We've listed it under Villas because this is the closest match, confirmed by some of the major Caribbean villa rental agencies. "Ouanalao" is unique in St. Barts vacation lodging in that it's a single unit situated as part of a new (2018) occupied larger luxury villa, not part of a complex. It offers good privacy, independent access, full European comfort, a breathtaking million-dollar view and its own 23 ft (7m) heated (in winter) swimming pool with in-water bench (banquette) to maximize the endless ocean view. Large wrap-around terrace, outdoor relaxing, grilling and dining (6-8 seat teak / wicker outdoor dining set). Approx. 1,800 sq. ft / 170 m2 of usable, enjoyable indoor and outdoor space. (This calculation includes the pool.)

Pool: An incredible rectangular pool in front of the living room and first bedroom (7m L x 2.6m W x 1.5 m D). In-water banquette for maximizing enjoyment of the endless ocean view.

Ouanalao is a near the D210 road from Gustavia and the Airport to Colombier, after the turns for Anse des Flamands (right) and Corossol (left). It's further down the local road (chemin communal) from the La Petite Colombe Boulangerie - Patisserie - Traiteur (where you may procure your delectable breakfast croissants and pastries) and before the first major ascent towards the top of Colombier. It's quietly nestled off the road, yet a short and easy drive from Gustavia or the Airport in St. Jean. Perched high above the hills overlooking Flamands Beach, here you'll find privacy and solitude. The villa apartment has a separate entrance and parking from the main villa above. It has good sound proofing and the terrace is privacy-protected from the rest of the structure.

Nearby beaches are Flamands (excellent sunbathing), Anse des Cayes (good for surfing), Colombier (also called Rockefeller Beach for historical reasons; requires a nature hike and worth every step) and St. Jean (water sports, sunbathing, airplane e spotting, Nikki Beach Club, Eden Rock Hotel). Road is safe and popular for walking and jogging.

Close to shopping in St. Jean (groceries - Marché U, bank ATM (BRED), La Parapharmacie and other essentials) and Gustavia's delights (duty free luxury stores such as Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Bulgari, Prada, Dolce e Gabbana, Voila St Barth for sailors; local boutiques; more banks; bars and restaurants; marina and ferry ; morning fish market - often fresh langouste).

Ouanalao is on the ground floor of a larger, occupied new luxury villa. It offers magnificent unobstructed views over Flamands Beach, the uninhabited Îles Chevreau (billy goat), Frégate and Toc Vers, the marine preserve, and towards the south the roofs of the white super-luxury villas of Pointe Milou.

And most of all, the endless deep sapphire blue of the open Atlantic. It's at this point of St. Barthélemy that the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic - land's end until Africa to the Northeast (Mauritania, 4,300km / 2,700 mi). Here your cares quickly dissolve as you watch the infinite variety of billowing cloud formations. If the Atlantic view is blue but hazy, that's probably the extremely fine Saharan sand in the atmosphere. Don't be surprised if the overnight wind deposits a few grains on the terrace. Let your spirit be transported as well.

At Ouanalao you'll enjoy inspiring, peaceful sunrises over the Atlantic. Every morning bestows a different miracle. At day's end as the sun sets from the St. Martin side of the island, Colombier casts its shadow on the uninhabited, protected islands facing you, revealing subtle changes in character. Then, at the far end of Flamands, sunlight and clouds reflected on the water create a rare, delicate dance of sea angels, typically between 5:30 and 6:30pm.

Soon this magic potion of sun, breathtaking views, warm water and constant trade winds (les Alizés) works its potent cure. The first wonderfully carefree day blends into the next, then a third, punctuated only by the most deep, restful sleep. Time slows. You're now uncertain which day of the week it is. Nor longer care. The treatment is successful. When your island idyll finally comes to an end, you tell yourself that it's only a pause, since you are already planning your next dose of this intoxicating elixir.

