Guestbook comments from the owner

My familiy stayed here for two weeks in July. The house was perfect. We had 3 small children in our group and the lovely enclosed garden meant they could play all day without any worries. The pool was a big hit. The children loved it and spent every day in there.

In our second week there was a heat wave and temperature was in the 40s, so it was great that the house had a large number of electric fans.

The house is in a great location around 6/7 minutes walk to the centre of town. There is a bakers a few metres away and a brilliant pizza takeaway place just next door.

My family had a lovely relaxing time.

Charming property with lovely outside area

  • 5 of 5

We were 5 adults staying, and were slightly unsure about the number of beds, but there beds to spare. The layout of the house is unusual, but was furnished in keeping with its style - no Ikea here!

The garden & pool are lovely, and we spent many an evening sitting outside. There were some mosquitos (though my 2 sons were unaffected), so it is worth bring some protection if you are prone to being bitten (I, apparently, am irresistible).

The house is well situated - a short stroll to the centre of Uzes where there are plentiful restaurants. Also, next to the house is the most charming take-away pizza restaurant we have ever encountered. Well worth trying (including the Christmas Pizza!).

It was a very relaxing holiday in an historic town, and we were very happy to have found this property.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this great 5 star review. We are glad to hear that you had a good holiday. The unusual layout and the size of Les Palmiers does seem to take many visitors by surprise but everyone quickly comes round to its quirky charm, as can be seen by the large number of repeat visits. As you mention, the house is furnished in a very comfortable French style, ideal for a very relaxing holiday - a style which is very far from Ikea style. Thank you for the recommendation regarding the Christmas pizza, I will have to order one during my next visit. I hope you tried some of my favourite restaurants and cafés, all only moments away. There is not usually a problem with mosquitos. However, reading your kind review, I can quite understand why they might find you irresistible!!! I think it would be a good idea for me to add to the arrival notes that visitors should bring mosquito protection for use when they are outside, just in case. Thank you once again for taking the time to write.

Fantastic house near Uzes town centre

  • 5 of 5

Les Palmiers is a true oasis tucked a way with no one overlooking, yet just a five minute walk into the middle of town. We loved the fact that there was so much varied seating in the garden, with lots of shade from trees and umbrellas and a great awning over the outdoor dining room table. The pool was perfect, beautifully clean and just what was needed after hot sightseeing. Easy reach of so many stunning places, although top of our list was kayaking from Collias (15 minutes drive away) under the Pont du Gard. The house had plenty of room, a very well equippped kitchen, comfortable beds with much welcomed fans in each room, along with great WiFI (which kept the children happy when they were staying out of the midday sun). The boulangerie round the corner and take-away pizza next door were great, and the Wednesday market was stunning (although I believe that the Saturday is even more impressive). Our warm welcome from Maria and most helpful advice from Maggie (including amongst others a great recommendation to eat Au Petit Jardin in Uzes) were much appreciated. All in all a quite wonderful week in a lovely house in a beautiful town in a fantastic region.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the 5 stars you have given Les Palmiers. I am so pleased that you had such a wonderful holiday. I really don't know what to say in return. You have described the size, comfort and location of Les Palmiers, the garden and the pool absolutely perfectly. Next time you will just have to stay for longer so that you can visit the Saturday market!! It truly is fantastic, more or less taking over the town and is famous in the area, with people coming from miles around. I am glad that you found my advice useful. I first came to Uzès 16 years ago (it was love at first sight) so there are very few questions I can't answer. I will tell Marie that you appreciated how she welcomed you - like the house she is a true gem. Thanks again for this thoughtful review. You are welcome back at any time in the future.

Beautiful house a short walk from centre

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed around Uzes many times, but never close enough to walk in and we really enjoyed the freedom to do this. Les Palmiers is a 5 minute stroll from all the restaurants, bakeries and shops you could want, within a beautiful and historic setting. The house is no ordinary rental property. It has charm and character and is furnished to an exceptional standard. Maggie was really helpful with tips and local knowledge and Marie was very welcoming. We had a wonderful stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your five star review. We are so glad that you had such a good holiday at Les Palmiers which I have to say charms everybody who rents it. I can only agree, that it is a wonderfully comfortable house in a fantastically convenient location - minutes away from everything you could possibly need. Your point about the difference between staying in a village outside Uzès and in Uzès itself is also well made. Staying close enough to walk into the Place aux Herbes makes for a totally different holiday. Thank you for all your compliments. I will let Marie, our great housekeeper, know what you have said as well - she plays a big part in making sure that Les Palmiers is such a pleasure to stay in. I hope you will return again one day as so many people do.

fine house and great location

  • 4 of 5

Les Palmiers is a comfortable and spacious house with a lush and inviting yard. We did not use the pool because the weather was cool. Weather was perfect during the 3 weeks of our stay and the location of the house, a 5 minute walk to town, was perfect. We were away from the bustle but close enough to partake of the wonderful shops and boulangeries in town.

