About this property

Live like a local in the Dordogne Valley! Castles, gourmet food, wine & history

Enjoy the changing of the seasons as the colours in the patchwork of the Périgord change from browns and yellows to reds and greens.

We at Les Chouettes follow local regulations for our cleaning and sterilising of our cottage and barn to ensure your safety during this stressful period.

Rent the barn on its own with your walking buddies or with the cottage for large family groups and friends. We have maps onsite of our local walks for your enjoyment.
This beautiful old 1811 barn has been beautifully decorated to create a modern luxurious space.
The upstairs bedroom offers a queen-size bed as well as a single bed with an en-suite bathroom.
Downstairs the bedroom offers 3 single beds and a Italian shower room.
The second downstairs bedroom has a lovely double bed sleigh bed and high ceilings. There is a toilet room next to this bedroom.
Outside we have a lovely seating area overlooking the orchard with a 3 x 3 m plunge pool. Situated only 1 km from the very popular Tremolat which has 5 great restaurants and a cafe in our quaint village.
The famous Le Vieux Logis offers "art on a plate by our Michelin star chef Vincent.
The Bistro en Face has also been awarded a Michelin star. Whilst the meals are bistro-style they are all beautifully presented and delicious. Les Tartines is a wine bar that offers smaller meals, should you wish something lighter. The pizzeria offers delicious pizzas as well as a variety of local dishes.
During the summer there is a pop-up restaurant on the waters edge of the Dordogne River which serves a variety of light meals.
Please note that should you be renting only the barn, the main pool unfortunately is not included in your rental.
Should you wish to use bicycles, especially the "e-bikes" which makes climbing our local hills more attainable, we can certainly hire bikes on your behalf at an extra charge.

Lovely barn conversion well equipped
Lovely decor, good facilities and very well equipped. Perfect for our small group. Perhaps a couple of things could be better: - shower addition for the 3rd bedroom (already sink & loo) & heating in that room - doors all stick and are very noisy to open & close - heating in main living area needs upgrading for winter months (you have to put the wood burner on as soon as it goes dark outside) - a LOT of small beetles falling from the roof… needs treating ?? - fenced area needed for barn to contain dog But overall a very pleasant stay and much appreciated the high quality beds, linens and little touches like the Xmas tree 😍 Thank you 🙏

Lovely Spring break
Really nice property for a relaxing break away from it all for a family of four. The weather was much warmer than expected so on reflection we maybe should have considered a property with a larger pool; however the property was spacious and well appointed making us feel very relaxed. Some gorgeous villages in and around the area. As well as Tremolat itself, Limeuil was gorgeous and a nice lunch under the trees overlooking the Dordogne in Mauzac was a highlight too! Karen was super helpful too whenever we had any questions ….thank you!

lovely barn conversion in a beautiful and peaceful location.
The property is well equipped and very easy to stay in in. Location is excellent: only a 15 - 20 minute walk into Tremolat, which is just enough to build up an appetite when you walk in to get your morning baguette and croissants. A couple of good restaurants in the village and others in the area. Lovely clear skies. We had a fantastic two weeks.

Really lovely property in a great location
This is a very well done barn renovation. My partner and I stayed here with two friends for a week and there was plenty of room for us all. The property was very clean, well maintained and stocked with all the utilities you could need. Ideal location, quiet but restaurants and bakery within walking distance, and plenty of castles and places to visit within an hour's drive. Would strongly recommend.

About the host

Host profile image
The owners are Alan and Karen Carter, we are South African,. We have travelled and lived in America and the UK and included all the things we like to have when we are away from home. We discovered the Dordogne in 2008 when we visited a friend who owns a property outside Tremolat. We both have fallen in love with the area. Alan and I would like to share our beautiful farmhouse and now recently our newly RENOVATED barn with anyone who loves fabulous food, unbelievable scenery, amazing history, and peace. The peace you too discover.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Tremolat and the beautiful Dordogne region when we visited in 2008 We have returned every year since that trip and we now have our beautiful cottage. Tremolat itself offers 4 superb restaurants and 1 wine bar and is within easy reach of wine regions such as Bordeaux, Begerac, Pecharment, and the lovely smooth wines of Monbazzilac ( gorgeous with fois gras), It is also within easy driving distance of wonderful historical sites such as Baynac and Castlenaud Castles, 1 hour from the paleolithic sites such as Les Eysiers. We are in easy access (only 35 km from Bergerac Airport, Bordeaux Airport is a 2 hour drive from the house)

What makes this property unique

The barn at Les Chouettes is a beautiful place to escape from the hustle and bustle of ones crazy life. It overlooks a walnut orchard which offers peace and tranquility.
