. Hassan the driver was helpful in showing us around the city. If you fancy staying somewhere quiet but not far from the centre then I would highly recommend number 18. We liked it so much we are already planning our next trip.

a piece of calm and luxury

  • 5 of 5

The property is in a well-maintained estate; the houses and the gardens are carefully maintained and a 24/7 security service is also provided.

The house has the best location on the estate (very close to the main entrance) and a plot with far reaching views. The sunsets are achingly beautiful and they can be enjoyed either from the patio or from the spacious roof terrace. About the house: this is a spacious, comfortable house that has been converted into a luxurious retreat: the furniture and the furnishing are superb. The garden is well looked after and it is a delight so see so much variety of shrubs, roses, trees. The pool was a pleasant addition (again, well-maintained) and inside the house you can even put a log fire on. In the house we enjoyed the set up: each bedroom had its own bathroom and we could always gather in the lounge or on the patio. The kitchen is well equipped, so one can cook, but I loved the meals offered by the housekeeper (she offers breakfast and evening meals as well). She prepared local dishes which were very tasty.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the tranquillity and the luxury of the place and would recommend it to become their base-point for exploring Marrakesh, the Red City or the mountains. Perfect for a family gathering, chill-out or a private party…

A great stay at 18 Apple Gardens

  • 5 of 5

We'd planned a late getaway to Marrakesh, hopefully for some sun and culture and to stay in a private villa, and we were certainly not disappointed on any count. We had a week 14-21 November, during which the sun shone and we had fantastic trips out into the mountains and into Marrakech, and just lazing in the sunshine in the quiet of this wonderful villa.

Our stay in Villa 18 was efficiently handled throughout, by the UK-based owners, and on arrival by the local manager (who speaks very good English), and throughout by the lovely maid/cook and a trusted driver. Layla prepared scrumptious Moroccan breakfasts for us on most mornings, and prepared several local-themed meals for us to have later at dinner. Hassan our private driver met us at the airport as scheduled, paused at a supermarket enroute to Apple Gardens so we could pick up some drinks and snacks, and on two days that week took us on interesting trips into the Atlas mountains and into Marrakech Medina - he drove safely and never made us feel uncomfortable.

The villa itself is a joy, exactly as expected from the description and photographs - it is clean, spacious and well equipped with a roof seating area and private pool that was maintained daily, set in a spacious well-maintained garden. There is also a fine boutique hotel on the resort, serving a very nice array of lunch and dinner menus, which made for a special location on an occasion whilst we were there. The whole Apple Gardens resort is secured and we felt very safe there (actually we felt very safe all over Marrakech - sellers in the Souks can be a bit pushy of course but haggling is expected - it's all pretty light hearted). So, walking in the grounds between the villa and the hotel was fine, even on a dark evening.

All in all we enjoyed a great week and highly recommend this villa and the services of the staff that are associated with it ...

“The entire family loved this place

  • 5 of 5

This was a last minute holiday (technically our honeymoon but with 2 teenagers!)...Arranging the rental was extremely easy and the owner sent us a comprehensive information pack with suggested activities and other useful items (this came in very handy with teenagers!). The owner arranged the airport transfer (Hassan the friendly taxi driver was there waiting for us) and after an entertaining drive through early evening Marrakech traffic we arrived at the villa. We were greeted by the maid and the manager who made us very welcome (the villa was filled with fresh flowers for my wife as a gift from the manager which was a very nice gesture! I wish I could have taken credit for that!!).

This particular villa is probably the best located on the entire complex...It is very private / secluded (open views to the rear, has car parking space near to it and gets the sun in the right places at the right time! Basically that means the pool area / patio eating area can be used all day and in the evenings you can sit out on the roof terrace (very romantic) and watch the sunset over the Atlas mountains.

If you are renting this villa we recommend you hire the maid (not expensive) as she personally looked after us like her own family (massive breakfasts with homemade pancakes, crumpets, eggs, local bread, honey, mint tea, more crumpets, more pancakes, every morning which got bigger and bigger until we realized that we need to leave a little bit of food on the plate!). The maid also prepared the evening meals (she has a little Moroccan cook book which you just point out the meal you want...wonderful chicken / lamb tagines, salads and BBQ's). The maid also does the usual stuff like cleaning, washing clothes (the villa has a washing machine) which made our stay very relaxed (no housework for week!).

My 2 teenage children made 'full' use of the pool and local amenities / shop.

The villa itself is very spacious, well equipped / comfortable with modern / traditional furniture. It has a large tv, satellite, ipod player, etc. (we rarely used these as spent most time outside). Each bedroom is large, well furnished and has a separate bathroom, the lounge and dining area are comfortable (didn't use this much as outside mostly!). The outdoor dining area was well used however!

Eine Oase vor den Toren Marrakechs

  • 5 of 5

Top !
