About this property

In the heart of Domme, a charming house with garden and jacuzzi

MAISON BOYER

A historic house in the heart of Domme with garden and jacuzzi. The spa is cool in summer and warm in winter, just as you please.

PLEASE NOTE We now have dates available in late August and early September 2023

This beautiful property is renovated to a very high standard. Quality fittings and tasteful decoration. 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It offers comfortable accommodation for up to 6 guests. This unique property is situated in the famous Place de la Rode. A peaceful and quiet private garden. Shops and restaurants within a few metres. Maison Boyer was the home of a noted writer and "compagnon", Abel Boyer. The recent renovation has managed to combine modern facilities with original features such as the thick stone walls and fireplaces, exposed beams, wooden floors, and shutters.

La Maison Boyer also has the added advantage of having a ground floor bedroom and shower room, extremely rare in this stunning bastide village.
Throughout, the house has a mixture of modern and antique furniture from around Europe.

INTERIOR DESCRIPTION:
Ground Floor
The original studded front door opens directly into:
The spacious and luxurious lounge with two sofas (one which converts to a king size bed to accommodate two extra guests); a wood burner stove offering extra warmth for cooler low season evenings (free wood); a flat screen TV with English, French and International channels; DVD player; bookcases with a large selection of books, and various lamps and Persian carpets for atmosphere.
A French window leads onto the rear terraced garden with its jacuzzi spa.
A door leads through into the large dining kitchen, with its period tiled floor. The new kitchen is fully equipped with fridge, freezer, electric oven and induction hob, dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle, microwave oven and toaster. A solid wooden dining table and 6 chairs provide comfortable interior dining. This delightful room benefits from the open aspect provided by wide French windows opening onto the terrace.
From the kitchen a door leads to a lobby which in turn gives access to:
A ground floor double bedroom, with glass doors opening onto the Place de la Rode. The bedroom offers two single beds that convert to a king size bed, to suit guest preference. There are bedside tables with lamps, a Moroccan rug, a wardrobe and chest of drawers. There are folding chairs and a table for sitting out in the square to bask in the evening sun.
An adjacent shower room, with a walk in shower, wc, heated towel rail and vanity unit. This doubles as an ensuite facility for the bedroom and for daytime general use. The ground floor layout is suitable for those with restricted mobility.

First Floor.
From the lounge a wooden staircase leads to the first floor, where you will find:
The spacious master bedroom, with traditional stone fireplace, exposed beams, and solid wooden furniture. The king size bed has a memory foam mattress. A door opens onto a long balcony which overlooks the rear garden and offers view over village rooftops to the Dordogne countryside. A table and chairs provides a great spot for morning coffee and croissants.
The master bedroom has en suite bathroom which is bright and airy with a free standing traditional bath, walk in shower, heated towel rail, vanity unit and wc.

General.
Internet wifi access throughout. Bed linen and towels are provided, and the beds are made ready for your arrival. Maison Boyer has an oil fired central heating system, which along with the wood burner in the lounge makes for an extremely comfortable house all year round. A separate ‘buanderie’ in the garden houses the boiler, a washing machine and a second fridge.

EXTERIOR DESCRIPTION:
The house benefits from an enclosed rear terrace and flower garden area, completely private due to its high position, despite being in the centre of the village. An all important jacuzzi offers an ideal spot for a cooling dip in the summer or a luxurious and warming experience in winter. A perfect way to relax after a day’s sight-seeing. A wooden table and chairs and a barbecue are ideal for al fresco meals. Sun loungers and a parasol.

