About the property

The 'Casa del Pozzo' occupies a dominant position on its hillside

This accommodation will offer you a charming and unforgettable setting for an ideal vacation. You will find in it all the rustic charm and captivating elegance of Residenza Strozzi and will be taken by the sights and smells of the elegant hillsides of Corbignano: the perfect window on the famous “Tuscan lifestyle”.

It is about 100 mq large, on two levels: on the ground floor there is a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom, a living room and a dining room that overlooks a close, private and large courtyard with the well (il pozzo), plants and flowers, tables where you can have breakfast or dinner, chairs, sun chairs, BBQ. Here you can rest and enjoy the privacy and the peace of the beautiful countryside with olive trees, cypresses and pine trees.

On the first floor there are two bedrooms with view on Florence and another bathroom.

Easy access to city centre by bus, safe and free parking available, ten minutes from the centre of Florence, and the views are pure Tuscan.

Casa del Pozzo is situated in Corbignano on the hill of Settignano in the area east of Florence. Settignano, a small village in the striking location of the Florentine hills, has its origins in the legend of its founder, Settimio Severo, Roman Emperor. From the Renaissance on, Settignano has been inhabited by many stone cutters who work the local limestone.

The workshops of the stone carvers of Settignano and Corbignano like those of Benedetto da Maiano or Desiderio of Settignano, produced many precious works of art, like Michelangelo who lived here in his youth. Casa del Pozzo is located along the path of the stone cutters, an ancient path that the cutters used to go back and forth to the quarries of Maiano.

Today Corbignano is completed immersed in the Fiorentine suburb, and is part of the ANPIL of Mensola (Natural Protected Area of Local Interest), rich in itineraries of art and nature and trekking trails. This territory offers characteristic landscapes of silent, rolling hills, dotted with olive groves and groups of cypress trees that surround the many historical villas built on its hill.

Settignano has always been considered the perfect place for periods of rest, study, and meditation. Many famous Italians and foreigners were born or have lived here like Giovanni Boccaccio, Niccolò Tommaseo, Raffaello Morghen, Gabriele D’Annunzio, Eleonora Duse, Aldo Palazzeschi, Telemaco Signorini, Augusto Novelli, Leo Stein, Bernardo Berenson, and Mark Twain.

Casa del Pozzo: a medieval unspoiled single house in Florence. Breathtaking view
average rating of 5.0 based on 5 reviews

My sister & I, both of whom are seniors, stayed at the wonderful Casa del Pozzo. The location is within a small group of homes that were home to stonecutters during the Medieval Ages. The interior has been thoughtfully & artistically preserved in it's ancient charm, with all modern day amenities that one would need for a short or long stay. The beds are comfortable & the showers have plenty of hot water & pressure. The kitchen has windows to the outside patio where the old well stands. Such a lovely view while cooking up one's nightly pasta. To get to the bus stop to get into Florence, one must walk first through a walled walk & then through open fields of ancient buildings & churches high up in the hills & fields of olive trees. Imagine the most lovely movie views ever. With you in them. And with the church bells ringing in the hills as you trek back up to the house late afternoon. This lovely lodging has the best of what can be combined in a trip to Tuscany. The beauty of the countryside hills with fast access to the center of Florence. The proprietor Guido is a charming, respectful & gracious host. Molte grazie to him many times over.

Living in a medieval house in Tuscany.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful two week stay at this rental home in Tuscany. It is very cozy/comfortable and had everything we needed. It is about at 15-20 minute walk to the bus and the buses run frequently. The ancient walk to the bus is wonderful! It is the perfect home base when in Florence and easy access to the surrounding area. Guido was very accommodating and helpful. I would stay here again.

L'émotion de vivre dans une maison si ancienne.

  • 5 of 5

Une maison bien décorée et bien équipée, propre. Le calme. Le plaisir de prendre le petit déjeuner dans la cour traditionnelle. Proche des transports en commun (20 minutes du centre de Florence).

Je recommanderai cette location à mes proches.

The hill of Settignano, behind our back, preserves some of the most attractive Florentine villas (Villa Gamberaia with its magical Italian-style garden, Villa I Tatti seat of the Harvard University centre for the Italian Renaissance studies, Villa Michelangiolo where the creator of the David and Pietà once lived.

Wonderful walks lead towards Settignano, Corbignano and, through of wood of cypresses, as so far as Fiesole; all you must see here, the many art cities of Tuscany, is less than 1 hour by car or by train.
