Mellview Cottage 18th - 25th June 2010.

We felt instantly relaxed and happy on entering the cottage. it's country location is outstanding. Fittings and furniture are of excellent quality, absolutely everything is provided. On arriving back each evening at around 6pm the deck is facing west, so a great place to totally relax in the sun and look out for rabbits & red squirrels in the gardens. After dinner, the country roads are so quiet a final walk in the beautiful countryside was very worthwhile especially as it never appeared to go dark until around 10.30. The owner also provided us with a week of outstanding weather, sunny and warm almost every day, but we're sure he will not be able to guarantee this for every week of the year.

Nestled on the lower slopes of Little Mell Fell, in the parish of Matterdale, this 200 year old cottage was once an agricultural building constructed from local stone and wood. Located in a peaceful valley within the Lake District National Park, just 15 minutes from the M6, the cottage offers a wonderfully tranquil setting but with excellent access to all that the North Lakes has to offer. Ullswater, the most beautiful of the lakes, lies a couple of miles away with opportunities for boating, sailing and fishing. The bustling market towns of Penrith and Keswick are a 15 minute drive away. Matterdale is an area of outstanding natural beauty and for the energetic there are walks from the door to explore this enchanting corner of the Lake District. A selection of traditional country pubs serving good food can be found within a few miles.