Absolutely wonderful!
What more can I say? Everything was fantastic. Roddy was in touch promptly after our booking to answer our questions & give us good directions to find the property. Catriona was there to greet us on arrival & show us around. She also kindly provided us with a very welcome bottle of wine & food basics sufficient for a first meal. Unusually for a holiday rental, there were lots of 'bits & bobs' such as spices & oils in the kitchen cupboards for our use. That made our self-catering a lot easier. The house was exactly as described, if not better. It's a beautiful old house with many original features, including the peephole in the front door which caused us much amusement! The property was spotlessly clean with everything you could want. The bathrooms were lovely, with great showers. And oh my goodness, the jacuzzi! We spent a lot of time in it, just relaxing with a drink & contemplating life. Domme is a lovely village. Stunning views & architecture, with narrow streets & pretty cottages. There were plenty of restaurants but sadly most of these were not yet open for the season when we stayed in the first week of March. We ate in the Vietnamese restaurant which was charming & high quality. The little supermarket by the Tourist Office was very handy for bread etc, but again the more specialist shops were still closed. Probably saved us a lot of money! We were unfortunate to be in Domme during one of the wettest weeks for a long time but we still found loads to do locally. Plenty of chateaux and gardens to visit, and if you have a wet day we can recommend the caves in Domme itself. 5 minutes walk from the house & spectacular. We really can't recommend this property highly enough. Roddy & Catriona were delightful hosts, relaxed but informative, and very approachable. We can't wait to revisit!

Perfect base to explore the Dordogne from
We had such a fantastic week in Domme. The house was exactly how it was pictured and described, no hidden surprises. There was so much to do that we wish we had stayed longer. We’ll definitely return. The property itself was beautiful and the views across the rooftops at sunrise from the main bedroom were pretty special. Thank you Roddy and Catriona

Maison Boyer, Ten nights early November '18
We had no problem finding the property in the centre of Domme , and were cheerfully greeted by the owner Roddy, who then gave a tour of the house and briefed us on programming the oven , adjusting heating temperature etc . The house is extremely well equipped and there was nothing we felt was missing. The kitchen has an induction hob and high quality fan oven, dishwasher , freezer and fridge. All of the glasses, crockery and utensils were pristine and ready to use. The owners had thoughtfully provided a selection of provisions so there was no need to dash out to the shops the first night. The bathrooms were immaculate with good spacious shower enclosures and a nice deep roll top bath in the upstairs ensuit English and French sat decoders are provided in both the living room and master bedroom. The living room has a couple of big comfortable sofas and a large wood burner which we found easy to light and regulate. Roddy provided ample wood throughout our stay. The central heating kept the house comfortably warm and we were never short of hot water. We had a delightful stay at Maison Boyer thanks to Roddy and Catriona and would certainly return if staying in the area again.

A beautiful house, wonderful location, everything we had hoped for!
We could not recommend this property highly enough. The house has all the character of an old property but all the benefits of modern living. It's location is wonderful, right in the centre of Domme but amazingly peaceful and tranquil. The owner was there to meet us,which was very useful. The fridge was stocked with all the essentials to get us started plus a bottle of vin! ! The hot tub in the garden was the icing on the cake! The Auberge de Rode directly opposite the house does delicious food but eating in the garden of the house was equally pleasurable. Tremendous range of birds, including a cuckoo were great to listen to. Can't recommend highly enough.

We are both from Scotland, close to retirement age but with lots of adventurous spirit left. We have always loved France, the people, food, culture and of course the scenery. We have both found a quiet and less stressful life in rural France and love it!

Why they chose this property

We bought this beautiful house in 2016 after viewing upwards of 80 properties in the area. We chose it because of it's location, it is situated in the heart of the lovely Bastide village of Domme. We have lovingly restored it and filled it with antique and modern furniture and adding all the essentials of modern day life. For those who have limited mobility, there is a ground floor bedroom as well as direct access to the garden, kitchen/dining room and sitting room without stairs. Having so many lovely restaurants and cafes within a short walking distance means that ditching the four wheels for a while is really quite easy.

What makes this property unique

The location is exceptional. Domme was recently voted the " Most beautiful village in France" (Daily Telegraph, March 3rd 2017) and having this whole property with all the facilities at your personal disposal is wonderful for a relaxing holiday. The privacy of the peaceful garden with the Jacuzzi is unique in this village. It is great for cooling off in summer and warming up in winter. The interior is tastefully done and accentuates many of the beautiful features including the metre thick stone walls (keeps the house cool in summer) and the period tiled floor in the kitchen/dining room. There is space to sit at the front of the house in the evenings, have a glass of wine and watch the world go by. There are so many things to do if you want to be active, canoeing on the Dordogne river (1 km), cycling, balloon rides, walking, fishing and swimming from the many river beaches nearby. The world famous Lascaux caves are only 45 minutes away and there are many chateau to visit, markets to explore and restaurants and cafes to enjoy. It really is the perfect place to visit for all ages and abilities.
