5 stars villa de vacances magnifique- tout confort- de 4 à 10 personnes

Updated: 17-Oct-2016
Luxurious villa - all confort- from 4 to 10 personns

« Les Maisons d’Antan » (i.e. the houses of days gone) , classificated five stars by the tourism Ministry, consist of two dwellings dating back to the 18th century. They were built in traditional stones and slates of the region and Isabelle Hossein totally renovated and refurbished them. She enhanced the feeling of intimacy and privacy that emanates from the place and gave a new touch to the different rooms though respecting the regional spirit that is present in a monumental fireplace for instance. At the same time, a regional renowned landscape gardener designed the gardens. The property is near the capital of prehistory, les Eyzies de Tayac, whitch is listed by Unesco World Heritage of Humanity. Here was born the science of prehistory, thanks to excavations that started in 1863 and last until today. The cave paintings of Lascaux, a unique presentation of prehistoric art, displays Cro Magnon's life as hunter and artist, as warrior and painter, an inestimable insig

Little piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

This place was definetley a little piece of paradise in France. The property was spectacular, all the rooms well kept and the decor was fresh but in keeping with the area. Having the pool was an absolute bonus as the sun was shining for our whole stay. Lovely and quite in the evenings, great to have a BBQ and a few drinks with your friends / family on the terrace with plenty on laughs had. But if you wanted a quiet night in your room you felt like you were in a little world of your own.

St Gènies a half hour walk or 5 minute drive was gorgeous, especially the Sunday food market and the evening market on the Wednesday where you can eat with the locals and try some of the local cuisine, Devine :0)

Sarlat, a 15 minute drive away is a wonderful medieval town whe you can soak up the atmosphere sat in one of the bars / restaurants and just watch life pass you by.

Canoeing on the Dordogne is a must, spectacular views and lovely to be on the water in the heat. You can go as fast or as slow as you like and it's great with a group of friends.

Just a fantastic place to visit...and we will hopefully return at some point in the future.

Idyllic French Stay

  • 5 of 5

A perfect retreat for a large group of friends. We couldn't fault the beautiful interiors where no one drew the short straw with their bedroom and en suite bathroom. The grounds were equally well thought through offering space to be together or apart. The kitchen was well equipped and the extra fridge freezer very helpful. The pool was lovely and had a machine to keep it clean throughout our stay.

Close to a village with a boulangerie and charcuterie which we used regularly. There was also the night market on Wednesday evening which was a treat and the Sunday market full of local produce and wares.

Sarlat is 15 minutes drive away with a reasonably large supermarket and cheaper petrol. The town is gorgeous and old with it's own fabled markets (which we didn't quite make it to,) and street entertainers and artists.

We would return again and again but would want two weeks to really discover the area more.

Florence (housekeeper) and her husband were attentive and helpful but did not encroach.

We were so sad to leave!

Beautiful Property, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Not one for reviews but this is a place that absolutely deserves to be talked up. Where to start? Being a party of 9 adults this property caters not only for being able to eat together and provides ample sun lingers to relax but is also set out in a way that we still managed to find quiet time away from eachother. All of the 5 bedrooms has its own self contained private floor with bathroom (some showers, some baths) and storage meaning no queues when getting ready! A brisk walk away (around a mile and a half) is St Genie with its Sunday market and food market on a Wednesday evening where you can turn up, eat great local produce on shared tables with the locals. The Dordogne is a 30 minute drive away for canoeing and another beautiful town Sarlat is within 15 mins. The location is perfect if you wish to relax and guzzle the local wine as we did in abundance. You will need a car for visits to the local supermarket but this property is absolutely worth it. Well equipped with everything you need, our group were very sad to leave. We would go back in a flash, a little gem full of character and charm.

Secluded luxurious property with rustic French charm

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week at this property. It has been renovated to a very high standard and the layout of the buildings and the grounds mean there are lots of little corners and areas to occupy as well as large social spaces. The property was very well equipped with towels and inflatables for swimming and everything you would need in the kitchen. We had two young children with us and the fact that the grounds where all closed off and the pool gated made it feel very safe. When we had a slight issue with the shower we called Florence - who was lovely - and the problem was sorted straight away. There a great bakery 10 minutes down the road too and the pretty village of St Genies less than 5 minutes drive - great market on a Sunday morning.

The property is very well located and there is lots to do fairly close by although we had 3 days just relaxing by the pool. There is a lake resort 10 minutes away - the water was almost warm and we had a great swim there and had the place almost to ourselves. Sarlat is close by as is Beynac and fantastic gardens which are well worth a visit.

Had a wonderful stay in he Dordoynes in a lovely old farmhouse

  • 4 of 5

Stayed in a 500 year old farmhouse and although being in the country still had great accessibility to towns where we could eat out and explore.

Only thing we didn't like was the smell of the farm animals some nights. Would suggest they put fans in the house as on some nights it was

very hot. Lovely pool and good laundry facilities. Also enjoyed the barbeque.

Perigord Paradise

  • 5 of 5

These stunning houses in St Genies are a must for those seeking a relaxing sunny break with family (5 good double bedrooms). We spent a week here during a hot July and loved every minute.

Like a mini walled town, the two properties are set behind their own large gate with a central courtyard, large garden, plenty of lounging space and a lovely heated pool.

The entire set up is enclosed and was really safe for the three children in our extended family - who spent most of their waking hours under / in the water - and spacious and relaxing for the adults. Both houses have been beautifully renovated and there's ample space inside and out for lazy days and wine filled nights.

Our routine involved trips to the shops for patisseries in the morning (short drive to St Genies, get there before there good stuff is gone and they close for a nap!) and then a daily, larger, grocery run to the bigger town of Montignac (larger and pretty village nestled in a river valley with fun mini-golf for kids nearby) about 15 mins away to stock up for our outdoor barbecue dinners. Worth a chat with the chap in the wine shop to get the best local tipples. We also visited nearby Sarlat - beautiful but overcrowded on market day even early in the season.

Good facilities in the property and great to have WiFi in the house to keep in touch with civilisation as needed but this is really a chance to get away from it all and enjoy the Perigord Noir countryside and all it has to offer (foie gras; confit de canard!).

The cockerel next door, the bug life and the shortage of fans in the house to cool the hot summer nights haven't put us off and we've already booked again for the same week next year! Can't wait.

we would most definitely recommend staying at Maison d'Antan to our friends. The house and the surrounding towns and villages are beautiful. The region has many interesting places to visit and things to do. The markets in St. Genies and Sarlat were wonderful. It made us feel part of the town rather than just passing through.

Our stay at Maison d'Antan was fabulous. The setting is private and lovely and the house fully equipped making us feel as though we were in our own home....We had a fantastic two weeks with family from 10 years to 49! We really did not need to go anywhere as it was comfortable at Les Maisons d’Antan.
