Well appointed very large luxury house with stunning view across Loch Etive

The house has a hallway entrance with coat hooks, and shoe racks bench seat and adjoining loo and shower room. This opens into the main spacious vaulted living area (8mx8m), with floating hearth and large log burner. The living area has comfortable seating for 12, a piano and stereo with CD player and iPod connection. The large very well equipped modern kitchen has plenty of storage space, double dishwasher, large fridge freezer and large induction cooker (5 ring cooker with 2 large ovens and a large grill) Also a Quooker (express hot water, no kettle required) The dining area has a large refectory table, which easily seats 12. There are 6 bedrooms - 4 doubles and 2 twins/doubles, and extra gallery bedroom with double sofa-bed. All beds are super-king size and the master bedroom has a 7' x 6'6' bed with luxury en-suite bathroom. The house has 6 bathrooms. There is a TV Room with comfortable seating for 12, with smart TV, DVD Player, and log burner.

Outside the 2.4m wide deck surrounds the lower floor and is an idyllic space to sit, there are French doors from both the Master bedroom, TV room and Cottage Sitting room.

Nature / Otter spotting: We have seen Otters in Ben Dhuirrnish Bay on many occasions. There is a solitary Otter seen quite regularly and we have also seen the female with her cubs and occasionally the father as well (only once see all three and I don't think the female Otter was that happy with the father being there!) These Otter sightings are tide and weather dependent and can not be guaranteed - but I have loads of video film (many occasions 30 minutes plus of video and also some amazing photographs of the otter close-up). With luck and patience it is just a fantastic experience and has made the holiday for many of our guests.

Nature / Bird Watching: Resident common gulls, mallard, eider, herons, we also see mergansers and goosanders, little grebes, kingfishers and many other birds including peregrines, merlins, buzzards, hooded crows and further up the loch we have spotted Golden Eagles. Towards the head of the loch there is a seal colony, which can be seen from the Taynuilt Cruise Boat.

Fishing / Sea and Fresh Water: Bonawe is a known fishing mark for sea anglers. The Loch has the Scottish record hake, Skate up to 40 lbs, Spurdog and Dogfish. Thornback Ray, Cod and Pollock into double figures and Mackerel, Whiting, Ling, Haddock, Coalfish and other species available.

The spurdog fishing in Loch Etive is excellent. The Scottish shore record of 15lb 3oz was caught here in 1991. Fishing in front of the house can be productive with massive shoals of Mackerel coming into Ben Dhuirrinsh Bay and are easily catchable on light tackle from the shore - brilliant fun.

Boats can be hired from Taynuilt boat hire and these can be delivered to the jetty at the end of the island - very handy and great fun.

It was Bon-awesome!

We've known this beautiful area for years and we've seen the building fall into disrepair and then be renovated into the stunning home that it is today. The house is gorgeous and has a huge "wow" factor and yet still feels cosy and homely. It is literally a stones throw from the loch and the highlight of the week was watching a mother otter with her two kits fishing and playing directly in front of the house - amazing! The huge living space works very well for a large group (there were ten in our party) because there are four different living areas and you can find your own bit of "chill out time" if you want it. Conversely, if you all want to be together, the rooms are set up so that you can do that too. The decor is luxurious and there are some beautiful paintings and personal effects which add to the character of the house and make it feel a very loved home. The views are breathtaking and the location is extremely peaceful. There is literally no noise except the sounds of the birds in the trees (slightly eerie if you're outside at night but the lights shining from houses across the loch stop you feeling too isolated). We had a six and seven year old with us and they loved fishing from the rocks infront of the house. We caught Rock Cod, Coley, Gurnard and lots of crabs! We took the children to the nearby Sea Life Centre (pay once and you can go as many times as you want for a full week) and to the Cruachan Power Station which was also well worth a visit. We were blessed with lovely weather all week to enjoy the breathtaking autumn colours so we were very content to make the most of the fishing and walking which could be done from the doorstep. Tigh na Breac is a gorgeous house in a stunning place. We had a fabulous holiday and we hope to return again soon.

Beautiful house, fabulous location, more than comfortably accommodated 10 of us. Highly recommended

Despite rotten weather we had a lovely time. House extremely well equipped, enough indoor entertainment to keep 4 teenagers occupied when too wet to go out. Very homely, in a 5star hotel kinda way! Location great for exploring the highlands as well as Argyll & bute, nice restaurants nearby and lovely walks. We will be going back!

