About Veronique Despreaux

We are both architects and divide our time each year between London and the Haute Savoie

Veronique Despreaux purchased this apartment in 1998

Why Veronique Despreaux chose Morillon

We fell in love with the old farm sitting in its alpine pasture that had stood here for 100+ years. Unfortunately it was suffering from years of neglect so we painstakingly rebuilt it and took the opportunity to add in lots of insulation and a geo thermal heat pump and other luxuries that the old farm never had.

What makes this apartment unique

All the charm of an old farm chalet with plenty of space in and around and all the luxuries of home. The views of the Dents Blanches and Le Criou across the valley can be seen from every window. The chalet sits on the old road up to Morillon 1100 which is 'green' on the Michelin maps, meaning picturesque and not to be missed. Lots of walkers come by admiring the twisting road and the beautiful views.

Guestbook comments from the owner

For two weeks, we, a Dutch family stayed in this lovely house, more than just an apartment!

The two bathrooms are really great and the living room and extra chair from the bedroom provides even cosy sitting around the fireplace for 7 people. The dining table has ample space for even 10 persons!

We stayed with kids for lessons in Samoens and 9 weeks in Morillon! The Morillon centre lift is most close +/- 3 min by car. The Vercland lift is really nice because it is not so busy on vacation weeks. Vercland lift is also good for parking your car easy and very close to the lift. We also drove to Samoens 1600 for the kid’s lessons. This is great when the lessons are early. By car it takes about 10-15 minutes, you have enough parking space and are close to the area +/- 1 minute walk to where the kids have their lessons! We recommend Zigzag Sui. Small classes and the teacher Sebastian even spoke some “Nederlands”. So, if we can, we will return for sure. It is a house that has everything you need to make yourself at home on a holiday!

Thanks!

A warm and welcoming apartment in a peaceful locat

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is well furnished and equipped. Everything was very clean and tidy, and the beds are really comfortable. I would definitely recommend this area and this property to any friend. Two of our party are non-skiers, and we had a delightful week walking in the River valley and driving to other resorts in the area. We particularly liked Samoens, and enjoyed walking there through the valley. We highly recommend the Bar Savoie in Samoens, best tartiflette in the area!

Another fantastic holiday in Morillion

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay in Morillion, it's a very family friendly resort with skiing and snowboarding for all abilities. The chalet is a short 10 minute drive from the village with beautiful views from the windows of the mountains. A car is advisable as you can then drive to the village in the mornings park for free and it saves the walk home. We hired our equipment from Verneret sports in the village and they let you leave your skis and boots in the shop at night which saves lugging them back to the chalet each evening.

The chalet has everything you need with enough hot water for baths and showers and underfloor heating which makes it nice and cosy. It's beautifully decorated and well laid out for evenings in by the fire.

We took our 18 year old children with us and they found the local night club in Morillion as well as had a couple of fun nights in the local bars. It was about a 30 minute walk back to the chalet in the evenings afterwards.

Morillion is very quiet in the evenings but it has several nice restaurants as well as take away pizza places and a lovely bakery. Everything stays open late enough for you to stock up with groceries after your days skiiing. Samoens is only 15 minutes drive away (or a bus ride) and it's a really pretty town with lots of shops restaurants and bars.

We were lucky enough to pick a week with plenty of snow so it was possible to ski all the way down to the village but last year we went later in April with less snow but the skiing was still good over in Flaine where it's higher up.

We will definitely be returning again.

Owner's Response: Thank you, you are very welcome to return. The flat was left in very good order. Next time, you could try to go to the Vercland lift in Samoens. It is the same distance from the chalet as Morillon and the parking is free next to the ski lift. It gives a quicker access to Flaine. You can hire your skis from Roland Gay, in Samoens 1600, at the top of the lift .He will give 15% reduction to the chalet Le Cret ; they also give a ski locker to leave skis and boots , although it is also possible to ski down to Vercland when snow allows. At the end of the day, la Reposette, by the lift , is a very friendly après ski bar. You can also return to their restaurant at night : it is a very nice 30 min walk. Hoping to welcome you again. Veronique All the best to you and your family. Veronique Veronique

Séjour parfait dans un grand chalet de standing

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous chalet in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this beautiful chalet - the photos just don't do it justice! It was spacious, clean and very comfortable with everything that we could possibly need for a perfect and relaxing holiday. The views of the mountain were wonderful to wake up to, the chalet is lovely and peaceful and I'm already planning my next ski holiday here!

Morillon is a very picturesque village, especially with all the Christmas lights, and absolutely perfect for a family holiday as it is just big enough to get what you need while still being small and charming. It was also great having easy access to the ski lifts in town and in nearby Samoens.

I can't wait to come back.

Amazing chalet, beautiful surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our summer holiday at this beautiful chalet. The actual house is set in a fantastic location, quiet and secluded, with breathtaking views. It's really comfortable and well equipped, a perfect base for walking and exploring the local area. The weather was also fantastic which was an added bonus! We would love to go back.

Nearest Airport : Geneva at 55 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Morillon at 1.5 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Golfe des Gets, 18 holes at 20 Kilometres Nearest Train : Cluses at 20 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Cluses//Scionzier at 20 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Morillon at 1.5 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Vercland/ Morillon Village/ Grand Massif Express at 1.5 Kilometres Car: recommended

Located on the outskirts of the lovely village of Morillon, Chalet le Cret is the perfect base for a mountain holiday. Overlooking the Giffre Valley and Les Dents Blanches beyond, the traditional style alpine farmhouse is set in a pasture, the perfect place to get away from it all and relax in luxury and comfort . Children can sled and build snowmen safely outside. It is just 5 minutes drive from the ski lifts of Morillon and Samoens, leading to 265km of pistes in the Grand Massif. The unspoilt and picturesque medieval town of Samoens is just 8 minutes drive away with narrow lanes of shops, fine restaurants, and plentiful activities all year round. The Sixt national park at the head of the valley is a walkers, bird spotters and climbers paradise. If however you need a break from the peace and beauty of the mountains then just an hour's drive away are the cultural delights of Geneva, Annecy and Chamonix; you will never be short of something to do.
