Overview

About the property

Romantic 2 bed, 2 reception apartment in tranquil hillside village

A bright, sunny apartment in an ancient village called Virgoletta on a hill between Villafranca and Bagnone only 2.5km from a beautiful swimming pool complex and 35 minutes drive from the beach. Recently restored with a panoramic terrace, French doors to the living room, a large kitchen/dining room, a beautiful bathroom, and two bedrooms upstairs.

With magnificent views from the house and the terrace to the Apennines.

Steps lead up from the narrow cobbled street where all village life takes place. The single street leads to the castle at the head of the town. It is possible to drive to the door for unloading, and there is a large carpark nearby.

The property is probably 13th century but has been recently restored throughout. There are a range of shops, bars and restaurants in Villafranca 2 km away which also has a large swimming pool complex and a train station with trains to Florence, La Spezia, and Parma.

The property is set in the heart of Lunigiana, a magical part of Tuscany starting with its name the 'Land of the Moon'. The hills that encircle Lunigiana create an intimate and relaxed atmosphere whilst the blend of the mountains and sea are extremely inviting to those who enjoy the outdoors. The rolling landscape is liberally sprinkled with castles of Medici or Malaspina vintage but for lovers of the coast the sea is only half-an-hours' drive away.

HOW TO GET TO US

The apartment is centrally located for three airports, Genoa and Pisa which are 75 minutes away and Parma is 60 minutes, so you have plenty of choice for flights.

Or why not visit the bakery that is open 6 days a week to buy freshly baked Italian breads, foccaccia and pizzas. Each day listen for the horns announcing the arrival of the travelling vans bringing locally grown produce, fish, meat or Italian ice creams to the village. If you enjoy cooking, all the ingredients you need are brought to you! There are individual shops as well as a well stocked supermarket in Villafranca.

Markets - There are a full list of these are available in our welcome pack and in our book at the house. There is a market in the local area 6 days a week, in particular Villafranca, 2km from the apartment, holds a large, colourful market every Friday morning selling local produce, clothing and gifts.

Within 90 minutes by car are the cities of Pisa, Parma and the walled medieval city of Lucca.

Florence is easily accessible by train from Villafrance station or 2 hours by car, although parking could be a challenge.

Also a visit to the World Heritage site of the Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coastline is a must. Wonderful View - Perfect Location

Excellent spot to explore this quiet area of Tuscany. There are many fascinating medieval hilltop villages to visit and beautiful mountain scenery to enjoy. A comfortable apartment with lovely mountain views, which we would happily rent again.

Excellent base in Historic Tuscan Village

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Il Tinello it gave us the opportunity to experience the true Italian culture. Neighbours were very welcoming and we enjoyed witnessing the early evening gatherings, and the Church parades. The position of Il Tinello is superb and was a real treat for us. We were grateful for the warning about parking below the town and the steep walk up etc. All worked out well for us though. We found a lovely Agriturismo whilst trying to find our way to Il Tinello and would recommend it to anyone. We were so impressed we took our Italian friends there for a meal who were equally impressed. Villa Franca had everything we needed and Bar Nello was a good place to stop for coffee and Brioche. The views from the terrace were amazing and will live with us for a long time to come. We did go out, most days, site seeing and found Il Tinello an excellent base.

Beautiful village, beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

The house is set in a delightful village and has glorious views across the valley. Eating or just sitting on the terrace is peaceful and captivating. The accommodation is well kept, well equipped and was just right for us. We had plenty to do within easy reach - markets (Villafranca on Friday), hilltop villages (Vezzano and Montecatini Alto) and shopping (Montecatini). On a previous visit we also we did Lucca and Pisa and had a day at the coast. We had a good choice of restaurants in nearby villages and towns, but also ate in. The trip to/from Pisa airport was swift and straightforward.

A gem.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in Alan and Carole's erie in Virgoletta, a hilltop village in Lunignana. The apartment, the village and surrounding country were as as perfect as last time. Il Tinello is sparkling clean, comfortable, well equipped and the view is the best we know. Alan and Carole pay meticulous attention to detail and to helping you make the most of your stay in the apartment and out and about exploring. Thank you both.

We had a wonderful week and recommend it to all our friends.
