Country villa with beautiful garden and sea view

Overview

Property

Updated: 03-Dec-2016
Big veranda overlooking the sea, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, with shower, barbecue

Villa Anna is immersed in the Sicilian countryside and enjoys the beautiful views of the crystal blue Mediterranean Sea.

This rustic house, tastefully decorated and with functional spaces, consists of two bedrooms (one double, one with twin beds); a bathroom with shower; a bright living room and a nice kitchen.

The highlight of the property is the huge outdoor space: two beautiful wooden verandas surround the house and from here it will be possible to enjoy the fresh air and the landscape with the sea in the distance, and heavenly peace of the countryside.

Guests can also take advantage of the outside kitchen with wood-burning oven for pizzas, made of brick and covered by a picturesque wooden canopy.

It’s therefore the perfect place to enjoy a holiday of contact with nature, far from the chaos of the city, an excellent base for exploring the many wild places and nature reserves that this area of our beautiful island has to offer!

Amazing view and a peaceful place

  • 5 of 5

The villa is lost in the middle of nowhere. The view is just fantastic and the 2 terraces are very comfortable. The internal space is small for 5 people but it's not really a problem in the summer.

wonderful property in a very charming area

  • 5 of 5

From the house you have magnificent views of the sea and the area is absolutely calm, relaxing and charming. The house is very clean, the terrace and garden are very well kept. The description of the house is accurate and the pictures representative. The property has very friendly owners who were always available for us for questions and help. They prepared a welcome package for us with fruits, homemade honey and sweets and they set up the pizza oven for us when we asked how to use it. Beds are comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped. It was fun to use the outside kitchen with the pizza oven. We definitely recommend this property and would love to return sometime, just be aware that the drive to the property is challenging with a standard rental car.

The perfect rural escape by the sea

  • 5 of 5

Villa Anna was everything we'd hoped for - quiet, private, beautiful views, pretty garden, superb night skies and surprisingly comfortable - and on top of this, the most generous, charming and solicitous owners, as others have said. We recommend it wholeheartedly.

It is about 15 mins from the town of Ribera, with half the drive being down a fairly rough, often steep but drivable track. Don't let this put you off because it leads you a really special place.

The villa has everything you need including reliable wi-fi and a great fridge freezer and some of it, like the outside oven, can be charmingly quirky. The outside space offers plenty of eating and lounging options with great views in and out of sun and breezes. The sea here is a 15 min country walk away.

The beach here is not great but there are wonderful deserted sandy beaches in pristine countryside just a short drive south. (Take the short cut to the main coast road by turning right at the end of the rough track.) The area is perfect for birders. We saw bee eaters, golden orioles and squacco herons and heard stone curlews and nightingales.

Ribera has convenient Lidl and Eurospin supermarkets and a very good baker on the left just before the bridge into town. The top two Tripadvisor restaurants in the town are well worth a visit and conveniently placed for the villa.

Lovely setting!

  • 5 of 5

The villa is situated well away from anyone else down a long drive (car necessary). It was spotlessly clean and surrounded by it own grounds and extensive patios, so you could always get away from the wind or the sun. Easiest to eat outdoors - two places to do that! Much appreciated the home made marmalade, limoncello and olive oil - also given a load of fresh oranges, pastries and arancini - could have just done with the address of where to buy some more!! We never found the bakery.....! Owner friendly and helpful - met us and drove with us to the villa which was kind. Recommended if you want to be away from it all for a peaceful break. Thank you for letting us stay, and for your hospitality.

Une absolue tranquillité

  • 5 of 5

Merci encore !

Villa Anna is characterized by an excellent position and a lovely landscape combined with the quietness of a rural and cosy house not far from some beach paradises. It is located in Ribera, a nice village which rises on a wide hill nearby Agrigento and famous for its international oranges production, so that it is known as “City of oranges” all over Europe.

Ribera is surrounded by gorgeous, uncontaminated and also unknown beach places; their long, white, sandy beaches will take your breath away! Some of them are natural reserves thanks to their beauty and their wildlife conservation.

One of the most beautiful is “Foce del Fiume Platani”, a protected area between Borgo Bonsignore and Capo Bianco, whose calcareous cliffs rise up marking the landscape incomparably. This area is characterized by sandy dunes, mouth zones, hill landscapes and Mediterranean wood that blend harmoniously each other.

“Torre Salsa” is another natural masterpiece, located between Siculiana Marina and Eraclea Minoa. Its peculiarity are the chalk and clay cliffs and the very bright sea, whose bottom is marked by a rich blooming flora and fauna. The six kilometers of wild nature encompass jagged shores, golden and secluded beaches, sandy dunes and uncontaminated paths which will fascinate sea and nature lovers. Furthermore you can admire the old famous sighting tower that dominates the top of a little promontory in the very centre of this oasis.

What you mustn’t miss is “Scala dei Turchi”, a singular white cliff made by limestone and clay which rises along the coast of Realmonte and overlooks a crystalline sea. Its name comes from the Turkish invasions. According to an old legend, the Saracens got there from the sea and climbed the cliff until the top; once there, they attacked the local people. It has became a tourist attraction for its particular color and shape; wind and rain have modeled it throughout the time, creating a huge natural staircase whose lines are rounded and irregular. Its white rocks look brighter thanks to the sun light and the water is incredibly clear.. it’s a paradise!

THE VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES - AGRIGENTO

The Valley of the Temples is one of the most suggestive attraction of Sicily. It rises in the southern part of the old city and is considered the biggest archaeological park in the world. Among a blooming almond trees countryside, the wonderful ruins of the temples, whose architectural majesty is still intact, will fascinate you.

This archaeological marvel consists of eight temples built in the 5th century BC: the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Heracles, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the Temple of Hephaestos, the Temple of Demeter, and the Temple of Asclepius (the God of Medicine). The last one is situated on the banks of the Akragas river, all the others are in the same area on a rocky scarp in the southern modern Agrigento.

The Valley of the Temples is the most sublime evidence of the Greek civilization in Sicily until today and it has been an Unesco world heritage site since 1998.

Villa Mara will offer you this and a lot more. You will experience the emotion of a special vacation combing the typical rustic quietness, magic landscapes, sea and natural paradises but also marvelous cultural routes.

SCIACCA – BATHS AND CARNIVAL

Sciacca rises on a famous archaeological place between Selinunte and Agrigento; it is the oldest baths resort of Sicily and one of the biggest town in the south-eastern coast. It is a tourist destination not only for its gorgeous coasts, but also for its Baths and its famous Carnival.

The spa resorts of Sciacca have been famous since antiquity. All its people know the legend telling that Daedalus, expert in labyrinths, was able to channel the hot vapors coming from the fissures of the rock and use them for baths. Very famous are the natural steam caves of St. Calogero, its healthiness attracts not only baths followers but also people who suffer from osteoarthritis and respiratory disease.

One of the most beautiful and oldest carnival in Sicily and Italy takes places in Sciacca; there are six days of celebration with featuring impressive allegorical parades. The atmosphere is full of color, pure fun and cheerfulness, everyone takes part in celebrations.

By tradition, Peppe Nappa, the mask symbol of Sciacca Carnival, opens the celebrations by giving out sweets, sausages and wine to everybody and closes them with its stake.

Sciacca boasts a substantial production of grapes, cereals, olives, and citrus fruits. The town also has conspicuous fishing resources. The handicraft activity is especially characterized by the production of artistic ceramics and wooden objects.
