About the property

A town house on the main square in the heart of a typical Breton village

Breton townhouse with huge garden

This is a spacious, comfortable, traditionally-built Breton house in the centre of a pleasant village in a rural setting. It is ideal for relaxing, and as a convenient base for exploring all that Northern Brittany has to offer, beaches, harbours, castles, prehistoric sites…. It provides practical accommodation for a family holiday, but also easily accommodates a couple, or two couples holidaying together.

Particularly appealing is the huge and secluded south-facing garden which is sheltered and sunny. Immediately to the back of the house is a decked area for dining al-fresco. This overlooks a sunny lawn, with a splendid palm tree and a very large fig tree providing shade at the hottest time of day. This part of the garden is fully enclosed and suitable for small children. Go through the gate and you come into the heather garden and orchard, and wilder parts beyond. Enjoy your aperitifs here under the shade of the apple trees.

The village of Pédernec has a post office, pub, hairdresser, small supermarket, boulangerie and pharmacy. The nearest town is Bégard, 5 minutes by car, with a wider variety of shops, supermarkets and banks. Guingamp, 11 kms away, has sites of historic interest, more shops, restaurants and hypermarkets.

Pédernec has excellent access to the main road network connecting Guingamp to Lannion and the Pink Granite Coast in the north, and via the N12 to St Brieuc in the east, and to Morlaix and Brest in Finisterre in the west.

Living rooms

The front door opens into a spacious hallway, from which the staircase leads to the upper floor. To the right is the large French-style dining room, with its traditional granite fireplace. It seats 8 comfortably and opens on to the well-equipped and practical kitchen. There is a high chair.

On the other side of the cool hall is an attractive sitting room, equipped with both English and French satellite TV. There is comfortable seating for 8.

The kitchen is equipped with a modern fan oven, induction hob and cooker hood. The kitchen facilities include a microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, washing machine, drinks fridge, toaster, blender and electric kettle, plenty of crockery and cutlery, and a good variety of utensils and saucepans. The kitchen window looks out on to the garden.

There is a ground floor bedroom which can sleep three, in two bunks and a single bed. There are two large double bedrooms on the first floor. These each have a double bed and look out over the square and the lovely old church, but modern double glazing makes the house very quiet. There is a folding cot and bedding for a toddler.

Internet access

There is good internet access.

Other facilities

There is patio furniture for 8, a couple of comfy loungers, two big umbrellas and a barbecue.

The Argoat region of Brittany is a quiet rural area with unexpected treasures in the form of prehistoric remains, castles, woodland trails , secluded chapels and a rich variety of coastal destinations within 30 - 40 miuntes drive. The Pink Granite Coast and its Towns and Villages:Perros-Guirec is the highlight of Brittany’s Pink Granite Coast which stretches along the coast from Brehat past pretty sheltered bays like Plougrescant to Tregastel. Perros-Guirec itself is a haven of tree lined avenues, smart villas and beautiful beaches. But it is its location at one end of the long Sentier des Douaniers, customs officers walking route, which takes you along stunning cliff tops to the tiny resort of Ploumanac’h past the incredible water sculpted rocks for which the Pink Granite Coast is famous that makes it so popular. Seabirds glide overhead to the Sept-Iles bird sanctuary as you walk. Some huge rocks are balanced precariously on each other and eroded into strange shapes with names like ‘Napoleon’s hat’, ‘turtle’ and ‘witch’. Further west are the small villages of Tregastel and Trebeurden. Tregastel is a typical resort with rocks and sandy beaches, harbour, restaurants and creperies. Its newly renovated aquarium is located in pink granite caves with displays of English Channel flora and fauna. Nearby is the dome of the Pleumier-Bodou Telecommunications Centre. Opened in 1962, it was the first receiving station to pick up signals from the American Telstar satellite. The site is now Cosmopolis telecommunications museum with small planetarium and son et lumiere shows. The Pink Granite Coast is seen at its best in mid May when yellow gorse and lilac lavender contrast with the rose coloured boulders. Ploumanac’h’s pink granite lighthouse looks magical at sunset. Cotes D’Armor or ‘land of the sea’ on Brittany’s north coast boasts a memorable coastline. The adventurous can explore by kayak, others may wish to travel the coastal path on foot or by bicycle. The coastline stretches from the huge granite boulders eroded into fantastical shapes along the Pink Granite Coast at Perros-Guirec, to the highest cliffs in Brittany at Plouha ending finally in the serene landscapes and fine sandy beaches of the Emerald Coast. Along the way are characterful fishing ports and a bird-watchers paradise at ‘Sept Iles’. Pretty inland towns abound, a ‘must’ being the wonderful medieval river port of Dinan on the River Rance.’
