Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family (2 adults, 2 children) had a wonderful time in Maggie's home in Uzès for 2+ weeks. The house was quite lovely, with everything we could possibly need to make our stay extremely comfortable! We loved the proximity of the house to town, the privacy and security behind the garden wall and eating almost every meal al fresco on the patio. The house was extremely clean and well maintained which was appreciated (not all homes we've rented through Home Away have the same level of cleanliness). We were in Uzès as the seasons were changing from Summer to Fall. If I could provide one disappointment it was that the pool is situated in the yard so that it does not get a lot of direct sunlight in the Fall, and because there is no heat, it was quite chilly and we were unable to really enjoy it. I am sure in the summer, however, the pool would be amazing as it can get very warm in Uzès. A huge thank-you to Maggie, and the amazing housekeeper extraordinaire, Marie!

My Response

Thank you very much for this great review you have given Les Palmiers. I am so glad that you had such a wonderful time and that you found that you had everything you needed. I will pass on your remarks to Marie about the cleanliness of the house. She will be pleased. She is extraordinaire, I do not know what I would do without her. Regarding the pool, I think the Fall or Autumn as we English say, may have started a little earlier than usual this year. I have swum in September and it has been lovely. I hope you will come to stay again at Les Palmiers but perhaps in the summer time so that you can take full advantage of the pool, as most visitors do. Thank you once again. You are very welcome back!

fine house and great location

  • 4 of 5

Les Palmiers is a comfortable and spacious house with a lush and inviting yard. We did not use the pool because the weather was cool. Weather was perfect during the 3 weeks of our stay and the location of the house, a 5 minute walk to town, was perfect. We were away from the bustle but close enough to partake of the wonderful shops and boulangeries in town.

We cooked several meals without any challenges since the kitchen is very well equipped. The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious.

Nice to have a washer/dryer available. Pleased that the town collects recyclables, but one has to go to a central place to deposit these.

Les Palmiers was our home base from which we visited many of the other cities and towns in the region. We also used the walking map sold at the tourist office to do some day hiking. These trails are easy to follow and well marked.

The owner provided a great deal of information to help with our adjustment to Uzès living. A splendid time.

A welcoming town a

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this review and your kind comments about the house and the garden. Three weeks is a long stay and I am pleased that you found the house spacious and comfortable. It really is the sort of house that makes people often say that they could happily stay a lot longer and there is so much to do in the area as well. Many visitors love to cook - there is so much beautiful fresh produce available at both the wednesday and saturday markets and even in the shops - so I am glad that you appreciate our efforts to offer a well-equipped kitchen. Of course for those who are not so keen on cooking, there are plenty of great restaurants to choose from just a stone's throw away. Uzès is the perfect spot for a holiday - it offers all the shops, restaurants and cafés that anyone could want and has plenty of its own character and history yet it is within very easy reach of so much more. The tourist office staff have loads of information about what to do locally. I did not know there is a walking map available for sale. I will add this to the information which I send out to all holiday-makers and which you said was helpful. I update it every year and it is great to get additional first-hand tips. It is a shame that the weather this year was a little cool to use the pool - but this is unusual. I have often swum in September. However the consolation was that the weather was perfect for your sightseeing and your comments show that this area is great for holidays all the year round. The house is fully centrally-heated should you ever want to come back on another occasion a bit later in the year! Thank you once again for taking the trouble to write a review. It is much appreciated. You are very welcome back at any time.

Beautiful house on a top location!

  • 4 of 5

The house is located just outside the center of Uzès. In 10 minutes you can reach Place aux Herbes on foot! What a luxury, to go out to the city centre at night and not have to drive.

Once behind the entrance door in the wall, you come in into a real southern garden: palmtrees, swimmingpool, terraces and tranquility.

We enjoyed our stay very much and probably will come back in 2017.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and you will have a warm welcome back, if you decide to return next year or at any other time in the future. You are not alone in appreciating the great location of Les Palmiers - the house really could not be much better-situated . The garden is a tranquil oasis and in fact since your visit, we have been busy and replaced some trees. It is the perfect place to spend a restful day as well as being the perfect antidote to a busy day's sightseeing. Thank you for your kind comments once again.

Ideal location in a beautiful town

  • 5 of 5

Les Palmiers is a lovely house in a perfect location in Uzes which is a fantastic town.

The private pool is large and the secluded garden had plenty of space for 7 to relax outside in comfort. The house itself is charming and well equipped, with plenty of space for the 7 of us.

The walk into town is 5 minutes, and the town is just right; big enough for lots of lovely restaurants, bars and boulangeries, and small enough to be 15mins walk from end to end.

We have no hesitation in recommending this property in this town. A fantastic holiday

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this wonderful review and the 5 stars you have given Les Palmiers. Your first sentence says it all and I totally agree with everything you say!!!. Yes, Les Palmiers is a lovely house - yes, it is in a perfect location - and yes, Uzès is a fantastic town. I am glad you had such a good time in the house and in Uzès. You mentioned that Les Palmiers had plenty of space and equipment for all 7 of you and you also liked the big pool. I think that being able to please everyone in a large group is quite a tough test for a house and I am so pleased that yet again Les Palmiers passed with flying colours. I am sure your comments will be helpful for people looking for a house for a large group - though actually Les Palmiers is just as often booked by couples or small families. Your description of Uzès is absolutely right as well! Thank you once again. You are very welcome back in the future.