Fantastic property with stunning views.

Had a superb week staying at this property with our extended family. The house has been modernised to a very high standard and was great for a large group. The open plan kitchen, dining room and sitting room was great for our family to share and the views over the loch were enjoyed by all. Managed to see seals, otters and a sea eagle from the house. Thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Just Fantastic.

We had a fabulous Autumn break at Tigh na Breac with our adult children. 7 of us stayed and there was plenty of room.

This has got to be one of the best holiday homes we have stayed in (and there have been many). It feels like a very loved home and not the usual soulless dwelling that self catering rentals can be. It is obviously used by the Hind family and so is very well equipped and every need is catered for.

As this was October we were delighted with how well heated the house was despite it's large size.

The huge sitting/dining room with it's beautiful decor was a delight with view of water on 3 sides from the picture windows and surrounded by colourful deciduous trees with lots of birds to watch. Then there's the unobstructed view of Loch Etive itself right in front of the window . It was wonderful to watch the changing moods of the landscape in all weathers with frequent rainbows to top it off!

The shops are near enough to nip to by car for a pint of milk (it has a well stocked Co-op) but far enough for this to feel like a peaceful remote spot.

There are a couple of long walks from the house and innumerable hiking opportunities a short drive away. In summer there are lots of outdoor activities organised locally (these stop at the end of October).

All in all this is the perfect getaway for people who love the great outdoors or for less mobile folk who might want somewhere beautiful to sit and watch the scenery and wildlife (also ideal for artists because of the huge north facing windows).

Andy is a friendly, helpful host, and we will be back this year.

Tigh na Breac, Bonawe, Argyll and Bute

The property lived up to its billing big time. Wonderful sitting with an open fireplace and tons of room. Very spacious and airy and finished to a very high standards. They even put up a Christmas Tree for us arriving! The kitchen was very well appointed and coped with our large party effortlessly, as did the dining area. The balcony was a real focal point where we spent a lot of time chatting, admiring the stunning views and taking photos.

The house was spotless and the bedrooms well appointed to cope with a Scottish winter. The owners were very keen that we enjoyed our stay and the level of customer service was commendable.

We had plenty to do and took long walks up the glen, spent some time in Oban and even managed a run to Glencoe for some photographs and Fort William for some souvenirs.

Had a wonderful time and will be back. Great value for money

Fantastic break at Tigh na Breac

Magnificent accommodation with beautiful views over Loch Etive. Top class facilities and great walks on your doorstep. The bedrooms, kitchen and sitting room were immaculately presented. My only regret was, we didn't stay longer.

Tigh na Breac is situated on Loch Etive 12 miles from Oban. The Glen Etive Way starts nearby and extends 11 miles up Loch Etive to Glen Etive and Glen Coe. This is a stunning and popular walk. Oban is a busy and attractive harbour town with an excellent range of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and cinema. Known as the Gateway to the Isles, Oban has a thriving fishing industry and ferry terminal, from where you can take sightseeing day trips and ferries to many beautiful West Coast Island destinations. Within easy reach are many castles, standing stones, sea-life sanctuary, marinas, craft studios and galleries as well as other tourist attractions. Glen Coe, Inveraray Castle, Loch Awe and Loch Lomond (amongst others) are ideal day trips.

Argyll is a beautiful county with stunning countryside where lovers of outdoor activities and nature will find plenty to occupy and interest them - such as diving, kayaking, sailing, hill-walking, fishing and golf all within easy reach of the house.

  • The House was renovated and modernised and is very comfortable it has: Three Sitting Rooms (One being the TV Room) The largest living room is 8m2 vaulted ceiling, this room has 360 spectacular views, either across Loch Etive or up Ben Dhuirrinsh at the back all stunning views. 2 Fully Fitted Kitchens - Both with double dish-washers - The main kitchen has a falcon 5 ring induction Hob, the second Kitchen has a four ring induction Hob. Two dining areas (one with seating for 12 and the most amazing views across Loch Etive) One utility room with Washer and dryer and another washer dryer in the second kitchen. The house has Underfloor Heat in every room and large Log Burner in the three sitting rooms. Have a nice stay...
