Our recently restored stone farmhouse is in a peaceful location on the edge of the famous village of La Roque Gageac. There's plenty of space for an extended family - Large dining family kitchen with exposed beams and stone (range cooker, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave) - 25' lounge overlooking the pool with exposed beams (WIFI, freesat TV, DVD/CD player, ipod dock) - 3 bedrooms [ 2 double (1 with en-suite bathroom), 1 twin - 2 shower rooms (hairdryers)- laundry room (washing machine). The house has secluded gardens set below an impressive cliff with its own cave and spring, lovely woodland views and a vine-covered dining area with a barbeque. There's a 10 x 5 meter pool with a large decking terrace, a gravelled area to the front for playing boules etc.and a grassy area at the back. The property is on the edge of several beautiful woodland walks with breathtaking views. There's space for 4 cars.

Superb holiday home in an idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place to stay if you want easy access to the wealth of activities on offer around this area of the Dordogne but hidden away from the main drag so you feel like you're in your own little piece of paradise. The house is spacious and clean with everything you could possibly need in a holiday home. The owners were very friendly and helpful and quick to react to any questions we had. Our family loved everything about this place and we hope to return again!

Fabulous family country house

  • 5 of 5

Great country house in small but gorgeous village. Beautiful setting, relaxing in nature. Pool is great for kids. Lots of space for families in both shared living space and 5 bedrooms. Has Great kitchen and terrace for family meals and gatherings. Near medieval castles and towns, canoeing and hiking and local markets, can walk into town for boulangerie or dinner. Town is very quiet at night- 1 great restaurant for a special occasion- book a table in advance.

Owner's Response: Always great to hear that the place we love has been enjoyed by other families. You often have to book in advance for one of the restaurants but will always find somewhere nice to eat any night in one of the other six.

Magical place

  • 5 of 5

A lovely home in a charming location. From arrival to departure we were thrilled with the convenience and location of the property. You can relax by the pool, have a snack on the lovely veranda off the kitchen or lounge in the spacious family room with a beautiful view of the pool and gardens. There are many activities in easy day trip distance or you can just enjoy the beauty of La Roque. The house is roomy and very well equipped and the location is perfect. We would absolutely return.

Peaceful retreat with easy access to the sights

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a two glorious weeks with three generations of family who all enjoyed the house, pool and local area. There were seven of us so there was plenty of room. In fact there were two more beds than we were expecting. We enjoyed walking into the village for bread and to eat at the local restaurants - and then being able to retreat back to the calm of La Croze. (We would recommend La Belle Etoile to foodies - pricy but worth it.) We particularly appreciated the huge fridge in the kitchen and the additional drinks fridge in the utility room. The barbecue was also a welcome addition. It was lovely to sit out after a meal in the evening under the stars. We managed to pack in canoeing (would recommend being dropped off up river to allow you to canoe back at your own pace and not have to wait for a pick-up), a visit to the chateau at Castelnaud, also a walk across the fields to Castelnaud and lunch at the slighlty eccentric but delicious tapas restaurant, La Tournepique, a trip down the river on a Gabarre (interesting English audio guide available), a visit to the Jardins de Marqueyssac (fantastic views over the river) and a trip to Domme on market day. Otherwise we were happy to laze around the house, eating, drinking, reading, swimming and using the very reliable wifi. David and Erika were very welcoming and helpful before and during our stay. All in all, a great holiday in a lovely villa in a stunning part of France.

A wonderful pace to relax

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday here, enjoying the French countryside in the Autumn sun. The house is secluded yet only a 10 minute walk into the pretty village of La Rocque Gageac where there are some lovely restaurants and a ready supply of breakfast croissants from the local bakery!

The house is clean, well equipped and spacious, with both an upstairs lounge and a traditional French Kitchen/dining area to relax in. Outside we enjoyed, sipping our wine under the vines laden with grapes, relaxing by and of course swimming in the pool.

We found it to be an ideal location to base ourselves, visiting Sarlat, Domme, Castlenaud. There were plenty of nice walks which could incorporate a stop for a leisurely lunch. The highlight for us was a cycle to St Cyprien, along the river, with again a stop for lunch!

The owners were very helpful and really the house had a nice feel to it, more like a home. We would recommend this house without hesitation.

Owner's Response: Glad to hear you had a nice time. We also love to cycle from the house, either on our tandem or individual bikes but almost always with the incentive of a nice meal or a glass of wine at one of the lovely wee restaurants.

A really superb location only a short stroll from La Roque Gageac - one of 'France's most beautiful villages'. Here you'll find the genteel bustle of several good restaurants, cafes, gift-shops and boulangerie. Without driving you can take a leisurely boat trip, hire a canoe, visit caves or play tennis. Enjoy breathtaking views over the valley to Castelnaud from the village's medieval cobbled paths and have a pichet of local wine overlooking the river. In addition the house is within 5 miles of the most visited sites in the Dordogne. The beautiful medieval town of Sarlat with its markets and festivals is 4 miles away. Even closer are the bastide village of Domme and the castles of les Milandes (of Josephine Baker fame), Marqueyssac (lovely gardens), Castelnaud (with its museum of medieval warfare) and Beynac. A network of beautiful paths makes the area a walking and cycling paradise. The Vezere valley - with its world-famous prehistory sites such as Lascaux - is only 15 miles away

Other Activities: Canoeing, caving, hot air ballooning, paintballing, boat trips, wine-tasting
