The lower or 'new' town of Carcassonne dates back to the 13th century, its central square and surrounding grid of narrow streets is worthy of exploration in itself.

A more picturesque route is the road alongside the Canal Du Midi as it meanders through the Aude countryside towards the sea. Along this route there are various sites to take in - Minerve (slightly off the road), the Olive oil factory at Bize-Minervois, Le Somail - a pretty hamlet on the canal, L'Oppidum d'Ensérune - a Roman settlement on a hill overlooking the canal and curious l'Etang de Montady, the Seven connected locks at Fonséranes on the edge of Bezier onto Narbonne with its half-finished cathedral and Roman Via Domita in the central square. We (Chris & Kathy) purchased our villa in 2008. We are dog lovers and they are part of our family - hence well-behaved dogs are also welcome to come and stay with their families!!

Here we are in the ninth season of successfully renting our holiday home to like-minded visitors. We have had many lovely guests from all over the world who, based on their feedback, have thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Carcassonne and their stay in our villa - see our guest reviews.

Kathy Webber purchased this villa in 2008

Why Kathy Webber chose Villemoustaussou

We love the convenience of Carcassonne's location and the variety of landscapes offered by the Aude region of Languedoc Roussillon France and wanted other people to also enjoy similar experiences, and so have rented our property to holiday makers since 2010.

What makes this villa unique

Our local concierge meets our guests to familiarise them with the property and its facilities, and is contactable through out our guest's stay at the villa.

It is situated in a village location with a relaxing ambiance, yet is just minutes drive from Carcassonne town centre, a major Autoroute and Carcassonne airport.

The village, Villemoustaussou, has its own local festival and events & there are all year round activities going on in Carcassonne and other nearby towns. So whatever time of year you decide to visit there is nearly always something interesting happening in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Extremely well equipped & the pool is the icing on the cake!! We were blessed with good weather but were glad when we went into Carcassonne that it was abit cooler. Went to O'Vineyards (1.5 miles). Wow!! super people (American/French) had a wine tasting. Went back the following night for a meal. Absolutely FABULOUS evening.

Great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for our small family of 3. Really well presented, clean and comfortable. Photos don't do it justice really. The very neat and clean garden was great for our daughter to play in while daddy was BBQing.

Great location <5 mins from huge Carrefour, 15 from la cité, 10 from the bastide, 15 from Lac Cavayere. Narbonne, 45 mins away, is also worth visiting.

We want to come back to the area and if we can't persuade more of our family to come with us we'll stay here again!!

Spacious, comfortable and very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. It was more spacious than we expected, very clean, well maintained and in a quiet neighbourhood. We all enjoyed the pool which was great for the kids to mess around in and for us all to work off some of the local produce (of which I for one ate and drank too much of!). Just as importantly for the kids, the wi-fi was excellent and reached throughout the property. There was everything that we needed for a two week break and the mountain bikes were great for taking advantage of the Canal du Midi (5-10 minutes cycle from the villa). The boulangerie was a 2 minute walk from the villa (and also did pizzas in the evening) and there's huge hypermarket just 2 minutes drive away.

Just stunning - a real home from home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to Kathy and Chris's villa and it just get better! It is spotlessly clean and has everything and more that a family needs for a holiday (although likewise it's perfect for just two). So much thought has gone into the decor and rooms and it is so relaxing from the minute you arrive. Just arrive and unpack! The villa is perfect and is in an ideal location for the surrounding areas. Buses stop just 2 minutes away, there are a couple of bikes for the more adventurous and if you have a car there are some beautiful places to visit. As the temperatures where in the 30's we used the pool every-day - along with the numerous floats which added to the fun. Take a few minutes to walk into the very pretty village and have a drink at the Boulevard Bar where there is always a warm welcome and good food. I always recommend the villa to every-one as it is a lovely place to stay. Only one bad thing....we had to come home..still there is always next year! Well done and thank you Kathy and really is a home from home.

Carcassonne is at the heart of the Aude region of Languedoc Roussillon France.

Nearby airports: Carcassonne (4km), Beziers (100km), Toulouse (100km), Perpignan (114km), Montpellier (155km).

Flights from the UK to Carcassonne Salvaza airport take from around just one hour and forty minutes.

The town is also connected to the TGV high speed rail network, and is conveniently served by the A61 Autoroute from Toulouse to Narbonne.

Whether you decide to drive, cycle or hike, Aude offers lovers of the open air the full range of scenery from the Minervois and Cabardès vineyards in the north, the eastern coastal lowlands of Narbonne, the high valleys of the Pyrenees foothills to the south, to the rolling countryside which leads to Toulouse in the west.

There are two renowned World Heritage sites to explore (the medieval Carcassonne Cité fortress and the Canal du Midi) and you are surrounded by medieval Cathar history.

Serious hikers or mountain bikers staying at our villa can take on the challenge of the Cathar trail, including with numerous ruined castles and fortifications.

Ski: The nearby Ariège and Pyrénées mountains see frequent snow throughout winter and so Carcassonne is often used as a base for skiing holidays; the nearest ski pistes are around one and a half hours away by car.
