About this property

Fantastic Family Apartment with Indoor/Outdoor Pools & Gardens, Secure Parking

This property has a tourist licence issued by the Junta de Andalucia.

Located on the small community of Al Andalus Hills, this first floor apartment is fantastically appointed with everything for a comfortable holiday. The community is a 50/50 split between Spanish and English ownership which makes a secure and friendly base for your holiday. The community benefits from the use of a heated indoor pool in the winter, or a large outdoor pool and smaller children's pool set in beautiful gardens in the summer. This south facing apartment has balcony views of Mojacar Pueblo.

We have many friends on Al Andalus Hills, so if you wish to visit in a group or with extended family, we would be happy to find other apartments so that you can have your own space, but enjoy a group holiday.

We have chosen NOT to install wifi in the apartment. Most of are guests are from the EU, which allows them to use their own telephone packages for free throughout the EU countries. There are many bars with wifi if it is that important to you, but for us as a family, we feel holidays should be times to talk, to laugh, to play games and just to explore. Not to be glued to a screen as most of us are all year round. So please, come, stay and create new and lasting memories with your family.

There is a good bus service to the nearby towns of Garrucha, Mojacar Playa and Vera Town. There are shops, restaurants & cafes and a supermarket within a leisurely 15 mins stroll, including a lovely Lua restaurant/cocktail bar. The beach is about 15 minutes walk away. There is a traditional Spanish market in a local village most days of the week.

Almeria airport is a 45 minute drive, and Murcia is 1 hour 15 mins. Both airports are served well by budget airlines.

This is our holiday home and we spend time updating and decorating it, so that we, our families and our chosen guests can have a fantastic holiday in a well appointed apartment. The apartment is suitable for a maximum of four adults.

Golf Locally: The local courses are:
Desert Springs in Palomares, which is very friendly to visitors and have an open tee off on Weds am
Valle D'Este at Vera
But hubby likes Aguilon in Pulpi. Challenging, friendly and the pro (Victor) speaks great English.

Everything you could want & ask for. Brilliant.
First impressions. Excellent. A real home from home experience. Lovely for family dinners or simply relaxing as a couple. Air con in bedroom a god send. I cannot think of anything that you could possibly need. The balcony I was told was small but I was delighted with the size. A nice quiet area. Security on complex brilliant, needing key fobs to get in & out of pool area & car park. Own parking space. Regular bin collections. All white goods you’d have at home including washing machine & dishwasher. Really relaxing & homely environment. Very clean. What can I say. Just perfect. I will definitely want to return. The pool was warm, the locals & holiday families friendly. Not one single problem. Beaches lovely. I recommend a car, unless your happy to hop on a bus outside which seem regular. Communication between owner & I a ten out of ten. English speaking caretaker if needed, & owner supplies her own mobile number. Only 40/50 mins from airport. Nice drive. Brilliant weather. Cannot say a bad word. If you go with kids, you will not be disappointed. Even pool accessories to borrow from apartment. Neighbour is lovely too. Go. Don’t doubt me. I want to return. Thank you so much again. You made me feel like I was borrowing a friends apartment with your kind emails. Much love. Donna x

Convenient home from home with traditional flavour
This well-equipped apartment is conveniently located within easy reach of many great beaches, restaurants and shopping, yet feels perfectly peaceful and private. The pool and gardens are spotlessly clean and there's a handy mini market and cafe within walking distance. The apartment is perfect for a family of four and has ample space for a couple. There are beach chairs and accessories to take to the pool/beach and plenty of written info about all the many diverse attractions and activities available in the area, such as a road trip to Carboneras on market day, or travelling further afield to Granada, eating traditional Spanish fare in Mojacar Pueblo, visiting the expansive beaches both north and south of Vera, sampling Spanish markets in various towns within easy reach and making sure you don't miss any of the local fiestas. I would recommend this property to anyone seeking a relaxing beach holiday with great facilities on tap and plenty of authentic Spanish culture thrown in.

