About this property

Maison Les Pommiers, 5 bedrooms, great charm/character in quiet village

The house is a spacious 17th century stone house on two floors. From the front courtyard you enter straight into a wonderful large kitchen/dining room. The old flagstones and massive beams make it a superb setting for dining in the evening and in the cooler months is nice and cosy with an Esse woodburning stove/cooker. At the far end is a well-equipped kitchen with a gas cooker and everything you would expect to have at home. The window looks out on to a sunny terrace for outdoor dining in the warmer months. An oak spiral staircase leads up to the splendid sitting room with antique floor-boards and magnificent Burgundian fireplace with wood burner.
The two double bedrooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor both have lovely views over the garden. The double downstairs has an ensuite shower room. Next door is a bedroom with two single beds which is probably more suited for children . In between is the downstairs loo. Upstairs the fourth bedroom has twin beds plus a child's bed. A single folding bed and two travel cots are also available. The upstairs bathroom has a bath/shower and loo. The fifth bedroom with a double bed is in the garden and was the old chicken house! It is a lovely romantic place to escape to or could be a handy teenage bolthole.in the barn close by is the laundry/salle de bain with shower, toilet and washing machine.
The garden is an oasis of peace with plenty of shade under the apple trees to disappear with a book or snooze in the hammock. Swings, trampoline, tabletennis, bicycles and barbecue available.

The village: Dancevoir is a quiet village set in the Aube valley, with its rolling hills mostly covered with forest. The stream run through the village (children love fishing for tiddlers!) and it is delightful to walk along to the playground or further on to the Auberge where delicious Alsacian meals are served. The house is opposite the church and the quiet is regularly punctuated by the chiming of the hours. The village shop for basic groceries and bread and croissants is only 5 minutes walk.

Activites: The area is due to become a National Park for Forests. There are limitless possibilities for walking and cycling either along the quiet country roads or along forest tracks. Nearby lakes proved plenty of opportunity for swimming and other water sports.
There is a lovely old Pleyel grand piano upstairs in the Salon which is in good condition having been restored. It is available by agreement but is otherwise kept locked. The acoustics are excellent for chamber music.

For those wanting to explore Abbeys and Chateaux there is plenty to see. There are excellent museums nearby including a knife museum at Nogent, La Grande Forge de Buffon (dates from 1768) and la Musee de Chatillonais in nearby Chatillon with a stunning bronze vase. For artists the Renoir museum at Essoye where he spent his last years is a must. The magnificent cities of Troyes, Dijon and Beaune make a good days outing. The daily market at Troyes is excellent for food and local produce.
Alternatively sample the wines in the local vineyards where the 'Cremant' (similar to Champagne but much cheaper) shouldn't be missed! For those who must have Champagne the route du champagne is les than an hours drive away.

We had a great week in les Pommiers. The house is perfect for a nice family stay in the countryside of the Haute Marne.

Rain
A week of rain did not help - the whole experience of the house and locality would have been better in the sunshine. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed our stay.

A very nice property in a pretty village
We enjoyed our stay in Dancevoir. The Bar/Tabac has a shop for bread and croissant in the mornings and a good supermarket is only 10 mins or so away. We visited Dijon, Chaumont and Troyes which we have had overnight stays at in transit in previous holidays so it was good to have time to explore. There are some nice walks around the village on quiet roads and paths but my grand daughter may not have appreciated them as much with the intention to get her to sleep!

Large house, full of authentic French charm in a good location with a lovely orchard garden.
This large house was well equipped, in fact so well eqipped we had a job finding storage space for our own provisions! Excellent parking and in a very good location. The large garden was lovely and private. Lots of things to see and do in the area. There was a spiral wooden staircase up to the living room up so people with mobility issues may find this a problem. We loved our stay in this lovely old house.

A fabulous location and house with superb facilities - exceeded our expectations by far
We have just returned from a two week stay at Les Pommiers and have had a wonderful holiday. The property is located in a beautiful village in the Haute Marne region which was a tranquil and unspoilt area that we have just discovered. The property was superbly kitted out with everything we could have wished for to accommodate all 9 of us staying with ages ranging from 3 to 68 years old. The bikes provided allowed the children to cycle all over the village and area without concern, frequently wild swimming in the local water holes which was a favourite activity. The garden of the house was stunning and we ate outside for every meal each day. We picked apples from the trees and ate tomatoes and squash from the garden too. The wildlife in the area was abundant from birds of prey to deer and foxes to lots of swallows and butterflies in the garden. Local areas of interest are easily accessible nearby, we especially enjoyed Langres despite the 37 degree heat that day and the Lake Liez nearby with its giant inflatable. We could not have wished for a better holiday home and thank you to the owners who made the whole experience a fabulous one. We were not ready to return home!

Nicola is a Newzealander, Nick was born in St.Albans. We live in Twickenham and have two daughters currently at college/university. We are both musicians and love gardening and walking/cycling.Nick has a passion for apples.

Why they chose this property

We bought the house in a completely unplanned way having received an email about it being for sale from the previous owner. We totally fell in love with the house with its huge fireplaces and beams and the peaceful garden with apple trees. Nicola loves the open spaces in France which remind her of New Zealand.

What makes this property unique

It is the peace and quiet we love, being able to sit in the sunny courtyard even in October and eat breakfast in the sunshine. You can often hear the sound of nuthatches and woodpeckers. The area is perfect for walking and cycling because the roads and tracks are so free from traffic. We love the cycle to the next village (Lignerolles) where there is a great picnic spot by the river, or if it is hot cycle to the swimming hole at the other end of the village.