An Uzes Gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely house for eight weeks to celebrate our. 50th anniversary. We had friends and family come to stay over that period. We found the house to be very accommodating and well equipped. The yard and pool very welcoming, We spent many hours there. Our children especially enjoyed the pool during the warm weather. The town of Uzes was as nice as any French town we have been to and the markets were wonderful. We found Maggie and Marie very helpful with any problem that occurred. We will never forget our time here in Uzes.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this fantastic review and the 5 stars you have given Les Palmiers. A 50th wedding anniversary is a very special anniversary and I can imagine how much you were hoping to find a special house in which to celebrate with your family and friends. I am so pleased to read that Les Palmiers suited you so well and that you so enjoyed your stay. Eight weeks in a house is a long time, it is not like staying for just a week or even two weeks, so for you to call Les Palmiers a "gem" is true praise indeed. You probably now know the house just as well as I do! As you say, Uzès itself is wonderful too - the markets are renowned and there are lots of other things to do. Uzès and Les Palmiers seem to have been the perfect combination for you. Thank you once again for your kind comments.

Uzès Oasis

  • 4 of 5

We were delighted with our choice of Les Palmiers as a group of three couples holidaying in early September. The pictures simply don’t do the house or grounds justice.

Maggie’s information pack sent beforehand was extremely useful and Marie, the maid was very accommodating and also tolerant of our limited French.

The house is located on a road which was busy at peak times however its close proximity to the centre of beautiful Uzès more than compensated. It was also very secure and extremely clean. The well-proportioned rooms were opulently furnished and the kitchen well equipped to cater for six ‘foodies’

Outside the courtyard garden was a veritable oasis with various options for relaxing and eating al fresco.

The swimming pool was a touch on the cool side even though we had fantastic weather but on a positive note it is extremely clean and bigger than the picture suggests.

The nearby supermarket and even nearer boulangerie made for great convenience. Also the little nearby pizzeria served us well for a lazy last night in.

For lovers of beer the Meduz micro-brewery was only a 25 minute walk away.

If we had any minor criticisms it would be that the television and CD player were rather complicated and might benefit from being simplified. However it wasn’t really a problem for a group of book worms! Also for a family the shower and toilet facilities are fine but for couples the typically French bathroom arrangements are a bit more challenging!

We would certainly recommend Les Palmiers and the pretty town of Uzès. We have some very happy memories.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this great review. I am so pleased that the house is even better than you expected from the pictures - that is a compliment indeed! I quite agree the location of the house could not be more perfect but yes, even in beautiful mediaeval Uzès there is some traffic. However, I know you will agree that once you have stepped from the street and into the walled garden, it is very easy to relax and enjoy the "oasis" as you call it. I will pass on to Marie your comments about the house being very clean and her helpfulness - she will be very pleased. I have to say it is very reassuring for me to know that I have someone as reliable as her taking care of the house. I am sorry that the pool was not quite warm enough - it usually is, even in September when you holidayed. I have swum many times at that time of year and have not wanted to come out of the pool, it has been so lovely. Yes, the bathroom arrangements are a little French, if that is not being a little politically incorrect. However like your own group's reactions, the house is loved by all who come to stay: groups of adults, familes with children and couples who want lots of space. One of the proofs is that we have many return visitors. Thank you for your comments about the television and the CD player. They won't be changed for a while yet but I will remember your points when that time comes round. Meanwhile I will look to see if I can improve on the instructions. Once again, thank you for taking the trouble to write this review and for your recommendation. I am glad that the house and Uzès have helped you to create some happy memories to keep you warm during winter! You are welcome back at any time in the future.

Even better than expected

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 wonderful weeks in Uzes – a couple + 2 single adults – and were all very happy with both Uzes and Les Palmiers. The house and grounds are even more attractive than the photos show. It was very hot during our stay but the lovely courtyard was a shady oasis for lazy afternoons round the pool, which was as sparkling as claimed. The house itself is airy and comfortable, very well equipped with kitchen items and appliances, and everything very clean and well maintained. Location is excellent: a short walk to the town centre and even shorter walk to the closest bakery and supermarket. We particularly appreciated Marie’s friendly welcome and the information Maggie emailed us on shops, restaurants and places to see. As this was our first visit to Uzes, we found this a great help in starting us off on our local explorations; there really is a lot to see and do without going very far afield. We have no hesitation recommending Les Palmiers to our friends, and hope to go back ourselves some time. The only thing we would do differently is that we would not bother to rent a car for the whole period. We found the local buses cheap and convenient, and would only need to hire a car for the occasional trip further afield.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this review and the 5 stars you have given us. We are very glad that you had such a great time. As you say, the house is perfect for holidays, although we also have regular long winter lets - a Canadian couple are coming back to stay this year for the sixth time. Uzes and the area are also totally beguiling I do not really know what more to say - you have said it ALL! I will pass on your comments to Marie, our fantastic housekeeper - she is a gem! Thank you very much once again. You are welcome back anytime
