Inside the cottage are beautiful wood floors and all the modern conveniences of home. There is a quaint fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast table and bar stools. The living and dining room area is one great room. The living room has 2 comfy reclining leather chairs and lovely sofa to relax on. About the Owner

My husband & I are originally from Florida. We moved to France 6 years ago, and are loving every minute of it. This is our 7th season renting The Butterfly Cottage is a self catering property. We have a 5 star ranking, and all our guests agree we are the best of the best! If you read our reviews, I am all about making my guests happy, down to the smallest things. We are usually fully booked by the end of each season, so keep an eye on my calendar, I update it daily. We have been very fortunate to have many returning guests year after year, and guests that recommend us to their family, friends, and co-workers which is the highest complement someone can give us. We love inviting people into our home, and helping them experience the sights and sounds of this beautiful and amazing region. So, we welcome you to The Butterfly Cottage, and hope that you come join us, and enjoy France!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay with Linda & George was wonderful. While it was a joy to spend a week at Butterfly Cottage, it was truly Linda & George who made our visit so very memorable! From the time I first communicated with Linda until the day we sadly had to depart they were always warm, personable, and helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the area & taking the time to make us feel at home.

Sincerely, Paul

Dear Linda and George,

I echo Paul's sentiments and more!

He was sure your accommodations were going to be wonderful after viewing some of your photos on line and communicating several times with you. Neither one of us expected it to be so magical here! You two have created a warm and welcoming and completely comfortable home away from home! Your friendliness and knowledge of the area you share makes a visit to your abode all the more enjoyable and unforgettable! I love the way Paul made it his daily joy to feed and talk to your lovely hens! Relaxing by the pool watching the cows graze was an extra bonus for me. Aah!!! Visiting here was all a vacation should be!

Thank you so much for your warm hospitality, conversation, sharing of valuable site-seeing details, eggs, milk, juice, wines, Dimitri, Roosevelt, friendliness and laughter! I do hope we can return one day. If Paul had his way, he'd be visiting a realtor and putting down roots in the beautiful and magical Perigord and Dordogne region before returning stateside! The welcome mat is always out at our home for you two!

Many Thanks for the Memories, Cynthy

Wonderful cottage in the Dordogne valley

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Butterfly Cottage to celebrate our 35th anniversary. I can't say enough positive things about the property, location, and hosts. The cottage is beautiful with a wonderful courtyard - and comes with fresh figs and eggs from the owners chickens. The location is perfect for a Dordogne vacation, we visited multiple castles, prehistoric caves, and canoed the Dordogne all within minutes of the cottage. What makes the cottage special is the hosts - Linda and George who offered excellent tourist advice and made our stay very comfortable. They also set us up with a real French chef right at the cottage who prepared a fantastic meal for us.

Better than we hoped for

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Butterfly Cottage for our honeymoon, and we couldn't have hoped for a better time! The cottage itself was gorgeous, and was stocked with everything we could have wanted after our journey there - everything from wine in the fridge to toiletries in the shower!

Linda (one of the owners) could not have been more helpful - nothing was too much trouble! She recommended places for us to go, and restaurants we could visit, made bookings for us, and even offered to lend us aloe-vera when we got burnt! She definitely helped make it the best honeymoon we could have wanted, I don't think we'd have even found some of the places she recommended without her telling us about them.

We particularly enjoyed the swallows flying around, especially when they would dive bomb the swimming pool. Fresh eggs from the chickens whenever we asked, and we loved seeing their dog Roosevelt around the place - fluffiest dog we've ever seen and so friendly.

We also booked Dimitri for a night on Linda's recommendation - we were a little nervous at the idea of a private chef but Dimitri was lovely, and the food was the best either of us has ever eaten.

We genuinely couldn't have had a better time and would recommend this cottage to anyone. Perfectly situated to explore the Dordogne and lots of places to take a walk or just sit and relax. We can't wait to go back!

Already booked to return

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time we have ever booked to return somewhere before the holiday is even over. Yes, it was that good! We wanted to make sure we could return again next year. The whole experience was amazing from start to finish.

Linda is like your own personal concierge - happy to help & advise on your plans or suggest places to visit, eat etc.

The cottage is beautifully furnished and the private courtyard the perfect place to spend early evenings with a glass of wine watching the swallows put on a display.

The pool is maintained at a perfect temperature, the hot tub a wonderful way to end your day and the grounds immaculately maintained by George.

Eggs from the hens & walnuts from their trees are just one of the added bonuses.

This place is so peaceful & relaxing, yet within easy reach if all that the Dordogne has to offer - beautiful villages, chateux & markets. So much to see & do that we may need to return several times to appreciate it all!!

Perfect base from which to explore the Dordogne!

  • 5 of 5

Having just returned from our honeymoon in the region, my wife and I found the Butterfly Cottage a fabulous retreat from which to set our own pace for exploring the Dordogne.

The hosts Linda and George could not have been more helpful in providing tips, maps, and even helping to make bookings in French for activities for us over the phone.

The cottage is situated within truly lovely grounds, with the view from the pool and Jacuzzi every bit as stunning as the pictures might suggest. All the facilities you could possibly require are in the cottage, and Linda and George really go the extra mile to ensure every little touch is covered: you don't need to worry about coming with milk, spices, cleaning products and such because their attitude of providing their guests with everything they could need from the start of their holiday has all that covered.

We also really enjoyed getting regular fresh eggs from the 14 on-site "ladies" (chickens!).

We had an absolutely fantastic time here and were made to feel so welcome. We wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone, and plan to return ourselves in the future.

Beautiful cottage, amazing hosts.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in the butterfly cottage, so much so we have already rebooked for next year. The private outside space you get to yourselves is amazing, peaceful, relaxing and we struggled to actually want to go out anywhere. The property is spotlessly clean and has everything you need for your stay, even wine in the fridge and fresh eggs from the chickens. Linda and George are amazing hosts, making you feel welcome straight away, nothing is ever to much for them and they are there if you need them. We also booked Dimitri, I was a bit nervous about having a chef cook for us but he was amazing, very friendly and his food was some of the best I have ever tasted. There are so many lovely places to visit in a 20min radius and Linda is happy to advises you these. So thankyou Linda and George for giving us a beautiful place to look forward to visiting again. Must just say the bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in.

There is so much to see and do in our area, that you could stay for a month and not see it all. There are beautiful village's and chateaux's to explore; the Dordogne and Vezere rivers offering fishing and canoeing; as well as superb restaurants and shops. There are numerous vineyards of Bergerac for wine enthusiasts and there is a different local market situated in a nearby village or town for every day of the week. This is a wonderful cottage to enjoy and relax in, has all the amenities you could want, and close to everything. We hope to see you soon!!