Nice apartment in a disappointing area!
We stayed in the apartment for almost a fortnight and were happy with the apartment itself. It was clean when we arrived, with lots of clean towels and spare bedding for the duration of our stay. It is a spacious two bedroomed apartment, which is plenty big for 4, but would have been a little cosy to have any more than that. We stayed in November, which is when it should be at its quietest, but it was unbearably noisy at night time. This is a first floor apartment and you can hear everything that goes on upstairs. We heard entire conversations, every step that was taken and when their alarm went off in the morning, it woke everyone in our apartment! The walls are paper thin! This was the most disappointing aspect of our stay, as we began to count down the days until we left and got a decent nights sleep! That is not what should happen on a holiday! We weren't made aware, until we were in Spain, that the usual process for lets is that the keys will be posted to your U.K. address. As this wasn't appropriate for us, we had to pay €20 for the caretaker to come out with the keys! An unexpected cost that should be mentioned on the listing. The resort itself is unfinished. Building work stopped abruptly when the recession hit and so there are a lot of uncompleted blocks and a lot of waste ground around the complex. There is a great road network, with amazing pavements and cycle paths all around the complex, but the weeds are so large in places that you are forced to walk on the road side. It looks like no maintenance is done out with the complex to the infrastructure which was put in place. There are also not many services locally. Perhaps a dozen restaurants as well as a large Consum and Mercadona supermarkets. Eating out in the resort must be challenging in the summer months. You really need a car to stay here, as even the closest supermarket is a mile away. We were disappointed that the boules playing area right outside the complex was so overgrown with weeds it was impossible to use. It was certainly not in the same condition as the photograph on the listing. There was no communication from the owner during our stay. In all other holiday rentals we have stayed in, we have been contacted on our second day to ask if everything was alright. We had the contact number for the caretaker but didn't use it as we didn't want another charge!

Comfy, well quipped apartment but need a car to do anything
We were given a warm welcome to Andalus Hills & shown everything to do with the apartment which a little old fashioned but was very well equipped and reasonably comfortable. The place felt very safe being behind remote controlled security gates & there was plenty of parking There is a lovely pool with grass surrounding it but so many restrictions, makes it boring for kids - no inflatables, no diving, no food around the pool etc etc. The apartment block is set up about 25 minutes walk from the Vera Playa beach (big naturist resort, including people walking along the streets naked too!!). Nothing much else going on in Vera Playa if you're looking for a choice of bars & restaurants. There is a great supermarket with the best seafood & fish counter & very inexpensive wines. To summarise, it wasn't ideal for us but if you enjoy walking or are happy to go everywhere by car, then you'll enjoy it.

Great apartment
We really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was great value and well equipped. The views were lovely from the balcony and we enjoyed breakfast and evening meals eating outside looking at the mountain views. The sunsets were fantastic over the mountains. Karen was most helpful throughout the booking process. We would recommend this apartment / location and plan to come back soon.

Dave and I live in the lovely South of England, with our adult children pinging back during Uni terms, but it does mean we can travel more as they are usually happy to house/dog sit for us. Whereas holidays used to be Spain and more Spain (just cannot get enough of the area!), we are venturing further afield in our middle age, enjoying Sri Lanka, Finland and Peru recently. We have made so many friends on Al Andalus Hills that there is always a reason to go back - especially for Dave who loves the golf!

We are both self employed. David in computers and I run a sign writing and wall art company. So taking a holiday means a drop in income. Owning our own property does allow us to take a number of breaks throughout the year at a lower outlay than booking standard holidays would.

Why they chose this property

Initially it was an investment. Somewhere that would be ours, that was good to travel to with young children. Spain ticked all the boxes in terms of journey time, accessibility, aided by the fact I speak some Spanish and have worked in the Murcia area in the past. We liked the idea of a property on a community with shared facilities (more security, less maintenance) and we were attracted to the Moorish design of the Al Andalus properties. We took the keys in May 2006, just as I was recovering from a nasty accident that would see me on crutches for the best part of 8 months. The children (then aged 11 and 9) and I moved out to Spain for the whole of the six weeks holiday, with a series of friends coming to look after me. It meant we were one of the first to move onto the complex and one of the first to get it full of fittings and turn it into the home it is today. We had six weeks to meet people and explore the area. It was the real upside of that dreadful year and there is no doubt the daily swimming was the best physio ever.

What makes this property unique

David chose our particular apartment off plan. We liked the south facing balcony and the fact we had views of the mountains and Mojacar Pueblo as well as the interior of the complex. One of the few properties to offer this and that view maintains its hold on us today.

The indoor pool offers a fantastic opportunity for those like me who feel the benefit of daily non-weight bearing exercise for rehabilitation, whatever the season.

We hope that all who visit enjoy the warm atmosphere of this still very typically Spanish area and enjoy coming back to our family apartment at the end of a lovely day.
