About this property

Beautifully Renovated Traditional Stone House in Vori, South Crete, Greece.

The Stone "House Potami" is over 100 years old traditional Cretan house, that was completely restored in 2008 and adjusted to serve as a holiday home. The sensitive restoration kept the original authentic spirit of this beautiful stone house.
During the winter of 2017 it undergone an extensive renovation and was upgraded to a "Boutique" level and style accommodation.
On the ground floor there is a cozy patio, that leads to a spacious living room with attached kitchen and bathroom. On the first floor is a fully equipped bedroom, attached to a large sunny veranda with great views of the village and the impressive Psiloritis mountains.
There are an outside steps and a door, that leads directly into the upper level and could serve as an alternative exit/entrance, if needed.
In addition to the normal equipment, there are a washing machine, dish washer, large fridge-freezer, free WiFi, smart TV with multi channel satellite and Netflix connections and also a Bluetooth audio device.

The house is situated in a quiet neighborhood, just a minute walk from the charismatic main square of the village with cafes and shops.
Vori is a lively and authentic Cretan village, situated in the Messara Valley. It has several traditional cafes (Kafeneio), an excellent taverna, bakery, pharmacy, mini market and some other shops.
It also houses a very good and quite famous Ethnographic Museum.
From Vori one can easily reach the beautiful sandy beaches of Kalamaki, Kommos, Agio Farago and the famous beach villages of Matala, Agia Galini, Lendas and Kokkinos Pyrgos.
The important archaeological sites of Phaistos, Agia Triada and Gortyn are just nearby.
As the village is located at the foot of the Psiloritis range, it is a good starting point for hiking, trekking, biking and mountaineering.
Enjoy your stay!

very comfortable, well equipped property in quiet old area of village.
had a great stay, beaches within 20 minutes, property was well equipped, including kitchen facilities, however we usually ate out, would highly recommend the taverna on the street at the square, just ask what they are cooking today, we got a different excellent meal every night we ate there. House is very quiet, very comfy bed. Agent is friendly and on hand should assistance be required. Should we return to Crete we would certainly stay a second time.

Perfect - fabulous house in a great location !
This is a wonderful house in a wonderful location !! If you are looking for a truly Greek experience we cannot recommend this place enough. House Potami is just lovely! Very sizeable with everything you could need. They really have thought of everything. There is plenty of space to put your stuff, in the bedroom, lounge and kitchen. It is spotless. All you would need in the kitchen. Very comfortable bed, crisp sheets. Air con upstairs and downstairs, also a quiet fan above bed. Outdoor areas also great, front garden under shade of a Mediterranean tree, very occasional passers by. Upstairs terrace of good proportions with sunbeds and dining table and chairs. From the onset, the service from the owner was excellent. Quick responses to queries before we went and ongoing Mark was happy to help us with all we needed. Vori, only an hour and a half drive south from Heraklion, is a quaint village with a small square. Best ice cream ever at the café/taverna, lovely café frappe. There is one tavern, Alekos, run by husband and wife, very nice indeed - gorgeous garden surroundings and delicious food. Three cafes on the square. Small supermarket open all day, possibly not Sundays. We loved that there were empty ruined buildings next to bright inhabited ones. Truly a Greek village experience. Took day trips to Phaistos (ancient Minoan palace), Gortyn (ancient Roman capital), Minoan tomb, Matala where hippies inhabited caves (ancient Roman tombs) in 1960s. There is a beach at Matala and also a quieter beach nearby at Kalamaki with free sunbeds at the tavernas - all this within 5-30 minutes drive from House Potami. We have stayed in many properties booked via websites such as Ownersdirect, this is one of the best!

About the host

Hi,
My name is Mark. My wife Sonia and myself, we purchased this beautiful stone house in late 2016. During the winter of 2017, it was extensively renovated to adjust our living standards and tastes, while at the same time, we cared to maintain it's traditional Cretan character and feel.
The house is very cozy, comfortable and fully equipped.
We try to do everything to help our guests "feel at home while they away" and to offer them a pleasant residence for their holiday in Crete!
Waiting to host you soon in "House Potami"!
Sonia & Mark.