This property has amazing views and great location! My husband and I were very comfortable there. The kitchen is well equipped. The owner was very responsive to any problems or questions we had. They keep the property v clean- spotless! We really recommend this property!!!

Depuis 10 ans, nous venons une à deux fois par an à Saint Barth. La villa Ouanalao est vraiment EXCEPTIONNELLE !!! La vue sur la plage de Flamands est absolument magique, la piscine avec son banc immergé est très agréable, la terrasse en partie couverte est parfaite. La maison est très bien agencée avec un beau mobilier contemporain : deux belles chambres et un séjour avec vue sur mer, une cuisine très fonctionnelle, une magnifique salle de bains. Tout est parfait ! Et surtout nous voulons remercier Robert qui est un hôte vraiment très gentil et à notre écoute. Merci également à Kevin qui est très réactif et à Rosario pour la qualité du ménage quotidien. Bref un séjour inoubliable dans cette magnifique villa dans laquelle nous souhaitons revenir si Robert et Carolyn sont OK.

Breathtaking views in st barths
Our family spent one perfect week at villa ouanalao. The home is beautifully situated on a hill with stunning views of one of the nicest beaches on the island. The pool and deck overlook this incredible setting and it would be easy to spend the entire day here. The home has everything you need to be right at home. The bathroom is beautiful and the kitchen is fully equipped to make anything you might feel like cooking. The beds and sitting areas are also very comfortable. The villa is located in a beautiful area of the island and just down the road from the best boulangerie for morning breakfasts. Robert is very helpful and his local staff are very attentive, friendly and helpful as well. We highly recommend villa ouanalao!

Ouanalao is held and operated by Pélican SBH SAS, a French law LLC that is owned by your hosts. The hosts are a New York couple with 20 years experience visiting the Caribbean and St Barthélemy in particular. One is a lawyer in international banking practice; one is a former international banker and since 2007. She was also the co-owner of an upscale French bistrot, café and cheese shop in Westchester County, New York. Multi-lingual and cultural, having lived and work extensively in New York City, France and Germany, and having a small countryside home outside Hamburg. Avid sailors and active participants in their community. While new to operating a property, they have rented Caribbean villas extensively for 20 years. They know what works and doesn't. As well as what hard working, discerning travelers expect from a vacation rental in an island paradise. This experience and their strong sense of taste have informed every decision.

Why they chose this property

St Barthélemy is a unique destination that speaks for and sells itself, no need to gild this lily. You may know this already, as this may not be your first trip.

As to this slice of heaven, the key appeal is the residential neighborhood and million-dollar endless view. The view is one of the best on the island, of which one never tires. Within a day of arrival, disconnection from the passage of time as one looks out over the end of the Caribbean Sea, knowing that this is land's end until West Africa. Incredible sunrises over the Atlantic, each morning a different miracle.

This real estate opportunity was a miracle as well. Given the cost of both land in such an exclusive place and construction on a volcanic island, we never could have afforded building or buying. It was only a wild dream. But across 15 years of regular visits, we became family-like friends with the owners of the main villa. Knowing our love for St Barts, they designed and built their main villa with a single apartment for us in mind. They offered us a long term lease, generous rights to operate it for vacation rentals and liberal input into the design and construction decisions. It's now our pleasure to share this good fortune with others who love - or will surely come to love - St Barts and this particular corner of this exceptional island.

Development on St Bart's - Please Note: The island has construction and renovation projects of varying degrees year-round, especially post-Irma. No neighborhood is immune - including Colombier. You may hear the tock, tock of occasional rock diggers or jack hammers. Good news is that times are regulated. Permitted construction times for the island are Monday-Friday (7am-5pm with a min. 1 hr lunch break) and Saturday (7am-12pm). During Festive period Dec 15-January 5, there is no permitted heavy construction on the Island. Property directly below the Villa will have construction during 2023-2024. they must abide by above rules.

Perfect for discerning travelers who could rent a larger villa, but know that by choosing what's really needed, one can stay longer or return more frequently, with no sacrifice in comfort, amenities or view.