We cooked several meals without any challenges since the kitchen is very well equipped. The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious.

Nice to have a washer/dryer available. Pleased that the town collects recyclables, but one has to go to a central place to deposit these.

Les Palmiers was our home base from which we visited many of the other cities and towns in the region. We also used the walking map sold at the tourist office to do some day hiking. These trails are easy to follow and well marked.

The owner provided a great deal of information to help with our adjustment to Uzès living. A splendid time.

A welcoming town a

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this review and your kind comments about the house and the garden. Three weeks is a long stay and I am pleased that you found the house spacious and comfortable. It really is the sort of house that makes people often say that they could happily stay a lot longer and there is so much to do in the area as well. Many visitors love to cook - there is so much beautiful fresh produce available at both the wednesday and saturday markets and even in the shops - so I am glad that you appreciate our efforts to offer a well-equipped kitchen. Of course for those who are not so keen on cooking, there are plenty of great restaurants to choose from just a stone's throw away. Uzès is the perfect spot for a holiday - it offers all the shops, restaurants and cafés that anyone could want and has plenty of its own character and history yet it is within very easy reach of so much more. The tourist office staff have loads of information about what to do locally. I did not know there is a walking map available for sale. I will add this to the information which I send out to all holiday-makers and which you said was helpful. I update it every year and it is great to get additional first-hand tips. It is a shame that the weather this year was a little cool to use the pool - but this is unusual. I have often swum in September. However the consolation was that the weather was perfect for your sightseeing and your comments show that this area is great for holidays all the year round. The house is fully centrally-heated should you ever want to come back on another occasion a bit later in the year! Thank you once again for taking the trouble to write a review. It is much appreciated. You are very welcome back at any time.

Beautiful house on a top location!

  • 4 of 5

The house is located just outside the center of Uzès. In 10 minutes you can reach Place aux Herbes on foot! What a luxury, to go out to the city centre at night and not have to drive.

Once behind the entrance door in the wall, you come in into a real southern garden: palmtrees, swimmingpool, terraces and tranquility.

We enjoyed our stay very much and probably will come back in 2017.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and you will have a warm welcome back, if you decide to return next year or at any other time in the future. You are not alone in appreciating the great location of Les Palmiers - the house really could not be much better-situated . The garden is a tranquil oasis and in fact since your visit, we have been busy and replaced some trees. It is the perfect place to spend a restful day as well as being the perfect antidote to a busy day's sightseeing. Thank you for your kind comments once again.

Ideal location in a beautiful town

  • 5 of 5

Les Palmiers is a lovely house in a perfect location in Uzes which is a fantastic town.

The private pool is large and the secluded garden had plenty of space for 7 to relax outside in comfort. The house itself is charming and well equipped, with plenty of space for the 7 of us.

The walk into town is 5 minutes, and the town is just right; big enough for lots of lovely restaurants, bars and boulangeries, and small enough to be 15mins walk from end to end.

We have no hesitation in recommending this property in this town. A fantastic holiday

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this wonderful review and the 5 stars you have given Les Palmiers. Your first sentence says it all and I totally agree with everything you say!!!. Yes, Les Palmiers is a lovely house - yes, it is in a perfect location - and yes, Uzès is a fantastic town. I am glad you had such a good time in the house and in Uzès. You mentioned that Les Palmiers had plenty of space and equipment for all 7 of you and you also liked the big pool. I think that being able to please everyone in a large group is quite a tough test for a house and I am so pleased that yet again Les Palmiers passed with flying colours. I am sure your comments will be helpful for people looking for a house for a large group - though actually Les Palmiers is just as often booked by couples or small families. Your description of Uzès is absolutely right as well! Thank you once again. You are very welcome back in the future.
