About the property

Ideal for a family holiday (sleep 6) in a lovely remote countryside location

Lovely 3 bedroom villa (sleeps 6) in a delightfully remote, countryside location surrounded by cultivated farmland and Mediterranean forest. All modern conveniences and decor is warm and cheerful. Private fenced off pool. Bedroom 1 and 2 with double beds. Bedroom 3 with twin beds. Two complete bathrooms, one en-suite with shower, the other with bath. Open plan kitchen, dining, living room. Modern and fully equipped. Washing machine (placed in bathroom).

HD Television with all the Spanish channels up to date (some can be set to bilingual audio). Shelves full of books and guides (in Spanish, Dutch, English and French). Original prints, photos and paintings on the walls give the place a personal touch.

The Spanish/Dutch owners live in the valley as self-sufficiently as possible, running a (certified) organic vegetable and fruit garden and breeding geese, while offering their holiday home to nature lovers, families, bird spotters, hikers, peace seeking couples and anyone who looks for a relaxed place to spend their holidays.

Access to the house is through paved country roads (with exception some 200 meters in the middle). At the end a sharp curve and steep descending slope, accessible to any type of car.

Ronda, just 8 km away, Ronda is one of the most beautiful cities of Andalusia, steeped in history. It stands on a towering plateau in the mountains of the province of Malaga. This mighty promontory ensured that Ronda was an impregnable fortress for the Christian armies until the end of the Reconquista. The plateau is split in two by the gap, 'El Tajo', and is the natural separation between the old and the new Ronda. This gap is spanned by a stone bridge, Puente Nuevo and once housed a prison underneath.

All visitors to Ronda are staring with disbelief down into the deep gorge, and then often unconsciously shivering step back a little!

The shopping area of ??Ronda, where some of the traditional shops still maintain, is located in the new part of town.

However, the most enchanting walks can be found in the old town where the Moorish and Roman atmosphere can be inhaled in every street corner.

Nearby village of Arriate provides with banks, small supermarkets and other stores that you need on a daily basis. This charming village is also known for its cheap & cheerful tapas bars. Since 2012 we now also have a very good and affordable restaurant located in the old depot house from the train station.

Ronda lies very central to all the cities which are worth visiting and can easily be travelled in one day, such as Cordoba (Mezquita), Granada (Alhambra-book well in advance!), Seville (Giralda and Reales Alcazares), Malaga (Picasso Museum) and Gibraltar and Marbella/Costa del Sol..

About Lies Wajer

Francisco was born and raised in Ronda. He knows the country very well and is a passionate lover of nature and organic farmer. Lies is Dutch and came from Amsterdam to live in Andalusia in 1995. Both their son Santiago was born in 1998.

Francis and Lies try to live as self-sufficient as possible. Francis maintains and processes the gardens, while the Lies rents out the, for this purpose built holiday home. She will also do the odd jobs and is dedicated to art photography.

This house is ideal for nature lovers, families, birdwatchers, walkers and anyone looking for a relaxing place to spend their holidays. And to make communication a lot easier Francis speaks English while Lies fluent Dutch, Spanish and English speaking, can express herself reasonably well in French and understands German and Portuguese (but speaks less fluently!)

Lies Wajer purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Lies Wajer chose Ronda

When they came to live in the valley in 1999, it was a bare plot of land only used for breeding goats. But they immediately recognized its potential and fell in love with the peaceful tranquility that the valley breathes.

While trying to make a living and raising their son, over the years and step by step, they have tried to develop the place to be a perfect holiday spot for everyone from all over the world who looks for comfortable holidays.

What makes this cottage unique

The valley has a peaceful and a very rural feel. You are 'off the world', but within walking distance from civilization. And because you are surrounded by an organic vegetable garden, you can profit from the availability of all seasonal homegrown produce.

The fascinating city of Ronda is centrally located for trips to Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Cadiz, Malaga and the Costa del Sol.

Summers know long warm days and cool nights. And in winter you breathe the fresh clean mountain air of Ronda.

A big plus for families with small children as the pool is securely fenced. Moreover, it is home to small children prepared with toys, books, cot and high chair and little 'fragile decorative objects '..

Guestbook comments from the manager

This is a beautiful, tranquil setting with everything needed for a relaxing holiday. The house is well equipped, spotlessly clean and the pool was brilliant given the heat of mid July. Lies was very friendly, highly informative and brilliant at sorting out a problem we had with a hire car that had two shredded tyres. Because of her assistance we ended up with another ( better ) hire car rather than having to sort out the problem ourselves. I can highly recommend this cottage for a great holiday.

A Gem Outside of Ronda

  • 5 of 5

It's worth driving a little out of the way to find this peaceful and spacious cottage. The home is clean, with comfy bed and a nice shower, perfect for abundant bird watching or reading on the patio by the pool.. Stay out for dusk to enjoy the bats! The owners live next door and were very gracious and hospitable, available if needed but not intrusive. Plus, we were intending to spend our time in Ronda but the town where this home is located, Arriate, was a gem discovery so we split our time between both. We lucked out and stumbled upon the annual Fiesta en el Aire---truly fabulous!!

Relaxing holidays at a fabulous place

  • 4 of 5

Thanks to Lies' perfect description, we found the house very easy!

It's a lovely place! It's quite clean, plenty of room... We've been welcomed very friendly with a big pack of potatoes and vegetables from the garden.

Our Kids loved the pool! Every day they jumped in, after our tours to Ronda and many sightseeing all around.

Whenever we come back to Andalusia, it's sure we stay here again!

Wonderful dream of a place

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for two months with our boys, ages 4 and 6, in 2010. It was one of the most wonderful vacations of our lives. The cottage is wonderful and pool perfect for our boys. Lies and her husband were just great hosts. We walked to town every day, hiked the hills, and took the bus to Ronda once a week. The organic farm is a great thing for children to see. We fed the chickens with our table scraps. If you would like a quiet getaway in a gorgeous setting, with wonderful hosts, and a short ride to Ronda, this is the perfect place! We miss our time there and hope to go back some time.

Owner's Response: Hi Michael and Jennifer, thank you very much for your kind response. Hope everything went well since then and your book(s?) heve been published by now. We are still here, safe and sound. We stopped having the gees and chicken, because Francis has a lot more organic garden now which is hard work, but he enjoys it. Your boys must have grown a lot. Take care and who knows, we'll see you again one day at this end of the world :)

a lovely week near Arriate

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week at this lovely house which was clean and well-equipped. The owners were very helpful buying in supplies for us as we arrived on a national holiday. We also enjoyed the organic vegetables they supplied. We all loved the swimming pool and terrace. Arriate was a lovely small town in walking distance and we had some great day trips to Setenial de Las Bodegas and Cueva de la Pileta. Would thoroughly recommend this for familes. A feast of good books and games were also supplied.

This cottage is situated in a quiet valley that breathes stillness and has a very peaceful feel to it. The owners grow an organic vegetable and fruit garden alongside the house. You will be 'off the world' but still within walking distance to the lively and pleasant village, Arriate, and only 15 minutes away from the historic town of Ronda. The old centre of Ronda, has both beauty and history. An inspiration to many, it is one of the most visited towns in Andalucía. Very central for day trips to Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Jerez or Malaga. Summers know long warm days and cool nights. And in winter you will breathe the crisp clean air of the Ronda mountains, with its many surrounding natural parks, such as Parque Natural de Grazalema and Sierra de las Nieves.

Many beautiful white villages in the surrounding area and the 'Route of the White Villages' is one of the most favourite day trips.
