Cotswold Period Cottage in a Village with a pub in 5 minutes' walk. Large garden

Overview

Property

Updated: 03-Dec-2016
Original cottage totally refurbished. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms + shower. Garden.

Built around 1840, the cottage is on a dead end country road, so no traffic. Totally renovated in 2010 as a country retreat for its owner, it boasts modern central heating, new bathrooms, handmade curtains and a new kitchen equipped to the highest standard.

Rated 4*GOLD by the English Tourist Board 8 years in a row.

Traditional character has been preserved with deep windows, beams, a traditional wood fire, and Rayburn (Aga) cooker, and a selection of antique pictures. We even provide complimentary logs for the fire!

It is a five minute walk to a traditional English pub with excellent food. Rolling Cotswold countryside can be seen past the traditional village roof lines at the back.

There is a large cottage garden with patio, barb-b que, and outdoor dining. Fluffy towels and toiletaries provide that extra pampered feel. There is an extensive selection of books, and even some children's books and toys for the perfect country retreat.

The English Tourist Board has certified this property as family-ready and suitable for cyclists. Cycle hire is available and there is storage. Cot, high chair, toys, plastic cutlery and crockery all available.

Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

Almost 1000 guests a year now stay at my holiday homes. The average rating of over 250 online reviews is 4.9! I try to deliver consistency and quality.

We are all from London. I am a retired banker and my wife is a doctor. We started buying holiday homes because we were consistently disappointed with the quality of other places when we started renting self-catering places as a young family. Hotels didn't offer proper flexibility for small kids, and self-catering was either very basic or ridiculously expensive jetset places.

Our children are now 18,17 and 14, but the business has grown as we found that others like our choice of locations and standards. Some of our guests have stayed in all five of our holiday homes, sometimes 3 or 4 times in the same one.

Great, relaxing spot in the Cotswolds!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five (kids aged 13, 10, and 8) had a wonderful experience with this property. We stayed here June 28-July 5, 2016. The cottage is just as depicted in the pictures -- lovely, charming, and comfortable. It looks like it belongs in a movie set! We had everything we needed. The supermarket in Stow-on-the-Wold is about 12 minutes away. The Lamb Inn is a 2-minute walk and is a wonderful place to dine. Bourton-on-the-Water is about a 6-minute drive and has many restaurants and shops. Wi-Fi and washer/dryer work very well. We took day trips from here to Stratford-upon-Avon, Stonehenge, Highclere Castle, Oxford, Blenheim Palace, and Sudeley Castle. We also enjoyed quiet, relaxing mornings and evenings in the cottage. The gardens in the back were a nice surprise -- larger than we expected. The only slight negatives were endearing ones. (I had to learn to duck my head under very short door frames, and we learned not to walk on the bottom two creaking stairs.) The owner was very pleasant to work with and always responded to our inquiries in a timely fashion during the booking process and leading up to our trip. This property was exactly what we were hoping it would be, and we enthusiastically give it our highest recommendation.

Beautiful Spacious cottage with lovely features and cosy log fire.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage had plenty of room for the 7 of us,for our family get together. It was very clean and had a well equipped kitchen including a good coffee maker. The cottage had lovely features through out including a lovely log fire , which along with the central heating kept us nice and cosy even in January . It was close by to other popular villages which were nice to visit.

Perfect Cottage and Village

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Eastereleigh Cottage! There were 7 adults and the sleeping arrangements were perfect, the bathrooms worked out well and we felt there was plenty of room for all us. The cottage itself is just gorgeous! Exactly what you would picture for an old English cottage. We walked to the pub for dinner, walked up the street to the beautiful church, and had easy access to all the nearby villages. The location is perfect. We had no trouble parking the car in front. We had a couple small issues- ants, broken chair, and power outage (that was probably our fault) and we contacted the manager Lorraine, and she took care of things immediately. We only wish we had more time! My hubby knocked his head many times on the low doorways, but that's what makes the cottage so charming! I plan to share this property to all my travel friends. All 7 of us agree, it couldn't have been better!

First time visitors

  • 4 of 5

I loved being out in the country after a stay in busy London. Place was just as pictured and described. The Lamb Inn was fantastic, friendly, food excellent (except for one curry vegetable dish ). We ate there several time and just walked home! Allowed for a relaxed evening and no worries about the wine you had with dinner. The cottage was great. The third bathroom on kitchen level IS small but doable. The glass roof over dinning table.... great. We had perfect weather for the total stay. One morning it was a little grey and a few sprinkles. The door heights proved to be a challenge to our taller husbands. Mine is 6'2" and the other guy is 6'1. After a couple of bumps they remembered to duck! The information about leaving the key in the front door while unloading (due to wind blowing it shut) was right on. This makes me think that it has blown shut on people before and caused a problem. Glad for the head up on that point. We ate out all most all the time so can't really evaluate the kitchen much. Glasses stored in cabinet by kitchen table was not very handy. We spent our time in the dinning room because there was more space. I thought the bedrooms were great along with two other bathrooms. The master bedroom had a huge tub, shower and I loved all the morning sunshine that came in the windows. I could have just come to the cottage and spent my total trip there. We walked, talked to the neighbors, took pictures, ate, drank and did day trips to other villages we wanted to see. I would highly recommend the cottage. Mark was very helpful about information, reservations and follow up. The four star rating is more based on having 6 adults at this cottage. If it were only 4 adults I would have given a 5 star. 6 just made it a little cramped. Would visit again!

Owner's Response: I am delighted that you had a good time and thank you for your comments. The cottage is actually rated by the English Tourist Board Four Star Gold for up to 7 adults. There is ample space, the problem is just that old-style cottage architecture tends to have smaller rooms and ceilings were lower than we are used to! Always welcome back. Mark

Lovely cottage, beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Our family holiday was made all the better by the lovely cottage and its facilities. Our party was seven adults and there was plenty of space for us all. Having one of the bedrooms on the ground floor with a shower room was prefect for my elderly parents. The cottage was warm, clean and inviting. We had a very enjoyable meal at the local pub, The Lamb Inn. The village is very quiet, which is great, but other villages and tourist attractions were easily accessed.

I would fully recommend it and hope to return myself.

Location

From the Owner

The most important factor is the village. Many properties are listed in busy tourist villages such as Burford or Bourton. We wanted a genuine farming village, not a tourist place, but one that had all the charm of a Cotswold village, with pub, church, etc. The property is an unusual blend of feeling like a very traditional cottage, but properly modernised, yet not losing any of that tradition. It is quiet, there is lots of parking and a large garden.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : London Heathrow at 70 Miles Nearest Train : Kingham at 12 Miles Nearest Motorway : M40 at 25 Miles Car: necessary

Situated in a glorious Cotswold village, complete with pub, village green, and 900 year-old church and spectacular views across the Cotswolds. 90% of the buildings are hundreds of years old, built in traditional local style. Right in the middle of the Cotswolds, but away from the tourist trail. The village is a starting point for many beautiful walks across the countryside,The famous towns of Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the Water and Burford are just a few minutes' drive away. It' a perfect spot to base touring across the Cotswolds and for Oxford (40 minutes' drive away), Stratford-Upon Avon (40 minutes) and Cheltenham (40 minutes). But then back to a peaceful, beautiful traditional village cottage, complete with large character garden.
